The Best Portable, Affordable Rig

After initial setup and installing all updates, including Xbox App update for gaming, overall it took about an hour and half to get it running. The first time I booted it up, it froze mid setup and I had to turn it off and back on by holding the power button. It hasn’t done that since.

This gaming laptop features a 120hz screen, AMD Ryzen 7, 8 GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, Graphics, and 512 GB SSD storage. It’s also a nice space gray, reminiscent of the PS1.

The computer performs quite well if you know how to mess with a few in-game settings. I tested this Dell Gaming Laptop with one of my favorite games, Control. This game was purchased from the EGS and I’ve been wanting to try it with Ray Tracing on. I set the quality preset settings to high, Ray Tracing to high, and turned on NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). The latter allows for Ray Tracing at high or ultra settings without adding too much strain on your computer and making the game playable. I’ve included some screenshots of Control with and without Ray Tracing for comparison. You could hear the computer fans running but not as distracting once I started playing my game.

The speakers are surprisingly loud for a gaming laptop, though I’ll still play with my headphones. There are the expected ports such as an HDMI port, and USB-3 Port, a USB-C port, and most importantly, an ethernet port. It is also a full keyboard, meaning that you have a number keypad which comes in handy if you plan on using this as your streaming machine as well and need to adjust various numbers.

This is an excellent solution for the traveling gamer looking to game on the go at 120 of 60 FPS games. Pair it with an Xbox controller and some wireless (or wired) headphones, and you will be glad you invested in this machine.

High Upfront Cost, Savings In the Long Run

The process for setting up the printer takes around 15 minutes. It’s quick to fill each ink tank with ink. However, there is an ink process that takes 11 minutes alone. The good thing is that, while that is happening, you can use the app to do other things you need to make the printer functional, like connect it to your WiFi setup.

The Epson 2800 can print around 10 pages of black and white or 5 colored pages per minute. One color picture took around 4 minutes on an 8 ½ by 11 inch ultra premium glossy paper. The photo image came out pretty close to the picture I sent from my phone.
As far as printing documents on regular paper, the printer is top notch in the quality department. I was able to get 10 pages of black and white and 5 pages of colored paper within a minute's time. Scanning worked great too and I was able to send the image to my computer. I recommend you download the Epson suite for the printer to give you these advanced features. Other than that, this printer doesn’t have many bells and whistles but it will save you on buying ink, as a pack of colored ink bottles comes out to around 45 bucks and the black ink bottle comes out to 20 dollars. The ink is to last you for 2 years and can be refilled before the entire ink tank is consumed, so you can always have backup ink saved when you need it most.

Essentially, what ends up happening is that you are paying a higher price upfront for the printer but end up saving in the long run if you keep the printer long enough. Think back to your last printer. If you had that for more than 2 years, then this would be a good investment for you. In my experience, though I do have printers at home that have lasted more than 2 years, I don’t think I’ve consumed 2 years worth of ink from them. The higher upfront cost doesn’t justify the savings that this printer will bring.

I tested this blender by making my favorite smoothie: bananas, milk, and strawberries with some crushed ice. After I put the blender together, I wanted to test the to-go cup. I have previously owned other blenders specifically made for only to-go cups, so I wanted to see how this one measured up. I dropped in half a banana, soy milk, ice, strawberries, and some sweetener. With the touch of the smoothie button, it started doing it’s thing and in about 1 minute, I had a delicious strawberry-banana smoothie. My ice was crushed well enough and there were no chunky bits of any of the fruit. Overall, a good experience for smoothies.

The MSI Gaming laptop arrived in a no-frills box with just the minimum to protect the computer. Documentation was minimal and all that was in the box was the charging cable and the laptop itself. I immediately started charging the laptop. Initial setup took 5 minutes but downloading all the software and updates for gaming took a couple of hours.

This is a beast of a portable machine. It is a huge upgrade from my previous desktop that housed 2 Radeon’s RX480s. With this laptop, I was able to play most games I tried at high settings and a few in ultra settings. Games like Doom Eternal run at a full 60 FPS on high settings without any hiccups or frame drops. A Dark Souls like game called Mortal Shell looked incredible on Ultra and I was able to see detail I’ve never seen before. Games that are less graphic intensive are extremely beautiful to look at with the 240 hz running on ultra at their fullest potential. An example of this would be Phsyconauts 2.

A software feature that I think many streaming gamers will enjoy is the autodetection of your microphone / headphone connections. Upon plugging in said devices, a software called Nahimic opens up and with a few prompts, customizes your equipment for their best use with your intended purpose. For instance, when I stream my video games through Facebook Gaming or YouTube, I put on certain filters, like a suppressor and gain adjustments, so that my background noise isn’t heard. This software takes care of that automatically.
Battery wise, this laptop lasts if you’re just doing office-related things, but when you’re gaming, you want it plugged in for long sessions.
Speaking of office-related work, I used the laptop to teach my coding students via Zoom as well as to create lesson plans. I didn’t like the work-experience because of the lack of a number pad and an ethernet port. Because it is Wi-Fi 6E enabled, I didn’t mind gaming only with my Wi-Fi 6E router.

The Jabra Elite 3 features a noise-isolating design, HearThrough sound (ambient noise allowed), single-button controls on both sides of the earbuds, mono mode (use one earbud without using the other), and an app to change preset equalized sound. They have an IP55 index (rain and sweat proof).

Though presets are nice, I couldn’t find a place in the app to fully customize my sound outside of the presets. They will satisfy most users, though. When playing music of various genres and podcasts, the earbuds performed well. Your experience on the music you hear is based on the preset that you select. When playing music with lots of bass, the bass boost made the sound feel much fuller. Songs that I preferred hearing the lyrics and voice to did well with the treble boost. Overall, I am satisfied with the performance of Jabra Elite 3.

These are a great pair of earbuds with more features than most at a similar price range, but a few tweaks could have made these earbuds a slightly better experience. For one, it would be nice to have the earbuds tell you if HearThrough is on or off. All you get when you press the button is a beep. When you’re first getting used to them, you might not know if you turned it on or off.

Next, if the app allowed for full customization of sound, that would have been a greater user experience. Additionally, the presets can only be chosen through the app and not through the earbud buttons. This means that if you are changing between various types of genres or going from music to podcasts, you have to also open the Jabra App to change the preset.
Lastly, the box says that these have a noise-isolating design. This is true, the design makes for less noise to come in through your ears. However, this is not an active noise canceling feature. This could be misleading to unaware buyers, so I felt it important to mention the distinction.
What is great, though, is that you can charge the earbuds for 10 minutes in the charging case and get a full hour’s use out of them. The HearThrough sound works great and allows you to hear people that may be talking to you without having to remove them. The charge on the earbuds are up to 7 hours with an additional 28 hours of use when you keep recharging them in the case.

You can’t go wrong with the Jabra Elite 3 if you aren’t looking for earbuds with active noise canceling. The sound quality is great and you can use them for a long time without having to recharge them. I used them while practicing dancing and they didn’t fall out of my ears. I recommend these to active users or for daily commutes.

Streaming Camera at its Best!

The camera already comes attached to its own laptop/monitor stand. It can be unscrewed to be used with a tripod if preferred. Simply attach the USB-C cable to the camera and the USB-3 end to your computer and you’re good to go. No software is required for use, but it is recommended for customization.

When it comes to gaming and streaming, Elgato brand has always stood above the rest. Naturally, when this camera became available, I needed to try it out. This camera is an improvement over my previous streaming camera. I tested both cameras side by side using Streamlabs OBS (SLOBS). Without making any changes in the settings, the Elgato camera showed me an image that I preferred vs. my previous streaming camera. Colors look natural, and there is a clear difference in the shades of black. For example, with my previous camera, my beard looks all black, whereas with the Elgato camera, you can clearly see that I do have gray hair.

Colors look natural, and there is a clear difference in the shades of black. For example, with my previous camera, my beard looks all black, whereas with the Elgato camera, you can clearly see that I do have gray hair.
When playing in the dark, the Elgato camera can pick up more light from the room making my face look a bit more clear. This is perfect for scary games where my viewers expect me to be playing with the lights off while still being able to see my face reactions during frightening events.
Enough can’t be said for having a 60 FPS facecam. Similar results can be achieved with more expensive cameras, but for the price that Elgato comes at, this is just right for gaming. Your video game already offers you a smooth experience (if you’re gaming at 60 FPS+), so why shouldn’t your facecam do so as well.

This facecam is definitely bigger than I expected, but to me, that isn’t a big deal because I use my facecams on tripods. I set it up on my steaming laptop to test it out, though, and it didn’t get in the way of my gaming. I like the detachable cable, as it makes storing much easier.

Though the camera is plug and play, I recommend you download the Elgato Facecam drivers and software for more customization. Out of the box without downloading software, I was able to use it with SLOBS without any issues. It also works when streaming to YouTube, Facebook, and Zoom (I didn’t test Twitch). When I used it in Zoom for a work meeting, my co-workers made a point to ask me what I was using for a camera because they could tell the difference in quality vs. what they were using. I also didn’t look like I was in the witness protection program.
One thing I feel would improve this camera is the privacy lid. This is probably my 7th streaming camera and all of those except for one had privacy lids that attached to the camera itself. This is important because most gamer desk areas are cluttered with controllers, cables, and other peripherals. Having the lid be removable without a way to hang or clip to the camera itself will make it easier to get misplaced.

I also connected this monitor to my Xbox Series X. Though it is only a 1080P monitor, older Xbox One X games that have received an FPS boost showcase really well on this screen. Some things I feel this monitor would benefit from is a display port or a second HDMI port. Most gamers I know have their gaming PC and at least one console. Though there is a VGA port, that’s not something gamers use. Another thing I’d like to see is the ability to tilt the monitor, even if it is just a small up and down adjustment.

As with any phone mount, my expectation was that I’d have to remove my phone case to fit my iPhone 12 Pro Max. In this case, I didn’t have to do that, but it was a snug fit that I wouldn’t recommend if you don’t feel comfortable doing so, but it works in my recording environment because I have carpeted floors. The light clips on to the top of the stand and stays on securely. You can rotate the light and use the ball joint to aim it as you please. I was able to take pictures of a collector item keeping it well lit. For this part, I did have to adjust the phone holder at a forced angle because the stand itself gets in the way. It would have been better if the phone holder arm could extend further with an adjustable arm.

It is a much better use for stories, which I have been recording around my city recently. My prior setup included a full-sized tripod for just my phone and no lighting. Now, I can use The Achiever to achieve (no pun intended) a more well lit recording. To store it in my travel backpack, I can just unscrew the base and store it vertically along with the rest of the stand. The base itself is weighted, which helps when recording outside in case there is wind or someone accidentally hits it. This is why it matters to me that I can still use it with my phone case.
Additionally, the included phone clip for the LED light was very thoughtful, as sometimes, I can’t/don’t want to take out all my equipment for a quick one-off photo or video. By clipping the LED light, I can still capture what I want with better lighting than just the phone’s light.

Another great and undersold feature of this device is that, once formatted for Xbox, you can use it on any Xbox that you encounter. As a recent example, my friends invited us to game night at his house. He has an Xbox but doesn’t own the games I do, like all 7 Jack Box Party Pack games. Instead of carrying my Xbox or redownloading all 7 games to his, I just took the WD SSD and plugged it in his Xbox. We were ready to play faster than having to download the games. Essentially, this is now my travel companion for game nights.

Destiny is the only console game that has held its replay-ability over the last two year AND STILL going strong. Destiny is the flagship games for consoles. It is by far, a MUST HAVE for ANY console player. I'm fixing to buy this as a gift and a few more for starting friends. The game is honestly the best game to come home to every night.
There is so much to do in Destiny, it'll seem overwhelming at first. The economy is booming, so many quests, loot, strikes, raids, bosses, prisons, etc. Bungie is an amazing developing company that is community focused and dedicated to amaze the players. The YouTube and Twitch community is outstanding and never ceases to amaze me. Recently, the Destiny community raised over $500k to St. Judes hospital. The game is thriving like never before. Make memories, make friends, have fun.

Hi there. I am a teacher as well. This would allow your students to hear you but you wouldn't be able to hear them. For that scenario, I used the Anker Power conference instead. I had to teach in-person students and virtual students at the same time. The Anker allowed me to speak freely into it's embedded mic and I could hear students from the speaker as well.

I understand that this wouldn’t automatically amplify someone’s voice, but if it is connected to a computer, can the audio be heard through speakers when connected through audio software?
Yes. Using the USB 3.0 receiver and the included extension cable, I was able to use it with Streamlabs OBS and add filters. This allows me to use the mic when streaming content, in Zoom, or even project the voice through speakers that the computer might be paired with.

Do these headphones have a mute button and how long is the battery life if using for office calls?
No mute button, but 22 hour battery life. Great for listening to calls without hearing surrounding noise.

Does this come with the spinning sweeper for mopping the floor? On the samsung website it states the sweeper only comes with VS90, but I don't see that as one of the listed items included. If it doesn't come with it, what is the use of "wet" function?
It doesn't come with the sweeper for floors. I was disappointed when I didn't find one. You have to purchase that separately.
