Parents take note, this film is not for kids...

After seeing some of director Joe Ruben's older work, I need to update my opinion/review-from Amazon.
Although this film definately is weird from start to finish, mostly because of Mac's creepy performance, this is somewhat predictable, but is that always a movie crime? Not to me, because, Mac does a good villian, maybe too good and very convincing-Oscar nod worthy in my opinion, and the film certainly doesn't drag either, and the rest of the cast does a very nice job-esp. Elijah Wood as the terrified youngster with no help from the outside, leaving him all alone to battle Henry to the earth shattering conclusion, and I gurantee you, the ending will shock almost everyone who is/or has been a parent.
What's great about it: The cast, story, music, and direction
What's not so great: the skepticism of certain charecters

Wanna play a deadly game?

I rented this movie after months of being pushed into it by friends, not expecting to like it, I was wrong. Not only did I like it, I now own the whole series.
It begins with Adam and Dr.Gordon both chained to a pipe in a rundown restroom. As their stories start to unfold, it's clear there's an indirect connection between them.
Cary Elwes and Monica Pottter do a very nice job as the married couple in peril. The protaganist is barely introduced here, but his role is perfectly done, and Danny Glover is good as an obsessed cop trying to find the killer.
The music also fit the mood of every scene perfectly, esp. the ending. Even if you don't like scary movies, this series may surprise you, but a word of caution, certain images will not leave your memory easily, definately not for the squeamish either.
What's great about it: the storyline, the charecters, the music
What's not so great: not recommended to anyone with a weak stomache

One of the most twisted comedies I've ever seen

This is one wicked movie! Yes it's a comedy, but it's definately not for everyone, even John Waters fans maybe kinda surprised by it, but after seeing several more of his movies-still have more to see) so far this is my favorite.
Kathleen Turner is a riot as the cheery mother/ homicidal killer, who kills mostly when some one offends her family, but if you haven't seen it, you may want to give it a look, esp. if you like Kathleen Turner or John Waters
I saw it for the first time at 14 and have loved it ever since. Give it a shot!
What's great about it: Kathleen Turner's performance, and the script
What's not so great: a couple murders are a tad over the top

Experimental genetics turn a young couple's grief into outright horror in Lions Gate Home Entertainment's release of director Nick Hamm's Godsend. Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, the image is near flawless, with bright colors, solid blacks, and virtually no evidence of edge enhancement or digital artifacting. Audio is offered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital 5.1 and is free of distortion and hiss. For adventurous viewers who may be curious to delve a bit deeper, Lions Gate has seen fit to include a lively commentary track with director Hamm, who is aided briefly by director of photography Kramer Morgenthau in discussing some of the more technical aspects of the shoot. Hamm is obviously very interested in the psychological and moral questions raised in the film, and though he spends much of the time pointing out the obvious to viewers (plot devices such as the child's toy dinosaur are explicitly singled out), it's DP Morganthau whose commentary -- however brief -- will truly be of interest to aspiring photographers. Four alternate endings with optional writer and director's commentary offer a glimpse into the indecision by the filmmakers on how to wrap up the feature, and a few pages of storyboards round out the presentation nicely.

Creepy movie, but not sure which way to go.

Okay, so this film is cliche ridden, with great actors, a hot-topic story, this is more suspenseful and weird, than scary, although it has a few creepy moments. The script isn't sure which direction to take-between horror, suspense, or morality tale. Apparently, it tries to all these, among others-esp. evil child genre, but throws in a few surprises along the way, some are obvious, others are not. I thought it was good overall, even though alot of people tend to disagree, I listen more to word of mouth alot more than the critics, but sometimes, even that doesn't work, so judge for yourself.
What's great about it: the story, charecters/actors
What's not so great: too many twists

The Harrison Ford/Gary Oldman thriller Air Force One soars onto a single DVD by Columbia/Tristar that contains two different versions of the same film. Side A of the disc presents the movie in a widescreen format that preserves the 2:35.1 aspect ratio of the original film. The flip side of the disc presents the movie in a pan-and-scan full-screen version that has been reformatted for television. Almost all of the movie takes place on an airplane, and the DVD soundtrack in English two-channel and 5.1 Dolby Digital sound brings the thundering of the plane so much to life that home viewers will be tempted to run outside to flag down approaching jets. The disc also contains the theatrical trailer and a commentary by director Wolfgang Petersen, who sounds as if he's having a great time revealing all of the film's technical aspects. Surprisingly, he reveals that Air Force One was originally developed for Kevin Costner. The DVD comes with a booklet that provides more film background.

Harrison Ford as the president, he's got my vote!
on February 15, 2010

The president battles Russian terrorists in this film, right after giving a speech saying he won't negotiate with terrorists, at all. Gary Oldman hijacks AFO taking everyone including the wife and child in an attempt to force the president to follow his demands. Harrison Ford isn't the first movie
pres. that I'd root for in these conditions, Bill Pullman in Independence Day comes to mind.
Gary Oldman does a very good job as the main villian, as usual, plus Glenn Close does a very good job as the VP, the whole cast does a nice job actually, and Jerry Goldsmith does a thunderous musical score.
You want a good action flick with convincing charecters, vote for Harrison Ford!
What's great about it: almost everything
What's not so great: gary oldman's a little too easy to hate.

The devil's in the details, they say, and that's certainly the case with End of Days, which did little to further the careers of either Arnold Schwarzenegger or Gabriel Byrne (or that of director Peter Hyams, perhaps the most proficient hack in Hollywood.) The DVD pads out the movie with a fair bit in the way of extras, the majority of which has to do with the details. Lots of them. More specifically, aside from a commentary by Hyams, a text piece on the Book of Revelations, and a "Spotlight on Location" piece, there is a section called "Special Effects: The Devil's Playground," which delves at length into various special effects sequences ranging from a spectacular subway crash to a sex scene featuring Gabriel Byrne and two women (Fight Club used similar technology for similar effect, curiously enough). Getting through these supplements takes some time. The movie has been transferred with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, anamorphically enhanced for 16 x 9 televisions. The source print is excellent, and the transfer shows off rich, deep colors despite an overall dark production design (a few minutes in, there is a fly-over shot of Manhattan that has wonderful patches of vivid color on the buildings.) There is no evidence of compression artifacts. The Dolby 5.1 Audio is excellent, with nice Surround work, great dialogue clarity, and a deep, clear bass that does a terrific job with both rumbles and thumps. The music is served very well by the mix, with elements woven into all corners of the Surround image, rather than being focused to the front. The French 2.0 mix is clear and nicely done, though with less separation between elements; the voice cast and dubbing seem to be uniformly good. Finally, the Hyams commentary is generally low-key, with regular pauses and a fair bit of rambling around -- as director's commentaries go, this isn't the worst, but it does tend to be on the boring side.

Arnold vs. the devil, what more could you ask for?

Arnold plays a vulnerable portrayal of good in this film, while Gabriel Byrne plays the ultimate entity of evil. In this film's story-in 1999, the devil is released from his prison, and Arnold must use every weapon at his disposal to stop him from claiming the world. As you may expect, the devil's got some tricks up his sleeve too, the music is creepy, fitting the many moods of a good story of good vs. evil. take a look!
What's great about it: Just about everything
What's not so great: excessive language

a big twist at the end makes up for the length,...

Well acted, even though a couple charecters are very hard to like, this is much better than any evil child movie I've ever seen. despite some clear simalarities to them here, the so-called cliches don't ruin the story either.
The twist at the end, unless your extremely perceptive, you won't see coming, although some people I've spoken with weren't that surprised when it happened, but before you take my word for how good it is, see it for yourself, I have it in my library, but that doesn't mean that everyone will agree that it's owner's material, I'm sure not everyone will like it, but I would advise parents not to let anyone under age watch it-there's alot of adult content that kids just shouldn't see. This one is definately for adults only-a few scenes creeped me out and I'm 29.
What's great about it: the acting, the story, the twist
What's not so great: It's a tad too long.

the remake is not superior, this one IS better

Terry O'quinn can play a creepy charecter, he proved that with this horror classic, the whole cast does a nice job, Joe Ruben, well known now for suspense thriller classics like Sleeping w/the Enemy, and one of my personal favorites-the Good Son. With this film, Terry can go from family man to psychotic in a split second, very convincing in both traits.
My only suggestion is watch this before you see the remake, and try not to compare the two, although I know it's hard not to do that, with most remakes/sequels.
What's not so great: no subtitles/captions

After watching the original again, I'm pleased to say that I enjoyed both versions of this film. Dylan Walsh is very creepy as the muderous s-father and the rest of the cast does a nice job. Nelson McCormick does a nice job as director even though to me he isn't trying to outdo Joe Ruben, the music by Charlie Clouser-SAW'S composer makes the mood as creepy. My only real complaint is only director's cut is buyable on DVD and you have no option for the PG-13 version, only the unrated. Some movies on DVD have given you the option between the unrated/ theatrical version-but not this one. Oh well. Before assuming that the remake isn't any good, give it a shot you may be surprised.
What's not so great: no PG-13 edition w/ unrated one
