I highly recommend the new Jesse Johnson cd

I have been waiting years for the next Jesse Johnson album to appear. I was surprised that this was going to be a 2-cd set. I paid 14.99 for this set and it was worth every bit. Actually it was a bargain. Verbal Penetration or Verbal Stimulation for your mind a great opener. There are so many good songs with so many different twist that it is a wonder how the man was able to pull this off. There are a few instrumentals like Merciful, Beautiful Sadie (only Background vocals, Peace Be With You (reprise) which is actually either an instrumental version or continuance of the song Please Let Me Go.
Please Let Me Go features talented vocalist Sue Ann Carwell who also did some sessions for Johnson on some of his previous solo albums (Johnson produced some songs on her Blue Velvet lp). Other guests include David Cochrane, Kim Riley (Kim Cage), Steve Ivory, Mico Weaver and a few others. Jesse Johnson even let a couple guitar players play lead on a couple songs. There is soul, jazz, funk, rock, instrumentals, ballads and even country on these two discs.
There seems to be a theme of uplifting and rise above the mess we have in not only the world but some of the negativity in music. Slave 2 R Freedom, and Meditiation 01:Astrology are bold and in a sense remind me of 70s Gil Scott-Heron.
I could go on and on about the 20+ songs. The only gripe is some of the songs should have been longer. Especially instrumentals like Merciful and In The Key Of Nudity.
What's great about it: More music for bucks paid
What's not so great: cardboard cover may not prevent cd from breaking. Some songs should have been longer
I would recommend this to a friend!
