A truly great classic that has never been topped by later versions. Warner Brothers certainly knew what it was doing with superb workmanship, use of color, music and spectacle. The story line and dialogue are easy to follow and straight-forward, exciting, and the whole thing is great fun. Errol Flynn was born to play Robin Hood. The movie demonstrates that by 1938 Hollywood had developed production values that quite honestly has never gotten any better. The WB Blu-ray transfer is superb--like it was filmed yesterday with super-clear color and definition. In earlier transfers you could sometimes see the beautiful velvet finishes on the clothes. In the new version you can actually see the weave. It's amazing that early techinicolor photography could be so clear and beautiful. The soundtrack has been significantly improved allowing many individual instruments (buried in past versions) to be heard clearly and with varying dynamics. Treat yourself to this joyous film--a film for everyone.
What's great about it: A true classic. A movie you can see over and over again that never gets tiriing. Great color, spectacle, and acting.
