Needs better print quality

We bought this for my 86-year-old mother to use, it's simple to set up, and from which to print. I change the toner for her, and that's fairly easy to do as well. We really like the ability to return the empty cartridge to Brother with a free return label. Except for the very occasional letter, the printer is used for free crossword puzzles we find online. This is where the print quality is really lacking, on some pages it is impossible to read the numbers in the grid itself! Plus we only use the 'official' Brother toner, and get a lot fewer pages than advertised. The cartridge is not inexpensive, either. In the end, however, this is much easier for Mom to use than the inkjet I use with my computer. Just be prepared for it to cost a little more than an inkjet to run.

Buy High Yield Toner Replacements

This is the printer we purchased for my 86-year-old mother. It was so easy to set up and use that she does most of work herself for printing and maintenance. The original toner cartridge didn't last very long, but at first we thought it was only because it came with the printer. However, when we replaced it after only a couple months of light use (coupons and crossword puzzles for the most part), we only put in a regular yield cartridge. Here we are, two months later, ordering a new cartridge. This time we bought the high-yield and have our mental fingers crossed it lasts a lot longer than the other two!
Other than that we love this printer. For basic, non-professional use it's wonderful because it's so easy to use. I don't think the print quality is there for professionals, however, that may be just my opinion. I highly recommend this for light home users who don't need a fancy color printer.
