Daryl1985's Reviews

The new epic documentary The Beatles Liverpool: A Magical History Tour acts as a companion piece to such illuminating glimpses into the lives of the Fab Four as The Compleat Beatles and The Beatles: From the Beginning...to the End. But unlike those prior films, this effort approaches its subject from an unusual angle. It explores the Beatles via the famous borough of their childhoods. This program tours the Beatles' old haunts in Liverpool, including the legendary Cavern Club, the Strawberry Field orphanage, Penny Lane, and the houses in which the members of the Fab Four were raised. This five-and-a-half-hour film is jam-packed with interviews with those who knew and associated with John, Paul, George, and Ringo in the early years, such as the Mersey Beat founder, Bill Harry, initial manager Alan Williams, and their contemporary rock & roll musician Kingsize Taylor of the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany.

I bought this DVD in a boxset (Beatles in Hamburg, London, and Liverpool) thinking this would be a great video on the history of the Beatles in these cities....wow was I wrong. It's a guy with a handycam running around the street going to different venues that the Beatles performed at. Ok so the bad part is that the guy just goes off on these rediculous tangents about the history of the venue...that's about it. I learned that the hair salon that the Beatles would get their hair styled at is now a MAC donalds....whoa! mind blowing. Don't buy this if you like the beatles but if you love elderly people with mental diseases and hand held cameras this is the box set for you, buty all three and SAVE SAVE SAVE!
What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: everything
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
