First off, this movie gets a 10/10 in the WOW department, for audio and visuals. Flawless video, sound, and 3D. Don't listen to people complain about the lack of 3D. Yes the beginning and end are 2D.. but do people complain that the beginning and end of the Wizard of Oz wasn't all in color? No. The 3D portion sucks the viewer into the grid, as the main character was in the film. That moment when he enters the computer, that extra dimension pops out at you! That is movie magic (lame phrase whatever)!
I think people are too harsh on the film. It takes a few viewings (and maybe some internet research) to really understand all the workings of the plot. It does have a shiny exterior that will please most fans; but also has a really intelligent core that might pass over some peoples' heads.
There aren't many extras, something which I am willing to forgive; but would have truly enjoyed. The pacing isn't the best, and that's just a small gripe considering the spectacular action sequences scattered about.
Here's what I want to say now that I'm on my soapbox: when you watch 3D movies, you aren't going to see a soccer ball fly into your face (as the 3D demos at Best Buy would have you believe). Sure it was fun in My Bloody Valentine and Piranha 3D, but they were gimmicks. In Tron: Legacy (or many other films), there's no point to have something "fly" into your face. It's the sense of depth that really adds something to the moviegoing experience. And I think that's lost on most 3D movie-goers today.
This is coming from a cinephile and home theater aficionado. If you want to believe the 1-star reviews from the n00bs, you're going to be missing out on a stupendous 3d experience!
What's great about it: Visuals, soundtrack, action, 3D, plot
What's not so great: Pacing
I would recommend this to a friend!
