Alter Bridge is unlike any other band out there today. They have a sense of music that other musicians lack, which provides a whole different sound to their music. One Day Remains revealed what amazing musicianship they all have, and their masterpiece, Blackbird, showed the world how Alter Bridge is without a doubt one of the greatest bands to ever come around. Now, with the arrival of AB III we see how these truly remarkable musicians not only continue to create the most beautiful music around, but continue to evolve while still maintaining the sound that defines them. The intro to "Slip to the Void" utilizes a dark, keyboard sound which sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the album. Each song has that signature Alter Bridge sound, but this time around Mark Tremonti brings out even heavier, riffs, while Myles Kennedy provides some of the most beautiful melodies he's ever sung. With the addition of more backing vocals by Mark, who's voice I've always personally loved, he also gets to sing in the spotlight on "Words Darker Than Their Wings." All these little changes add an entire new texture to the songs. Brian Marshall and Scott Philips also provide a wonderful rhythm section to support Myles' vocals and Mark's superb guitar work. The entire band just continues to work so well together and their musicianship shines all throughout this album.
Overall, AB III is without a doubt the best album released in 2010, and could very well be one of the greatest albums to go down in rock history. In a time where rap, hip hop, and r&b reign supreme, hopefully this album will bring new life into rock music, and make others understand what it really means to be a rock band.
