A Must Buy For Basie Fans
on January 6, 2010

Vanguard was late in the stereo market by a few years, but their sound quality was always audiophile of the era. This recording is made live and therefore, transforms you back to 1956. I really sounds like clubs I've been in, but never Basie's own. Too much of the recording is of organ and does remind me of when I was a kid, late night, in various lounges. There was always somebody entertaining the drinkers at the organ. However, we get to hear the various banter in and about the audience, and the songs of Joe Williams.
What's great about it: Joe Williams
What's not so great: It's in Mono
I would recommend this to a friend!
