I was a big fan of the originals back in the 80s, particularly Beyond Thunderdome. When I saw a remake was coming and that it had cast Tom hardy and Charlize Theron to boot I was pretty excited. For fans of Mad Max or just dystopian future movies in general, this one does not disappoint! The action is off the charts and over the top, but in a very good and entertaining way. This is definitely a Grade A popcorn flick that keeps you entertained from start to finish. This is by far one of my favorite action films of 2015. Every part is well acted and this bleak future is brought to life on screen in a very believable and stunning fashion. Highly recommended.

I'm a fan of indie films and low budget actioneers as their production quality has really improved over the last few years, to the point that some of my favorite movies from the last couple of years were actually independent films. That being said, even though I was a tad hesitant on this title as the last two "Behind Enemy Lines" sequels were lackluster affairs, I went ahead and picked it up.
I actually quite enjoyed the film despite its flaws. It felt like the director just said, we don't have a HUGE budget here, but let's just go nuts with what we do have. The opening gunfight treats you to more slow motion bullet impacts then you're likely to see in an entire film elsewhere, but if you're like me you enjoy that sort of nonsense. Then there were several "bail out" scenes where a team member would jump from a moving vehicle and just barely miss having an RPG impact his center body mass...how they filmed those scenes I'm still trying to figure out because they were pretty nuts to behold. And the fight that ensues in the city at the end with Lex basically fighting off a city block's worth of bad guys is just insane...not believable, but incredibly fun to watch, lol. The one thing this sequel had going for it that the other 2 didn't was that it had a director who knew how to appeal to pure action/adrenaline junkies with his style of cinematography.
So if you're looking for a good popcorn flick that is more style than substance, I'd recommend a viewing.

What's great about it: Over the top action and some crazy RPG dodging scenes
What's not so great: your usual plot holes and dialog issues from a B film

I originally picked this movie up on DVD, but I liked it so much I went out and bought the blu ray of it so I could see it in it's full glory...and at $9.99 it's a fantastic deal on one of Colin Farrell's best movies in years, not to mention the great performance by Noomi Rapace.
Without trying to give away too much, Colin is basically a man with a personal score to settle with some unsavory characters. Noomi plays a woman in the neighboring building who accidentally sees Colin handling some of his "business" through his apartment window. She has a vendetta of her own to settle and sees Colin's character as a means to an end for that. What starts out as an almost "blackmail" situation evolves into complicated but genuine relationship against the backdrop of his personal vendetta coming to a violent and dangerous climax that could get them both killed.
If you like action films that actually have some great writing and character development to them, then this one is for you.

If you are a fan of either of these films and don't yet have them on blu ray then you need to do yourself a favor and pick them up! At $11.99 for both films remastered in high def, there just sin't anything not to like. Gladiator is one of the all time best epics in this genre, but Troy, in my humble opinion, also has it's place as one of the greats. The battle between Hector and Achilles is one of my all time favorites. Some folks have complained about Troy being the extended cut in this version. I really don't have an issue with that as I feel it just adds a little extra detail to the story. Overall, one of the best blu ray bundle deals I've come across in years, considering not too long ago the sapphire blu ray version of Gladiator sold for as much as $24.99 alone. Go get it!

When I first saw the unveiling of the collector's edition of this game I was in awe of the amazing statue (almost 2 feet tall) not to mention the hard cover art concept art book that came with it. With a $250 price tag of course I was a little hesitant, but since I am a Gamer's Club unlocked member I got $50 off that price so I had to go for it.
The statue itself is great. It stands about 22 inches tall which is just massive for this kind of thing. The box that it came in is literally big enough to fit a small person in, lol. The titan and the enemy pilot standing on top of it both have light up LED's which can be switched to show the Titan or the pilot as blue (friendly) or red (enemy). It's definitely a first rate collector's item if you into game memorabilia. The hardcover art book is a gem in itself. It's extremely high quality. Art Books of this caliber generally sell between $60 - $100 if you compare it with something from a company like Ballistic Publishing. There is also a certificate of authenticity for the statue which shows it's production number (these were limited to 35,000 if I read correctly) and giant poster of a titan schematic or "blueprint", if you will.
And then of course there's the game itself :) I don't think I need to elaborate to heavily on that as by now I'm sure you've seen all the hype and reviews out there. I will simply say that If you didn't upgrade to XBox One just to play this title, you really didn't miss out on too much. BluePoint did an amazing job of making the XBox 360 version look and feel like it's counterparts on XBox One and PC. Obviously the graphics are quite as high res as those systems due to hardware limitations, but overall even people who have been playing religiously on the higher end platforms have said they really can't tell much of a difference when they do a review for the 360 platform. That being said, it's a multiplayer only game, which is probably the only minor gripe that I have. But given the fact that it brings some much needed innovation to both the FPS and multiplayer genre in general, that small item can be overlooked. The gameplay is fast paced, the weapons all feel great, and there's a great element of strategy to the matches.
Overall I'd rate the collectors items a 5 out of 5 and the game itself a 4.5 out of 5.

Overall I enjoyed this film, though I must say it had it's share of bizarre moments. I liked the overall concept and story line and how the film tried to give the viewer conflicted feelings about who the "real" bad guys were. My biggest beef with the film is quite simply that it's something that will really only appeal as a "great film" to a niche audience...namely those who subscribe to the political and philosophical viewpoints of the main characters. There is definitely an agenda being pushed with this one, that much is clear about half way through. While I could sympathize with the members of the so-called "eco-terrorist" group on some points, others just didn't resonate with me, for instance Ellen Page's character being completely OK with killing babies, but profoundly disgusted at the thought of harming a tree. Also, the end scenes taking place during the credits were difficult to belive at best. Overall, not a bad film, but not my personal cup of tea. If you associate yourself with the "Hipster" movement, then you will most likely enjoy this one.

World War Z is definitely one of the best zombie flicks in recent years (assuming you like the intelligent kind). If your strictly a gore hound, look elsewhere. Brad Pitt turned in a great performance as well as all of the supporting cast. I particularly liked his sidekick during the second half who was thrown together with him more through circumstance than anything. What I most liked about the film was that it tried to take a more realistic approach to the whole concept of a "zombie pathogen" and how it might occur in a real world scenario. Granted, things are ramped up to Hollywood proportions for entertainment value, but you don't have to try quite so hard to suspend your disbelief with this one...just sit back and enjoy...which is probably why I've already watched it 3 times, and expect to watch it several more. On a final note, the extended cut was more intense than the original and I prefer that version now, though the theatrical cut works just fine. I'm not really sure what it was that made the extended version not make cut for the PG 13 rating aside from a few seconds of carnage here and there. I don't think it would have necessarily warranted an R-Rating in theaters, but...is what it is. Definitely recommend a purchase.

The Lost Planet series seems to be one of those underrated titles that never quite gets the recognition it deserves. The first was a great single player exeperience, the second added a full 4 player co-op campaign that was just fantastic when played as intended. This 3rd installment changes things up yet again by takeing the player back to the beginning, a prequel if you will. This time you are put squarely in the shoes of rig (mech) operator Jim Peyton, who's just trying to make a nest egg for his family back on earth by taking a contract job with NEVEC (a global energy corp) on the frozen planet of EDN 3.
The game focuses much more on character interaction and putting you inside Jim's head for what develops into a fairly epic story this time around. You'll spend about hald your time on foot and half in the rig for this game, which you can transfer between seamlessly thanks to the handy dandy retracting fast rope contraption. You'll be rewarded for taking on dangerous side quests with special purpose ammo, player upgrades, and rig upgrades. The story has great pacing and does a fantastic job of letting get settled into your duties and then slowly revealing that something more is going on with EDN 3 than meets the eye.
The combat is great both on foot and in the mech, Akrid are some of the toughest ever fought in the series, and i haven't had such trepidation about exploring uncovered areas since Dead Space 3.
I give it 5 stars, one of the best games I've played this year.

This was an ambitious film for Yue Song who both starred in and choriegraphed the film. The story line is nothing terribly original but action and great diversity of fighting styles makes up for the less than stellar plot (let's face it, how many of us expect an oscar worthy story from these types of films anyway?). If you love a good old school beat down flick, Hong Kong style, you really can't go wrong here.

Buying the 12 month subscrpition for PSN is already the best way to go in terms of annual savings. When I purchased it, Best Buy had it on sale for yet another $10 of retail price. 1 year for $39.99 was too good to pass up! Definitely recommend this route vs. the monthly billing if you can swing it.
