Purchased open box-excellent at an incredible value. The default 1TB HDD is horrifically slow so I used the savings to purchase an SSD. The system comes with a total of 6GB of DDR4 RAM (4GB of on board + 2GB SODIMM). I swapped out the 2GB memory for a single 16GB DDR4 SODIMM for a max of 20GB of Ram. As for the cons, the trackpad can be a bit finicky at times, but it is not a deal breaker. Additionally, the power button placement is really annoying. I kept accidentally hitting the button causing the laptop to go to sleep. However, this problem can be easily resolved by going into the power management settings of Windows 10 and changing the setting of the power button to "do nothing".

The ASUS laptop has been a disappointment to me. The fingerprint recognition works about 40% of the time after multiple attempts. The on/off button is located in a poor location making it easy to inadvertently turn off the computer. It has been inconsistent in performance. Overall I would NOT recommend the purchase of this computer.

The inconsistent performance is primarily due to the slow mechanical hard drive, but it is a night and day difference when swapped with an SSD. Additionally, the system comes with 4GB of on board DDR4 ram with a single slot occupied by a 2GB DDR4 SODIMM. The slot takes up to a 16GB DDR4 SODIMM for a maximum of 20GB of ram. I agree that the on/off button is in a poor location, but this can be easily remedied by changing the button behavior within Window 10's power & sleep menu. You can set the button to "Do nothing" when pressed to avoid accidentally turning off the machine or putting it the sleep. I also agree that the fingerprint recognition can be a bit erratic but I added multiple fingerprints of the same finger to help. Overall, the cost/benefit factor of this machine (including the cost of ram/ssd) outweighs some of its short comings. It has a 7th gen i5 and the display is really nice. Although the specs don't indicate it is an IPS display, I believe it is. Viewing angles are great and the LCD part number indicates it is an IPS display.
