Great Sound and Features
on February 13, 2013

I have had the Elite VSX 60 for a few months now and I really like it!
It is in my bedroom and setup very easily after running the MCACC.
Because my bed is center between my front B&W 685 speakers and my Polk T15's that are my surround speakers my bed is where the MCACC reference mic needed to be.
So, I put a large piece of cardboard on my bed (about 2 feet by 2 feet) and mounted the reference mic to a short table tripod with soft form-able legs.
I started the MCACC program and left the room, so my body would not color the sound waves.
A few minutes later after the Elite VSX 60 had done it's thing and setup my bedroom I returned and disconnected the mic.
That was it.
I have a pair of B&W 685 bookshelf speakers for Front Left & Right, a Polk CS10 for Center Channel and two Polk T15's for my Surrounds that sit in my headboard.
The sound is Great and I am as I said at the beginning of this review very happy with my setup.
I did go into the Audio setup and boost the Bass to Max because I do not have a Sub-woofer in my bedroom. That gave my B&W's all that they needed for the Bass that I like.
If I did not live in a condo a Sub would be the final key for my setup, but I try and be a good neighbor. LOL!
Even without a sub when watching a movie like Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End and the Canons are blaring, my next door neighbor notices. Thankfully he's young and is cool with it.
Bottom line is that I like the Pioneers, a quality receiver in Build, Looks and most important of all, they just Sound Great!
Which is why you buy a receiver!
The Elite VSX 60 also has a great Video Processor for the V part of the A//V receiver!
I highly recommend this Pioneer Elite A/V receiver!

Big Sound for a Book-Shelf Speaker
on January 26, 2013
Posted by: BudB68742
from South Florida
I have had these for a couple of years now and I have been overjoyed at their Quality, Build & Sound!
At first I thought that the money was too much to spend for a pair of bookshelf speakers but after owning them and enjoying them as I have, I am convinced that they are worth every penny!
At first I had these in my living room but I moved them to my bedroom shortly after purchasing them.
Mainly due to size and not sound, in my bedroom I had two old school (Vintage) large square Technics SB-LX90 15" 3Way Speakers.
These Technics were just way to big in my bedroom and sat on my dresser.
I have a 7 foot tall bookcase with heavy duty slide out shelves, which is my converted Bedroom ET Center.
In the very top is my Vixio 32" HDTV and on the outside of the bookcase and beside the Vizio I mounted two shelves (depth of bookcase and 1x8 board) with L shaped brackets and put my B&W 685's on the shelves right beside the HDTV.
On the shelf below the HDTV I put a Polk CS10 Center channel speaker, which I also like very much!
Next Shelf down has a Blu-Ray player and DIRECTV DVR and then below that is my new Pioneer Elite VSX60 AV Receiver!
For Surrounds I use two Polk T15 Bookshelf speakers sitting in my headboard.
I also use the Polk T15 speakers in my living room for surrounds, I like them a lot!
I guess I had my bedroom a little loud this AM because my next door neighbor (live in Condo) wanted to know what speakers I have, because they sounded great in his apartment! LOL! He said that they must have sounded great in mine!.
He was not upset at all but serious, so I showed him.
He's checking out a purchase of the B&W 685's, so I may soon hear his room! LOL! I might have unleashed a Beast!
Suffice it to say, I like my B&W's and their setup!
If you get a chance, head to a BB Magnolia store and check them out for yourself!

Great Surround Speaker
on September 10, 2011
Posted by: BudB68742
from Rochester, NY
I first purchased the T15 a couple of years ago because they sounded really good in the BB Store and they just fit perfectly into the Headboard in my bedroom.
I connected them to a Pioneer VSX 1020K receiver for my Surrounds.
Since then I have been really happy with them, so much so, that when I recently purchased a new Pioneer Elite VSX53 receiver for my living room and needed some surrounds, it was a no Brainer, the Polk T15's!
So I have two pairs of these Speakers...Give them a listen and see what you think.
Are they as Great as my new Bowers & Wilkins' 685's, of course not, but they also do not cost over $600.00 a Pair and I am using them as Surrounds.
I would not use them for my Main L&R speakers in my living room (that's what my B&W 685's are for) but for Surrounds and possibly a Bedroom Main L&R, you could do a lot worse!
In the proper use, I really like these little Speakers!
They will take the biggest Surround Crashes, Pop's, Booms as well as subtle background nuances and just keep coming back for more!
What's great about it: The Sound
What's not so great: Nothing
I would recommend this to a friend!

Incredible value
By RReed
I've been a proud owner of 685's since the beginning of the year. I, like most non-audiophiles, wasn't familiar with B&W's line up because before now, you had to go to specialty home theater stores to purchase them. I happened to demo them almost a year ago and was blown away by the quality of sound they were putting out for the money. I was really happy to see the Bowers and Wilkins name come to a larger distribution channel like Best Buy/Magnolia because it will give this incredible British brand more reach and exposure.
These speakers have a great, smooth sound which for those more used to Klipsch will probably be a little disappointed. IMO, B&W's give a more accurate reproduction of the sound being sent to them. I'm not 100% on this, but I think that "smooth" sound is very characteristic of British brand speakers.
My set up is: Pioneer Elite VSX-32, B&W 685 (L-R), B&W HTM62 (C), Bose V100 (surr), Polk 10" sub. Pretty mismatched, but the B&W front channel speakers are stars. I removed speaker covers to show off the yellow kevlar woofer cone and "Bowers and Wilkins" name plate.
Movies sound very dynamic, detailed and move seamlessly from speaker to speaker. I'm eventually going to get a pair of 686's or 685's to replace the surrounds.
For music, I go with just a 2.0 set up to let the 685's really shine. They sound very detailed and create a wonderful sound stage-- you'd swear the other speakers were on! For a little more lower end punch when listening to a little hip-hop, r&b, or rock, I'll switch to 2.1. I wasn't real big on just sitting and listening to music, but these speakers have really made me rediscover my music collection.
Nothing to take away from the 686 or 684/683 floor standers, but the 685 is the sweet spot in the 600 series. For $650, these sound like a much more expensive set.
Don't take my word for it! The 685's won all kinds of awards when they came out a few years ago. Go to What HiFi?'s website and read for yourself. They just named the 685 home theater the best traditional home theater package (1000-1500 british pounds) for the 3rd straight year.

To complicated
By givemeabreackeh from ft. myers FL.
I have used Pioneer receivers for over 30 years. I am not tech savy enough to use the new very complicated systems. If you are not very good at following a very complicated setup I would not recommend you buying this receiver. I could not get it to do anything I wanted it to do. Such as geting speackers A & B to work at the same time so I could listen to music in the house & out in my lanai at the same time. I tried working with it for over three weeks then gave up & returned it to the store. Also they have a problem with it geting a signal for Pandora so it kept shutting off every hour or so

To Complicated....?
February 13, 2013
Hi
On page 17 of the Op Manual it shows that you would have used speaker setup "C"
Which is 7.2 Surround and Speaker "B"
This gives you 5.2 in the main room and Stereo in your other room, Speaker setting "B"
Or 7.2 in the main listening area when not using speakers "B"
You were probably looking for an A+B switch like old receivers used to do, today with Surround you would have just put the speaker selection to "B" alone and the main and B would be live, back to "A" and just the main room is live.
It is really pretty simple if you think about it.
Also one thing that throws off a lot of people off is, if you have 5.1 or 5.2 Surround, you connect your rear surround speakers to Surround Left (SL) and Surround Right (SR)
You only use Surround Back if you have a 7.1 or 7.2 speaker system.
The reason that there are so many pages to the manual is because of what these receivers are capable of!
I would rather have a piece of top notch equipment that offers so much, and I can grow into, than one that does not and I compromise my viewing and listening enjoyment due to my inadequacies or laziness to just read it!
You are using a computer and thus you have all the answers right in front of you, all you have to do is google it. They even have stuff on YouTube.
However AVS Forums is a Great place for anything electronic.
Lots of people helping people, including me.
I could have had you up and running in no time and let you see just what the Pioneer could do once it was unleashed!
You already said it sounded good, I would have told you how to make it sound Great!
Don't be so quick to give up, anything Good or Great worth having, is worth the time to see it through...in ALL of your life!
Good Luck,
Bud
