Dead Silence, A Terrifying Horror Story
on September 26, 2009
Posted by: ATLFAN
The creators of the controversial blockbuster "Saw" have brought us a modern masterpiece of gothic horror. In the tradition of "Darkness Falls" and "The Ring," another urban legend has been given the big screen treatment. "Dead Silence" involves an elderly, childless ventriloquist named Mary Shaw who is accused of causing the disappearance of a boy from a wealthy family. The townsmen cut out her tongue and murder her. She is buried along with her massive collection of ventriloquist dummies. Soon after, entire families are found murdered with their tongues ripped out. Legend has it that if you see her ghost and scream, you will have your tongue ripped out.
Great performances, a creepy atmosphere of decay and desolation, and a good musical score make "Dead Silence" a must see for fans of gothic horror. I promise that you will never be able to look again at a ventriloquist dummy without shivering.

TNA Women's Knockout Championship Match: Tara (Champion) (with Poison) vs. Angelina Love (with The Beautiful People)
On Impact!, Tara managed to win the title from Angelina Love with the help of her new tarantula named Poison, and here's the rematch. At Slammiversary, these two put on a pretty bad match, but this was a HUGE improvement. There was nice, fast-paced action, and they actually put on a good match. Tara hit her standing moonsault and also brawled on the outside with The Beautiful People. The ending came after Tara hit the Widow's Peak, only to have the referee being distracted by The Beautiful People, who accidentally sprayed Angelina in the face with hairspray. The end came after Angelina pinned Tara and the ref made the three count, despite the fact that Tara's foot was on the bottom rope! After the match, Tara beat up on Angelina and super kicked the referee. Following this, she took Poison out and let him crawl on the ref. Eek. Winner: Angelina Love. Match Rating: 4/5
Daniels vs. Matt Morgan
this match was pretty disappointing. Daniels did all he could to make it interesting, but the "power" game that Morgan played throughout the match was lame and overused. Basically, Daniels tried to mount offense on Morgan repeatedly throughout the match, hitting a nice split-legged moonsault to the outside that was the highlight, but when Daniels tried to hit a flying crossbody to the outside, he landed funky on his foot. And thus, the power game continued, with Morgan simply beating up on Daniels, throwing him against the barricade and stuff like that, and even going as far as to toy with him. When Morgan was going to go for his finisher, he simply dropped Daniels on the ground and toyed with him some more. of course, Daniels managed to get Morgan down and was about to go for the Best Moonsault Ever, only to have his leg go out on him. Morgan hit his finisher and pinned Daniels. Lame match, and Matt Morgan really isn't that good for a wrestler. Winner: Matt Morgan. Match Rating: 3/5
No Disqualification Match: Abyss vs. Dr. Stevie - Before I get started, anyone who's a fan of the Star Wars movie "Empire Strikes Back," you'll get a chuckle out of Dr. Stevie & Daffney in the pre-match interview. However this was a match that was more about putting over a storyline than anything else as this was a heavily one-sided slow paced brawl dominated by Abyss that did the usual formula of fighting around the Impact Zone. This was about Abyss getting his revenge on Stevie more than anything else.
I.W.G.P. Tag Team Champions Team 3D vs. British Invasion - This was your usual performance that you get from Team 3D matches that was filled with the same usual entertaining spots (with Ray even putting his own "british" twist on his bionic elbow) while the British Invasion were able to hold their own in the ring here eventhough they botched a few spots.
Jenna Morasca vs. Sharmell - Jenna had bought the services of Awesome Kong while Sojo Bolt was appearently friends with Sharmell & in her corner. All I could say here was that maybe TNA saw the "Hog Pen" match at WWE Extreme Rules & thought "maybe we can top that" because this was horrible with the only thing noteworthy was Jenna's outfit & her "Melina-like entrance" while moving like a stripper ontop of Sharmell while getting the pin. Aside from that & Sojo Bolt doing a crash & burn on the floor towards the end, this was dull to the point where what Awesome Kong did afterwards was the best part of this "match".
TNA Legends Champion A.J. Styles vs. Kevin Nash - This was the "David vs. Goliath" formula you would expect from these two with Nash using his power while A.J. relied on his speed. I'll give A.J. huge credit here in that he used the old "Bret Hart" formula in that he heavily tried to ground Nash by working on his legs right from the start and even using various submission moves such as a leglock at one point but Nash pulled the "sterotypical Cena" performance as he was dominated throughout the match only to hit two moves & won the match. This was about as good as it could have been since A.J. had to try to work around Kevin Nash's limited performance but the finish heavily hurt the match eventhough the story being told was that A.J. didn't get beat...he got caught.
TNA Tag Team Champions Beer Money vs. Booker T & Scott Steiner - In a nutshell, this match was no different than the rest on this card as this match never got out of first gear & cut short before it ever had the chance to pick up. Beer Money tried & put in a good effort but when Booker & Steiner's offense everytime they were in control just really slowed the match down. The ending was botched between James Storm & Earl Hebner but nothing else to say here past this was about continuing the theme of the night which was Main Event Mafia tag team domination.
, another average match and a disappointing match considering these two are a couple of the greatest wrestlers of all time. The match started with some brawling as Joe took some Sick!!, head shots into the concrete and stuff, which was pretty impressive, but when the action returned to the ring, everything dissolved into being an average match. We didn't see anything new, but the match was still solid. Sting locked in the Scorpion Deathlock at one point right in the middle of the ring, but then Tazz came out to the ring, which made Sting let go of the hold for some stupid reason. Joe then mounted a comeback, locked in the Coquina Clutch, and then Sting...TAPPED!!! I didn't expect the ending, but the match was still average throughout. Not pay-per-view material, and these two can do much, much better. Winner: Samoa Joe. Match Rating: 3/5
TNA Champion Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley - It should be noted that this was the first one on one meeting between these two & Kurt was going into this match with a legit groin injury which saw him not go as "all out" & intense as Kurt usually does and you saw him heavily favor it as one point after missing a moonsault. I'll give credit here in that Mick gave the best inring "wrestling" performance he's had up to this point in TNA with using various moves like a bodysissors/mandible claw combination. This was a solid bout but again, nothing really memorable.
This is a HUGE step down from Slammiversary 2009. There was no X-Division Match to be seen, and the focus on the Main Event Mafia was disappointing. Immediately after Kevin Nash won the TNA Legends Championship from AJ Styles, we all knew how the rest of the night would play out. The main event delivered, but for the most part, the performances were average, with the Sharmell/Morasca match being one of the worst matches I have ever seen.

One of the best Wrestling PPV's of the year

WWE, Night of champions last night was really up and down and had a mix of good and bad matches, even a contriversal ending to a match. The crowd was very quiet most of the night. Thanks for reading!
WWE Unified Tag Team Championships
Chris Jericho and a mystery partner vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase
To start the match jericho announced his mystery partner, the big show? What a dissapointment! Besides that, the match was actually kind of average. The crowd actually pulled out some cheers for jericho. Legacy really double teamed Y2J alot in this one. In the end jericho made the hot tag to big show and he cleared house. Jericho got the codebreaker on dibiase and show locked in the collosal cluth on ted for the win. Match Rating:2.5/5
During this time cm punk cut a pretty interesting promo.
ECW Championship
Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian
I expected this to be a good, solid match and it did not dissapoint. Some back and fourth action and even some nice counters. The ending also showed the cool counters in this match. Christian went for the killswitch, which dreamer tried to reverse in to a ddt, which christian then reversed into the killswitch, which connected this time and christian got the pin to become a two time ecw champion. Nice sportsmanship after the match between christian and dreamer. Match Rating:3.5/5
6-Pack Challange for the U.S. Championship
Kofi Kingston vs. MVP vs. Primo vs. Carlito vs. Jack Swagger vs. The Miz
Primo was a replacement for the big show. This match was really all over the place and clustered, but it wasn't that bad of a match. Lots of highflying moves here. Everyone was going for the pins at the same time. Kofi shockingly won the match with a trouble in paradse kick on carlito. Match Rating:3.5/5
Women's Championship
Michelle McCool vs. Melina
This was a improvement from the bash, and this time it was actually watchable. Nice moments in the match, like with mccool doing a ddt to melina off the gaurd rail. McCool retained the belt in the end with a roll up. o.k. match, but still not that good. Match Rating:2.5/5
A rematch from WrestleMania XXIV? , I wasn't really that excited about this match, but in the end, I was blown away. This match completely trumps WrestleMania XXIV in every single way. There were a ton of awesome spots, like Cena inadvertently hitting a flying shoulder block off the apron onto Triple H on the outside, and Orton playing his part MASTERFULLY as the bad guy. Everyone hit their signature moves, and Cena botched a flying fameasser from the top rope onto Triple H plus a bulldog onto Randy Orton, and the crowd got totally against them! They played on this perfectly throughout the rest of the match as well. Triple H got locked into the STF multiple times, but he managed to break out of the hold before tapping during these occasions. Triple H hit the Pedigree on John Cena, but neither Orton nor Cena hit their finishing maneuver at that point in the match. One particularly awesome spot occured when Cena went for the Five-Knuckle Shuffle for the second time in the match, only to have Triple H pull the ropes down and cause Cena to fall to the outside! Orton ended up getting put into a Sharpshooter (you're not reading that wrong) from Triple H while Cena simultaneously applied a Crossface! Orton tapped out, but the ref didn't know who to give the win to! Legacy then ran out and attacked Triple H and Cena. DiBiase and Triple H brawled on the outside while Rhodes beat up on Cena. That was until Cena got Rhodes up for the FU, but Orton hit the RKO on Cena, with Rhodes ON his shoulders, to secure the victory and retain the title yet again!!! Winner: Randy Orton. Match Rating: 5/5
Diva's Championship
Why is this after the wwe title match, i don't know! I didn't really care for this match and it was really a dissapointment. Mccool vs. melina was better. The match only had a couple of good spots. Mickie James got the win with her ddt. James is now the second diva ever to win the women's and diva's championship. Match Rating:2/5
Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler
I knew this wasn't going to be like jericho vs. mysterio, but this was actually pretty good. Lots of highflying spots by rey in this one. Ziggler did botch some moves in this match though. Mysterio pulled of a leg drop from the apron on ziggler and ziggler even locked in some submissions like a chin lock and a full nelson. Rey mysterio retained the ic belt with a 619 and a splash. Match Rating:3.5/5
World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy
This was a really good match and a step up from thier bash encounter. Punk and hardy can really pull out the best in each other. To start the match punk went for the g.t.s but did not connect. Hardy got the cross body on punk soon after. Hardy went for an outside dive, but punk moved and hardy didn't get back in the ring until a 9 count. Later in the match hardy got the twist of fate on punk but missed the swanton. The crowd actually came alive here! Punk got the g.t.s, but hardy kicked out! Punk tried to walk out of the match, but hardy pulled him back in. Hardy then got the twist of fate on punk, followed by the swanton bomb. Hardy got the pin and became the new world heavyweight champion. YES! Good encounter here. Match Rating:4.2
This show BLEW ME AWAY. Almost every match on the card was 5/5 material. There was only one bad match, though the last two matches of the night didn't compare to the earlier parts of the card. Night of Champions 2009 has broken WWE's this season and WWE finally has a pay-per-view this year that's TRULY worth seeing.

Enjoyable Wrestling PPV

WWE Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio Vs. Dolph Ziggler - This match is almost an exact replica of Mysterio's & Ziggler's clash at Night Of Champions only the difference this time is that the match went at a faster pace, Dolph Ziggler wrestled a more steady match in contrast to before, & the fans were much more into the match as well in oppose to last month at Night Of Champions. A strong showing from both competitors to point where the fans were starting up "LET'S GO ZIGGLER" chants. This was a fantastic opening contest & a great match to display the prestige of the I-C Championship. 4/5
M.V.P. Vs. Jack Swagger - Like everyone else, I felt this match had potential but partially fail to capitalize on it. A couple of nice spots in the match but nothing special or past average. A good match if was on RAW but only decent here at SummerSlam. 3/5
Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & The Big Show Vs. Cryme Tyme - It took a little while but I think this Tag Team Title Match turned into something good & worth viewing. The crowd got into the match as it progressed & the ending was a nice finish to the match. Not a whole bunch to complain about as I think all four men put in a good effort & tried their best to put on a good tag team title match. 3.25/5
Kane Vs. The Great Khali - I don't know if it's just me in this category or what but I actually felt this was an improvement to their godawful WrestleMania 23 battle. I think the Great Khali did his best in trying to "wrestle" and Kane did everything he could but there just isn't much anyone could do to have a seemingly good match with Khali. In my opinion, this match is an improvement to their WM 23 encounter but is still a pretty poor match. 1.75/5
DX Vs. Legacy - This was a great comeback match for DX & this was a huge step forward for Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase as they delivered probably their best match thus far in their short careers. DX's entrance symbalized that DX were about to go to war & thats exactly what this match was. The two youngsters, DiBiase & Rhodes, did one amazing job holding their own against the two future Hall Of Famers in Triple H & Shawn Michaels. Do not expect the comedic performance we got from DX in 2006 against the Spirit Squad & the McMahons as DX gave a lot of credibility to DiBiase & Rhodes. This tag team match had solid in-ring work and DX along with Rhodes & DiBiase gave a strong peformance & argubably put on the best tag team match for the WWE in a very long time. Great match and possibably the match of the night. 4.5/5
ECW Champion Christian Vs. William Regal - For the second year in a row, we get a squash ECW Title match. As soon as the bell rings, Christian hits the Kill Switch on Regal and gets the win. Afterwards, Christian gets maulled by Regal's court, Vladimir Kozlov & Ezkiel Jackson. Christian & Regal definitely deserved better then this.
WWE Champion Randy Orton Vs. John Cena - I'll go on record & say if you can get passed all of the chaos & madness this match had in the end, this is argubably the best one-on-one Cena/Orton match. Randy Orton was playing his "Viper" character fantastically to the bone with John Cena stepping up his game & gave us his best performance since his Backlash match against Edge earlier in the year. All the way until the craziness & false finishes began, this match was turning into a great WWE Title Match as Orton & Cena both were putting on a very good back & forth contest. I think the false finishes at the end was a nice touch as it added more unpredictibility to the match. In the end however, Orton gets the true finish & the win to the fan's delight. 4/5
World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy Vs. C.M. Punk (Tables, Ladders, & Chairs Match) - I applaud Hardy & C.M. Punk going out there and putting their bodies on the line but at the same time I didn't see this match reaching the bar like past TLC matches has proceeded to do (especially the Tag Team versions). But like twice before and for a third time here, Hardy & Punk delivered an outstanding World Title Match nevertheless. I give credit to Hardy & Punk also for going out there and telling a great story instead of going out there and being spot monkies for each other. This TLC match was phenomenal for what it was and it did not disappoint whatsoever as it has holds a couple of breath taking spots of it's own. In the end though where one great rivalry ended, another one began in the return of the Undertaker. Great match all the way & one of the best of the night. 4.5/5
Over the years, SummerSlam has lost some it's "heat" but this SummerSlam event is an quite enjoyable one. With a few bad booking decisions, I still recommend this event. The DX/Legacy & Punk/Hardy are definitely the matches of the night with the Orton/Cena & Mysterio/Ziggler matches delivering as well. Overall, I felt this was a nice SummerSlam event & is something I recommend checking out.

Poltergeist is a classic treat
on September 24, 2009
Posted by: ATLFAN
Here we have one of the scariest films of the 80's - a classic. Who can forget "Carrie Anne, Don't go into the light!!" Films of this age are hit and miss with blu ray transfers. Sometimes the quality is subpar and sometimes the film is so dated however good the transfer it lacks any true oomph. Luckily neither of these two things happen here.
The blu ray transfer shines. Colors are crisp and there is no grain visible from age. One might think that the type of visual effects used this long ago might not transfer well but they certainly do. They pop. Added to this brilliant picture is audio that keeps the tension mounting and will have you jumping at every scare. Dialogue is strong and audio effects utilize all speakers to their max.
It is great to see that such a classic film has not aged and is just as effective today. This blu ray disc also comes in a special hardcover case that has a great booklet about the film. For those who remember the film definitely purchase it on blu ray in its new glory. Those who have never seen it will get a definite treat.
