Kraftwerk's music is deceptive: electronic grooves with simple melodies. Some are danceable, some are ominous but almost all seem to suggest a classically European sound despite this futuristic simplicity. Cold, emotionless and electronic but yet relaxing. Probably not for everyone but I would recommend this to someone who would appreciate this...get your robot on.
Asia returns with a second album of melodic rock...great songs full of soaring, symphonic melodies. The major difference from the first album is that the sound has softened quite a bit with the vocals and keyboards playing a larger role...usually at the expense of the guitar. Despite this change the musicianship is top notch and the songs still have progressive flourishes...if somewhat more discreet and controlled.
This is a decent overview of Winger's material. The songs run in reverse chronological order with the oldest material near the end. The killer songs are from the first album and are the strength of this compilation with the balance of the songs ranging from good to average. Note: these guys can play so there are occassional 'progressive' moments but they are few and far between.
Before cable and MTV, this was one of the few shows dedicated to Pop/Rock music on television and you had to wait 'til 1:00 a.m. to boot! Singer/songwriters, soul/R&B, rock and pop, most songs were played live on stage, (not videos or lip-synced) it was amazing! A great historical record, I loved seeing these again after so many decades. Will there be a volume 2?
This is a six-part documentary that covers the major areas of modern comedy. It starts with the early practitioners and trailblazers on through to the major comedians. Obviously, it's much to short and can't possibly cover everything but it's incredibly fascinating (educational?) and only leaves you wanting more...much more. If you love comedy and want to see how it got to where it is, this is for you.
Out with Ronnie James Dio...in with Graham Bonnet, another powerful singer. The band moves toward a more commercial sound but still retains its 'classical/progressive' elements. A solid effort well worth the listen.

'Live Over Europe' showcases the talents of a fine group of veteran musicians getting together and rocking out on stage. Powerful vocals soar over solid grooves and riffs. My ears pick up a bit more Led Zeppelin than Deep Purple in these songs but, while they don't quite reach those lofty heights, it's still high-quality stuff. Turn it up and enjoy!
What we have here is a collection of two excellent albums ('Michael Schenker Group' & 'MSG'), one very good album ('Assault Attack'), a whole bunch of live material ('Live at Manchester Apollo', 'One Night at Budokan' & 'Rock Will Never Die') ranging from good to snarling and...sigh...an album which is uneven at best ('Built to Destroy'). Along with some additional bonus tracks, it is a fine place to introduce someone to one of the best hard rock guitarists ever. I would have given this an 'Excellent' rating if not for 'Built to Destroy'.
How do they keep doing it? Straight-ahead, deceptively simple riffs build solid, rock-hard songs. Great rhythm section with tasty solos and solid vocals...you know what you're getting and, yet, are rarely disappointed. Gets your toe tapping and your head bobbing...mostly killer, rarely filler. While not their best, these rock'n'roll alchemists serve up another solid effort that sounds great. Play it loud...then play it again!
