Invest in this game, give it stars if you like it

This game is amazing if you appreciate what it technically achieves.
This game probably is only suited to those who want a little more out of the rock games than flashing lights super ultra bonuses. This game WILL NOT teach you how to play the guitar. I did not venture to the basic menus, but I think if you have never held or strummed a guitar, you will be dissapointed in the lessons. If this is you I recommend picking up cheap guitar and goofing arround online or with friends before going to this program.
It has a more chilled out approach.
If you have ever goofed around with an axe as a teen/tween you won't have a problem goofing off here either. The game seems to me (not explicitly defined in the game# to change dynamically how you are playing. There is no easy, medium, hard, levels to choose from. Litterally if I am having trouble and stop playing for 5 seconds, it seems that when I jump in, there are less notes untill i get back into the groove. Brilliant. I don't believe it but I really think it is so.
I pulled out an Epiphone guitar I paid a few hundred dollars for 10 years only to play this game. I was supprised at how well it acknowleged my strokes even with the old strings. There was for sure a delay, 1/8 second ish. But the fact that the game encouraged mutes #Red Hot Chili Pepers - Higher Ground# inspired me to write this review. I admit, I was never took guitar lessons but knew what mutes were. Once I figured out the notation, it was a revelation. Really. The only game I have ever played where mutes score points #and I haven't advanced far eneough to know in this game but harmonics are plausible, maybe if only for future release).
If you are a musician, invest in the posibilities. You might actually have a decent time with this game too. Either way, you get a USB cable/adaper with this combo. Supposedly it is comptible with the PC if you have the correct software.
What's great about it: The ability to connect any guitar with an electic pickup is phenominal
What's not so great: It is a bit simplistic, but still a lot of fun for musicians
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fun to play but...

I actually really enjoy playing this game. The characters have much more definition (compared to Soul Calibur IV on XBOX). The online game matching seems to work pretty well too.
The story line is based on one character only, Patroklis. Although it was better than SC IV, it can be beaten relatively easy in a few hours (22 episodes/levels).
I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fighting games, because the fighting is pretty enjoyable.
That being said, it seems to be a "dumbed down" version of SC IV, as they removed a lot of the features I liked.
- There are a good amount of extra equipment and clothes you can use to create cutom characters, but equiping these items SEEMS to have no effect on characters strengths or weaknesses. In SC IV, the game explictly made (though a point system) wearing chain mail better defenses versus wearing a cotton outfit only. Similarly, carrying a larger weapon would deliver more damage to the opponent, but would make your character slower. In THIS game, wearing a leather coat is the same was wearing underwear only. I am baffled why they took out the distinction.
- SC IV allowed you to earn gold for each battle won. Using this gold, you could buy extra clothing or weapons AND SPECIAL MAGIC/MOVES that would make your character stronger (based on the above). This gave you something to play for, and you had to decide what equipment for which characters you wanted to purchase. With THIS game, you unlock new clothing and equipment the more you play. The problem is, you have no idea (or quantity of) the items that you can unlock. They just are mysteriously given as you win battles. I prefered earning the gold, and choosing what equipment I wanted for which characters.
- There is only a universal "Player Level" number. The more you play, the more you number goes up. Very generic, and is unclear what that actually means. In SC IV, the player number was individual to each game character, and was not universal to every character. If you wanted to improve one character, you needed to use them. Characters left un played, would never improve, which makes sense to me.
- They took out the Tower of Lost Souls. It was a bonus single player challenge in which you battled to get up the tower, and then down the tower. Although I thought it was a bit long challenge (39 levels I think), I considered it a bonus challenge.
-They took out single player "tag team" levels. Select 2 or more characters and play one or all of them (one at a time) based on who you were fighting.
- CPU opponents seem to fall into two dificullty levels. Moderate and Very Hard. There doesnt seem to be much in between. In story mode, it is relatively easy until level 18, which the challenge instantly becomes much much harder.
- As rewards for winning battles, they added around 250 "tittles" you can win, such as "Creation is Fun", or "Use the Stick". Huh? Who really cares about 250 titles. 50, ok, but I would rather get more equiment or abilities than more "titles"
- Its trivial, but I always enjoyed the narating part of Soul Calibur. They person that narates this game has a very weak voice. At the title screen, he says "Soul Caliber.... 5????". It sounds like he is unsure which game he is narating. Very poor for a fighting game. His naration fails at various points in the game as well.
What's great about it: Despite all the parts they mysteriously removed from the game, It is still fun to play, and I recommend it;

I originally bought a 32 GB PNY class 10 (20MB/sec) card for my Canon 60D DSLR camera. Although, I think it was more of a problem with the 60D than the PNY card, the PNY card was not fast enough when recording in full 1080p video. With this card, I have had no issues. I still use the PNY card for shooting photos or taking non-HD movies.
Regardless, I definitely notice a difference when using this card, and when transfering images to my computer. This card is really for demanding users (at 45MB/sec). Its expensive, but it solved my HD video recording problems.

Good system with some flaws

First of all I have been using XBox 360 for several years now, and love it and the Kinect, but was looking for alternative gaming with the Move and for the PS3 exclusive games. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it to others. I found the included Sports Championship game to be a lot of fun to play and very accurate. Disc Golf and Bocce Ball are my favorites, although all 6 of the games on the disc are a lot of fun, and responsive with the Move controllers. The PS3 exclusive games are very impressive, and I would say are graphically better than XBox games, but the games that are on both systems, look basically the same. So when people are saying PS3 have better graphics, they really mean better graphics for the exclusive games (God of War, Kill Zone, etc..). The reason for this is that PS3 has better hardware, but game developers make games to be compatible on both XBox and PS3.
There were/are some issues that I am not to pleased with. It kind of makes me wonder why people claim this is the best console ever made. It clearly has flaws, as does the XBox The XBox has a higher cost of ownership with online gaming and hardware is a little more expensive when comparing hard drive sizes, etc... But i do find the XBox to be far more polished as far as the user interface is concerned. This is probably because Microsoft is a software company, while Sony is a hardware company. Ill explain more below.
This is the Move/Sports Championship bundle I purchased. After opening the box (a cardboard sleeve that stated it was a bundled system), the "interior box" had a check list of what was inside. Console - check, Dual Shock Controller - check. No move bundle options here (I wondered if I had an authentic bundle package or did somebody simply put a sleve over the cheaper system with no move controlers).. After envisioning a situation having to explain this to Best Buy the missing Move system if I had to return the PS3, I cut the tape, and found all the move parts inside. I am not sure why Sony did not put a sticker, or mark the box in some way to indicate the bonus items inside the box... bad first impression...
Next I hooked everything up. I had no trouble, but there were basically no directions for hooking things up and for charghing the 2 controllers that were in the box. I am sure there will be some parent or someone who could use those directions. I already knew that they used USB cables for charging, but, there was only one cable in the box. If I did not have extra cables laying around my house, I would only be able to use one controller right away. But I was ittching to both controllers. The actual console only has 2 USB connections ON THE FRONT OF THE CONSOLE. If you intend to use the Move Camera, now you only have one USB to charge your controllers. Sure, I had a laptop and a wall outlet to charge the controllers via USB, but why do I have to plug the camera into the front of the console? For such a sleek, and impressive looking system, I really don't want to have a cable sticking out of the front for a camera, which has no reason to ever be disonnected.
Once turned on, there was only very basic options to set up the current time and such. Then, you are thrown into PS3s interface with little direction what to do. Sure it was a learning curve (as I would expect). Multiple times I would try to do an action that required an an account, and rather than bring me right to that menu to create an account, it would give me directions how to create an account. (ex. Exit out of this menu, then find the settings menu, then go to ... then go to ...,). Why not just take me right there? Kind of difficult to use the interface. Even after everything is set up, certain menus or functions still don't seem to connect together very well. For example, you can put a picture on your background (great idea). You have to do this in the Themes Menu. But if you want to download a photo to your PS3, you have to do it in the gallery menu. The two should be linked together somehow, since it is likely while looking at pictures in the gallery, a user may want to set a photo they like as a background. But they are not. Its like software from 5 years ago. Why not update the system to be easier to use? Compare that to the XBox which is very easy to navigate, and you will be prompted to if you need to go to another funtion, such as create an account or whatever. You get used to it, but it takes longer to get things done with the PS3. While I realize that many people may truly prefer PS3s user interface, I sincerely doubt they prefer the lack of continuity issues I mentioned above. This could be easily fixed by Sony, but whether they will, I have no idea.
Other things that are anoying to me is after downloading a game demo OR Manditory GAME UPDATES, you have install the game. During this time, you cannot use any part of the PS3 whatsoever. This may take 5-10 minutes. You are all syched to start playing a game then hit a wall, while an update is downloaded and installed. The XBox either does not install game demos, or does it in the background (it does however have to install when installing a physical disc game to the hard drive on the XBox which can take 5-10 minutes).
I was also used to being able to play music (streaming from my laptop wirelessly, by an IPod pluged in via a USB cable, or music installed on my XBox). ALL games can do this very easily, which replaces the game soundtrack with music, and still plays the sound effects (gun fire, etc) which are needed in most games though the speakers. For games you play a lot, many people would probably like this function, especially when having a party or guests over. This is not integrated into the PS3. Even that specific game allows this, you have to start playing the music inside the game. (Have to start the game before starting the music). The XBox music can start at any time, and plays continuously when starting or stopping a new game. Yes the PS3 can stream music and movies (I think), but not while playing a game. Note with the XBox, I have found the music needs to be in MP3 format. Apple's AAC or M4P formats will not play because they are proprietary to Apple.
I have come to realize that I prefer having removable battery packs that the XBox has. I am not sure why Sony does not have the option to remove a battery (so you can charge one battery pack while using the other). The only other option is to buy an extra controller to charge or plug your controller into a USB port when it runs out of energy. That kind of defeats the point of wireless controllers though.
Overall, the system is good when acctually playing games, which is what you are really buying it for. I already had a BluRay player, so I have not used that function. One thing that I do not like though is the BluRay slot, instead of a disc tray. This will inevitably lead to scratches on the movies or games you purchase. I would say that XBox would be easier for kids, since the user interface is more intuitive. I would recommend this system if you already have an XBox, or are not easily annoyed with sometimes un-user friendly interface. The Move and game exclusives make it a worthwile purchase.
What's great about it: Hardware seems good quality
What's not so great: User interface software is seriously lacking continuity and options.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Durable DSLR

I was going back and forth between the 60D and the 7D. Besides the $600ish price difference what is the real difference to the "typical" consumer? While I was prepared to purchase the 7D, I was concerned about the size (and secondly for me the weight). After handling the 7D I realized it was a significantly more robust camera than the 60D. A bit more than I was looking for as a hobbyist photographer. That being said, the 60D still has a very full and robust feel and is comfortable to hold. Its predecesor, the 50D (which I have not handled), had a metal body (which also added weight). The 60D is not metal but still feels very stable and firm, not cheap by any means. I don't think the non-metal case is an issue, but rather a benfit, because it makes it lighter.
As I learned from reading specs. on other websites, the 7D, 60D, and Rebel T3i have the EXACT same 18 megapixel image sensor. In image controlled image tests on these websites, it is pointed out that image quality between these three cameras will be almost the same.
The main difference between i see between these cameras is the ability to cusomize both menu and button functions, and customize how you shoot your photos. The 7D, however is significantly more advanced in that it has Dual processors (not image sensors), which will result in much faster image processing, and therefore more photos per second. Also, the 7D also has superior autofocus capabilities (19 points vs 9) which will help in focusing. Of course faster is always better, the 60D has been super fast for me (5.3 frames per second), and I havent had any focusing problems.
Another thing pointed out by websites and people I know is that the lens you attatch will have more effect on the photo quality than the actual camera body. This makes sense, especially considering 3 cameras with the same image sensor..
I was concerned about the 18mm-135mm lens in the kit. I am glad that I purchased the kit with the lens. Although it does feel "cheep" (I knew this when I purchased) it does seem to take great photos. It is noisy (uses a DC motor, like a little toy car sound), but still think it is worth it in the "kit". I probably wouldnt pay the $500 this lens sells for separately, but with the kit, it is a good value if you do not have many or any lenses.Takes better pictures than the way it feels.
Considering this was my first DSLR I decided to purchase the 60D Kit, and spend the extra money on purchasing "better" quality lenses. I have purchased the 70-300mm USM (quiet) tele-zoom lens plus the 60d kit for less than the 7D kit with one lens.
Although, I never planned to use it, I was however very disapointed with the LiveView (use the LCD screen instead of the viewfinder to take pictures) on the 60D (don't know about the others). It takes too long to focus in this mode. Because it is so SLOW (compared to regular viewfinder), I find it a useless function.
Some review have not liked the lack of tactical feedback from the buttons (button are not overly responsive). Although I can see how some may not like the button response, they are still quite usable, and it is not a big deal to me.
Of course there are other differences, but I found the main broad differences are as follows. Since all have the exact same image sensors:
-T3i is good for budget consious who is not overly concerned with custimization or options when taking photos (3.7 frames per second)
-60D has more options, and is faster than the T3i (5.3 frames per second)
-7D is much faster at processing and focussing camera for those who want specific photo options available to them. (8 frames per second)
What's great about it: Great build quality, realatively easy to use for new to DSLR
What's not so great: Live View is too slow (wasn't planning on using it though)

Type of Listener:Avid listener
Most Important to Purchase:Sound quality
Terrible product. The picture on the packaging shows a guy wearing the headphones OVER his dread locks and a knit cap. This is the only way these phones will fit, otherwise you will have a space the size of your finger berwen your ear and the phones. I always though the oversized phones were to block out surrounding noise. These will block nothing. For a moment I actually considered wearing a headband OVER the phones,, lol
Sound quality is extremely poor unless you use your hands to push them against your ears. Kind of like holding your cell phone 1 inch from your ear-- not good. Even so, my free SONY mp3 player earbuds sound much better.
I bought these primarily because of the 3 meter cord for use with an electronic drum set. However, the cord seemed flimsey like it wouldn't last.
What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: sound. fits poorly

Best game for Kinect so far
on November 25, 2010

Game is a lot of fun. I don't normally listen to the "pop" dance songs in this game. Nonetheless, I found it a lot of fun to learn the dance moves to these songs. I was supprised how well the game taught me the moves, and after an hour or two, I was able to dance to Lady Gaga's dance moves on the hard level because I accually remembered and anticipated the actual dance moves she does.
If you don't have the Kinect yet, there is a fraction of a second delay from your movements to on screen action. For this game, the lag does not matter because you are more in tuned with the audio beat, not the dancer on the screen. Once you learn the moves, the on screen "mirror" is only there to tell you if you mess up. Because you are reacting to the sound (beat) not the video, the video delay doesn't have much effect. They do have a delay factor adjustment (audio vs video) on this game, but I did not need to use it.. Good to have though for some people.
If you have the Kinect, I would say this is a must have. Next would be Bowling on Kinect Sprots. Again, the delay does not matter in thie game because you are not reacting to the video on the screen, so the small delay does not matter.
If you play this game, you will be sweating in no time, and have a lot of fun doing so.
What's great about it: Music variety is good, audio vs video adjustment option available (don't think other kinect games have), teaches well
What's not so great: Game is worth every penny. Nothing bad. Dance, be merry.

Great Film
on September 15, 2010

I really enjoy watching this movie. The filming is absolutely gorgeous, as it takes place almost entirely on the Mongolian plains and surrounding areas. Of the 50+ Blurays I own, I think this one has the most stunning cinemetography, and excellent audio as well.
Also, I really enjoyed the acting from these unknown actors. Although this film is not heavy on dialog, it is only presented in Mandrin (with English subtitles). Some viewers may not like reading subtitles, but I think the Mandrin language adds to the experience. The lack of English audio was done intentionally.
One problem I find with the film is that at multiple times, the story jumps in time, and results in a somewhat unclear timetable. Also, the main character "Temuldin", ie Gengas Khan, gets himself out of trouble with little explaination. Finally, the film ends before Temuldin becomes Gengas Khan. I would like to have the story continue, or be continued in a sequel.
I have watched this movie many times, and think you will too. Despite the few problems noted above, I definitly recommend this movie because of the quality of the filming and the audio.
What's great about it: Georgious Scenery and Great Audio
What's not so great: Jumps in time making timeline unclear.

Awsome movie, with some technical problems
on November 28, 2009

I never watched this movie till I bought it in this Blue-Ray format. I would highly recommend this movie for people who like sci-fi / suspense / horror. The plot isn't very complicated, but the cinemetography is as good as it gets for this type of film. The camera angles, lighting, and colors were well thought out in the production. Much to my suprise, VinDiesel did an excellent job as Riddick, as well did all the other actors.
Several times durring the BlueRay Disc there are problems with the audio and video being out of sync. They have both theatrical and directors cut versions on the disc, which I suspect attribute to the problems. I would have expected someone from the disc manufaturer to actually watch the completed disc before releasing it. It is possible that I have hardware "lagging" problems , but the audio problems always occur at the same point (and correct at the same point) on the disc. Also, I have not had any audio problem with the 20+ other BDiscs I have watched. Yes, my firmware is up to date on the BD player.
Reguardless, I enjoyed watching this movie, and would still recommend this disc if it on sale. If you can get past the audio sync issues (as annoying as they can be), you should get this disc. I have not seen the DVD version which I am sure does not have this problem.
If you like this movie, I highly recommend "The Chronicles of Riddick" which is the sequel to this movie. I had NO problems with audio in this release.
What's great about it: Visually stunning. This is what HD is all about.
What's not so great: Audio is out of sync with the video at some points

You are correct, Keyan. Switching the Live View to Quick Mode focus is MUCH faster than the default setting. Using the viewfinder is still faster, as expected, though. Thanks for the tip!

Way overpriced, but you do get what you pay for.
For those of you who are turned off by the price, it is a full frame 35 mm DSLR, not a partial frame like most of the rest of the cameras out there. There are cheaper cameras that uses a smaller sensor but they cause everything to appear farther away and you have to buy very low mm range lenses to do close up shots.
USM lenses will work, but the L series gives you the sharpest images. I recommend getting a 50 mm f 1.4 or 1.8 (a real bargain), and a 24-105 mm f 4 L IS or a 24-70 f2.8 L, and the 70-200 f2.8 L IS.
Finally I can use my f4 L lenses to shoot indoors in low light without using a flash! Shooting at an ISO below 30,000 seems to be noise free, above that you start getting noise in the dark parts but that is easily taken out. Was shooting pictures in pre-dawn light that look like they were lit by the sun.
Picture quality is outstanding. I haven’t analyzed the noise spectrum but so far the level of detail is impressive. Below 25000 ISO the images look noise free and above the noise is controllable.
The controls and functions have completely moved around and new ones have been added. The menu structure has also changed which makes it harder to find the different settings. A good deal of the settings can be mapped to different buttons and you can now map three custom configurations directly to the mode button so you don’t have to set them up every time you shoot. Manual is a must read through before using the camera to see the new settings and features.
Movies are very good but it does not auto-focus. Camera is heavy which makes for good photos, but is hard to hold steady for any length of time. I found myself constantly adjusting the focus to keep moving objects in focus. If I had used a larger aperture would have helped with this. For rapidly moving objects drop down to 1280x720 60p mode to reduce artifacts.
I’m still reading the manual to find out what the lowest ISO you can use in movie mode but I think it’s 12800. That is good enough where you can take movies at very low light levels with acceptable amounts of noise. I shot a movie in pre-dawn light as a test and it was very good and looked like it was lit by the sun, but there was noise in the dark sections and a little chromatic aberration at the edges. Still I was impressed I could do it at all.
This won’t replace a dedicated HD camcorder, but it still takes impressive video and great still images. To get the best of movie recording use fast SD or CF cards and low level format them on the camera. Use the camera with a monopod or tripod for best results.

Doesn't relate to this camera, but your information was backwards. A crop frame sensor will make things appear closer with the exact same lens. Crop sensors are smaller, cameras multiply the "effective" view by 1.6. So a 50 mm lens will seem like an 80 mm lens on a crop frame sensor camera, which appears "closer", not "farther away".
Think of it like cropping a photo, you are effectively zooming in to a smaller area (smaller sensor), not zooming out.
Make sure you don't mount a crop frame lens (EF-S) to this camera body or you will phisically destroy the mirror making the camera usless.

how do I buy the xbox with all the games for $450.00?

I was at best buy this morning and was told that if I wanted to buy xbox with games such as bowling, boxing etc. I should purchase it on line for less. Instead of it costing $399 plus $200, it would only cost me $450.00. If this is true how do I purchase it.
If you are concerned about money, buy the 4GB version for $299 with the Kinect Sensor. If you are new to gaming you do not need the 250GB version. The extra storage will generally only be needed to download game demos, videos, full PAID games. You can upgrade to the 250GB hard drive later for about $130 if you want. Otherwise, simply plug in a USB flash drive for extra storage, look it up online (1 GB minimum drive required).

Use that extra $100 to buy games. Best Buy has offered buy 3 Kinect games and save around $20-30 a few times, so keep your eyes peeled
