For Oasis fans, this is a happy return to form. Not as outstanding as early '90s, but much better than late 90s. Noel's songs - lyrics, music and vocals are consistently outstanding. "I'm Falling Down" is going on my list of favorite songs of all time. "Waiting for the Rapture" is awesome. Poor Liam - still trying to incarnate John Lennon. HIs "I'm Outta Time" is a very good song, lyrically and vocally, but he does try a little too hard at times. The other band members contribute songs this time around - a little shakey, but show promise. Overall this is an album that deserves praise. Noel is definitely deeper and more mature than ever before. I personally would love to see NG do a solo album. His voice appeals to me much more than Liam's at this point in their career.
For Weller's 50th birthday year, he drops 22 Dreams and tours extensively. What a great mix of tunes with very strong lyrics. He is not tentative about singing of heartbreak, love for a woman and even the love for a headstrong child.
What's great about it: Great variety of styles. Strong lyrics and music
Dylan's Masterpiece!! Not a false step anywhere. Lyrics, music, studio musicians - it all comes together in perfection. Leaves the Beatles, Stones and anyone else you might have thought about, in the dust. From the rocking out on Rainy Day Women, Stuck Inside of Mobile and Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat - to the aching beauty of Visions of Johanna (my personal favorite Dylan tune of all time), Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands and Just Like a Woman. Just listen to Fourth Time Around and then Norweigan Wood by the Beatles. Both have the same subject matter, but Dylan steals the show from Lennon.
This is one of the best albums in all of Rock and Roll. If you can listen to this without a tug to your heart, then you aren't human. Lyrical dissection of a marriage gone bad.
What's great about it: Heart felt emotion in his voice and lyrics
This is a live compilation of Weller's solo work performed on the BBC. The price is a little steep stateside, but well worth it if you have no other options. The evolution and maturity of Weller's writing and voice are a pure pleasure.
What's great about it: Excellent Overview of Solo Career
