Easily 2016's Best Dollar to Performance TV So Far
on July 14, 2016

After seeing the success the 2015 M series had, and the glowing reviews the 2016 P series received, I was anxiously awaiting the release of the 2016 M which I thought would perfectly fit my budget and needs. I was 100% correct. This TV absolutely blew me away the instant I turned it on!
Out of the box, the settings were dialed in pretty well. I started with the "Calibrated" preset and made some adjustments from there. I prefer a cooler and brighter picture overall while the calibrated settings preferred a warmer more cinematic feel. Once i was done with the calibration, the performance was great. Inky blacks and vivid, popping colors. Uniformity would be my one and only complaint. Because of the nature of the full array backlighting, there are certain scene conditions where you will notice darker corners or a blooming effect around bright objects. You have to STARING at these trouble spots to notice it at all, and even then its very subtle and not enough for me to reduce my rating, especially considering the price and performance of this tv.
The 4K and HDR content looks great, obviously, but I was really impressed with the scaling engine in this thing. I play a lot of video games, and they looked incredible. The input lag is also really low, even without the Game mode enabled. My old TV, I had to go through the menu system every time I wanted to switch game mode on and off. For this TV, its one of the first settings you see when you open up the options. You honestly wont even need to use it though in my opinion unless you are an MLG level Call of Duty player, which, if thats the case, you are using a dedicated gaming monitor for that anyway most likely.
I have noticed a lot of the complaints about this tv revolve around the included tablet and the difficulty of using the built in chromecast. For me, this wasnt an issue. The tablet paired easily and there is even an app on iTunes and Google Play that will allow you to control and cast everything from your phone just as easily. That's the method we prefer and it has worked great so far. If you know how to use a smartphone, you will not have any difficulty using this TV. There is also a small remote that will let you turn the TV on/off, change inputs, change volume, change picture presets, and pause/play videos being cast. It works great when you need to pause something or turn the tv off quickly and dont want to unlock your phone/tablet to do so.
Overall, this is the best TV I have ever owned. We upgraded from a 2012 Samsung LED (UN55ES8000) and this TV makes that one look like a $400 Hisense. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Hisense

Yes, sorry for the comparison. I've honestly never owned or tested a Hisense TV, it was just the first one that came to mind while writing the review and I made a snap judgement based on the prices I've seen them for and just assumed their price represented their quality. Sorry again for the bad comparison!
