Amazing Adventure Game, Now on the PS4
on April 16, 2014

I was a huge fan of the original Tomb Raider games on the PC and I played this new Tomb Raider game on the PS3 as well. This is a great adventure game and while it is slightly different than the original games, it is still very entertaining and fun.
So, what do we get with this new PS4 version?
-The same trophies all over again with a few new ones. If you earned all the trophies on the PS3 version, you'll need to earn them again on the PS4 version.
-Improved game resolution, 1080p. Also improved hair-dirt-skin-water effects. Over-all I didn't notice a huge difference as the original PS3 game looked amazing.
-It is the same game, nothing new, nothing missing in relation to the PS3 version. The DLC from the PS3 version is automatically included in this PS4 version, so you get to switch outfits throughout the game and so on. Nothing special.
-This PS4 version utilizes the PS4 controller. The touch pad is used as an additional button and some close notices in the game will now also come from the controller speaker. The light bar changes colors depending on what you are doing. Holding a torch it will blink red and yellow as well as other neat little touches throughout the game, however I see the light as a distraction and the speaker on the controller with this game doesn't always 100% match up with the audio coming from the speakers, resulting in me turning the controller speaker off from the game menu.
Over-all a wonderful game and I had no issues double dipping at the release date cost of 60US. I played through it a few times on the PS3 to get most of the trophies, and I intend to do the same on the PS4.
Hopefully Tomb Raider will start a chain of PS3 games to be released on the PS4. I would love to have the Dead Space Trilogy again.
Highly Recommended, even if you have played it on the PS3. If you kept your PS3 and still own that version, keep it and skip the upgrade. But for me, as I sold the game and my PS3, this was a no-brainer. Please contact me with any additional questions.

Classic Style Gameplay
on April 16, 2014
Posted by: adrielaugust
from Carlisle, PA
As a huge fan of the original Thief games I was greatly looking forward to playing a new Thief adventure on the next-gen console. Thief has a classic style game play which is lost in many new games these days. This classic style is what us gamers asked for, and they pulled it off perfectly. It is just like the original Thief game in so many ways. They really took their time and made this as faithful to the original series as possible. With that being said, so much has changed over the past 15 years in the gaming world that I feel Thief has let us down a little as we have experience so much more in games.
Pros:
+ Decent Graphics. Went more for style than intense detail.
+ The sounds are perfect! From little noises in you surrounds to eavesdropping on the sometimes hilarious conversations of the guards.
+ There is so much to do as you progress through the game. Many side missions and side objectives in main story missions. The areas are large, and there is much to explore.
+ The ability to save at anytime is a nice feature. Auto-saves are fairly often as well.
+ Perfect Thief Environment and Dialog. Really brought back memories of the original Thief.
+ There is a lot of re-playability. Between going back for items you didn't have the gadget for the first time around, to simply realizing you missed some loot when you thought you got it all. Also replaying a level a different way, maybe more stealthy.
+ The AI is basic, yet very good. If a guard hears you or you cause a distraction, he'll change his usual walking pattern which makes getting around him more difficult.
+ While the maps and missions are linear, there are many little secret places where you can find additional loot. You can take your time and search.
+ The story is good, but takes a while to spike your interest. The further you get in the game the more interesting it gets.
+ Aside from the 8 main story missions, there are 25 or so side missions, plus other missions as you meet/find new characters. Doing them will all greatly extend your play time.
Cons:
- Weird interruptions to load or have a video. Too many times where the control is taken away from the player. I want to play a game, not watch the game play out a scene for me.
- There are too many times where you open a door or window or drop down and are then locked out of where you just came from. Yes they want you to progress further in the level, however this is frustrating if you are trying to get all the loot or complete the extra level objectives.
- The game is quite linear. There are ways to approach enemies to kill or simply try and sneak by them, however there is only one way to get to where you need to go. I expected more adventuring and open world capabilities.
- Sometimes it feels it's unavoidable to have to take a guard out. I want to be able to go through the game and not be noticed and not kill or knock out anyone, which is a trophy, but it's not always easy.
- The story lacks at times making the game play a little slow and lifeless.
- Sometimes platforming is frustrating as you can only climb and drop at particular times in particular places. Also basic control mechanics is a little wonky.
- I hit a major glitch where a rope was not where it needed to be and I didn't have any rope arrows on me and none were available in my area, and I could not complete the mission. I had to revert back to the city (which is an option when you are in missions# and almost 3 hours of progress was lost. When I played it again the rope had loaded, which is very frustrating. Others have claimed the same glitch on multiple consoles. The game also locked up and shutdown #the game, not the PS4). Also I once got stuck in a wall and I saw a guard get stuck in a wall and start twitching until I got closer, then he killed me.
- The map is very limited, by not utilizing symbols or a legend. It does not show starting points of the missions or where other areas open up. Very frustrating and the use of the internet to find what you're looking for is a must.
Over-all this is a great game for classic gamers who played the original Thief games on the PC. If you liked the original games you'll love this because it is the same simple style. New comers will be thirsty for more and something more spectacular, especially on a new next-gen console. Those gamers new to Thief will probably get bored easily. Thief is a game where you need to be patient and take your time, something most kids these days don't have. Though there are times where the game seems to be holding back from how amazing it could be, it still is a solid game with an enjoyable game play experience. You can complete the game in under 15 hours or so, depending on the style in which you play and if you do any side missions. I took my time, did all side missions playing some twice to get all loot or thief challenges and ranked in just under 45 hours. My second play through I picked up no loot, didn't kill or knock-out anyone and simply ran through each level to complete the game on Master difficulty. It took me about 6 hours. Over-all, as I have already played through it twice and have 94% of the trophies, I won't be in a rush to play through it again. Maybe one day.
I would have liked to see a little more creativity used in some spots throughout the story, however it is a very enjoyable game. Those on the fence may want to wait for the price to drop a little so they won't be disappointed, however faithful fans of the series should not hesitate. I must say, due to all the secrets and hidden loot, this is one of the few games where a walkthrough book may be useful.
Highly Recommended!

Fun little Sci-Fi Flick
on April 16, 2014

Even with all the terrible reviews of this movie, I still decided to pick it up on Blu-Ray on release day. I actually enjoyed it, it's well acted and directed and is a solid sci-fi suspense movie. The over-all story telling could have been better, but the film is entertaining.
I wish the extras would have been a little better. For some reason, sci-fi movies are usually the only type of movies I love to see the behind the scenes of. While this movie has basic standard extras, I wish there was more.
The PQ is consistent throughout, however the blacks are not always black and seem cloudy at times. This could be the intended filter on the movie, however I found it distracting and would rather have dark scenes be true black.
Audio is solid and I enjoyed cranking this one up to hear the little noises and be blown away by the loud ones.
Over-all it is a fun sci-fi flick and any fan of the genre should not hesitate to give this one a watch. Being a Liv Schreiber fan also will help as you progress through the film. Keep in mind this is a low budget independent movie, don't expect Transformers. More Moon style.

Finally, A True Next-Gen Game
on April 16, 2014

from Carlisle, PA
Like many of you, I purchased a PS4 on release day and have played through all the major PS4 titles (Killzone, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Thief, Tomb Raider# and we've been waiting for that true next-generation game which we were promised. I must say, inFAMOUS: Second Son is that game and is simply phenomenal and blows all others away in graphics and over-all gameplay.
On a personal note, I played through the game with good karma as well as playing through a second time on expert difficulty on evil karma. I have the Platinum trophy. Great game, very fun. If anyone needs any tips, please don't hesitate to message me or add me as a PSN friend.
What They did Right!
+ Amazing graphics! Smooth, crisp and very Detailed. Great use of the PS4 potential.
+ Very fun open-world Gameplay. Lots to do an see, plenty of exploration.
+ Very good character voice acting and story building. You really get into the characters.
+ Solid story with characters you learn to love, or hate. Different path or story outcome depending if you play to be a hero or be evil #I've completed the game twice, once for each karma path#.
+ Fun and rewarding ways to earn and upgrade new powers. There is Smoke, Neon, Video and Concrete. Each with different uses and capabilities depending on what you're doing.
+ The city of Seattle has changing weather, rain which cause fog and puddles. Very real feeling environment.
Frustrations...
- A.I. is basic, almost the same as in past games. I expected a little more at times throughout the gameplay.
- Sometimes frustrating when you're trying to suck power from smoke, neon, video... and you keep getting shot and interrupting you regaining some of your power. At times, you cannot leave the area to get out of the line of fire as you're playing a mission. Sometimes can be frustrating.
- Over-all the game didn't feel as long as the past two games. Sure there is a lot to do and plenty to explore, however I found every single shard and completed ever single side mission and it still did not take up as much time as past games. Still, ate a big chunk of time and was quite enjoyable to play through multiple times.
- As in past games, you sometimes accidently walk into a mess of bad guys and die, then will be ported back to the nearest checkpoint, which may be 10 blocks away. As the game is huge, sometimes when you go back to the nearest checkpoint it takes time to find where you just were. The good news is anything you accomplished #shard collection, drug bust, other side mission) will be saved when you die and go back to the checkpoint.
The graphics are amazingly detailed and very smooth. Eye poppingly crisp with lively colors. The control is perfect and the voice acting is some of the best I have ever witnessed. It is clear they put a lot of time and effort into this game and it was well worth the wait. They made good use of the power of the PS4 while also utilizing the PS4 controller speaker and touchpad. So far the story and attention to character building is great. It is a completely new story with all new characters, just as we suspected. Though there is mention of Empire City and you'll see some familiar faces as you progress though the game. Very fresh feeling gameplay with lots to offer and plenty to do and explore. This is a very open-world game and every block of the city has lots to do and explore.
There are new and improved powers and abilities and new interesting ways to upgrade your abilities. You start off with utilizing smoke as an energy source instead of electricity as in previous games. Then you "earn" neon, which is nothing short of amazingly beautiful at night, taking neon energy from the neon lights around the city. You also earn more and different powers as you progress through the game like video & concrete. The powers are very different and are a lot of fun to use in different situations. This is a completely new gaming experience as compared to the two previous inFAMOUS titles. The in game clips are directed like movies and the cut scenes are cool and artsy, similar to previous games. You can jump, climb, hover, push or run up walls, and even quickly swoop through vents in buildings to get to the roof or new areas, depending on what powers you have. It's very well designed and thought out. So much fun to play. You quickly can choose your karma by progressively doing good or bad. You can be a hero or a villain, good or evil.
Some of your enemies also have abilities which make the gameplay more challenging. The city of Seattle is huge and there is so much to explore and see. I've played through twice, good and evil karma as well as completing all side missions earning me the Platinum Trophy. The game is very fun and for those Platinum Trophy hunters out there you won't be disappointed and you'll have a blast. Very fun game to take your time with, play and enjoy.
Highly recommended for any PS4 owner. The first true next-gen game.

Very fun Motivational Film
on April 16, 2014

from Carlisle, PA
I would not classify this as a comedy. It is an uplifting adventure drama. Yes there are some parts, mostly in the beginning, which made me chuckle a little, but over-all it is a simple story of a man who wants to do more but is stuck in an average world with an average job. He constantly day-dreams these extravagant stories and it is very entertaining. Where the movie get's really enjoyable is when he stops day-dreaming and actually living his life. Very positive story.
Ben Stiller did a fantastic job of acting and directing. Kristen Wiig was also charming as usual. It is rated PG, however they do say s*** and d*** in it, in that order. Don't let the PG rating deter you from watching this movie, it is not geared toward kids, but it will be enjoyable for everyone.
The PQ is very good and crystal clear throughout the film. The AQ is also extremely good.
Over-all a highly recommended film to purchase on Blu-ray. Well worth it and I'll watch it many times again.

Solid Sci-Fi for Teens
on February 11, 2014
Posted by: adrielaugust

Clearly, this movie is geared toward teens, I'm 31. I probably never would have picked it up unless Harrison Ford was in it. It is a fun and entertaining movie, yet it could have used a little more humor and side-character development. There are many characters and many personalities to get to know, but they handle it well. The young actors are very good and while it was similar to the Hunger Game style, it still held it's own in the genre. The special effects, scenes and over-all sci-fi feel of the movie are all done well.
The movie pacing was good, just when it felt like it was slowing down it would pick back up. The ending seemed very anticlimactic and greatly felt like there is much more to come in a series of films.
The PQ and AQ were both solid a and looked and sounded great on my system.
Recommended for a rent, maybe pick up at the right price.
