My XBR-55X850B went bad after 5 months. I was watching tv today and the whole screen turned to vertical lines all the way across the tv.
Now Sony wants me to wait 2 and a half weeks for another one. I was burned in the past by Sony with an SXRD projection tv with a picture that turned green. I should have bought Samsung or LG. Now I have to watch tv with vertical lines in the picture for a while.

I bought this 2011 greatest hits disc just for song number one. After a minute and a half, the song skips. There are no scratches on the disc. All my other discs play fine even with scratches. I wish I bought the 1995 version for $5 less. Now I'm stuck with this 2011 version because it's been opened. I don't believe a replacement would play any different.

Buyer beware

The picture quality, when the tv works, is good for 5 stars. However its the life of the tv that gets 1 star. I have purchased Sony tvs for over 20 years and the past 10 years has upset me with the short life of the tvs. Sony is replacing my tv but it's a week and four day process. I do not like going from a great picture to a horrible picture and have to watch it that way for a week and a half. I lost $3000.00 on a 2005 KDS-R50XBR1 because every single set had a defective optical block. Sony quit making projection tvs after that. You had to pay for a replacement tv. That's why I gave it this review. I thought I'd give Sony another try. The tv they are sending had better last. This part is for Best Buy. When I come in to compare two other brands, I don't want a sales person suggesting that I buy something different. If I bought what I wanted in the first place, this would have not happened to me. I was suggested this tv because it had more colors. I am glad I'm getting a replacement but how long will this one last? It's a roll of the dice.

It will fail, hopefully before your warranty ends

The wait is two weeks and two days for a replacement from Sony. All you people that think it's great now, just wait until it fails. It will look great for a short time and then you will wish you never bought it. I also thought it was going to be a good tv too at first. I'm tired of losing thousands to Sony. They are rich and I'm not. I have to get 24 months payments with my best buy card just to buy these tvs. Plus Sony does not call or email any updates. You have to keep calling them for information after you call them with the problem. I'm finished with buying tvs from Best Buy unless they take back the new tv I'm being sent from Sony tomorrow for an exchange.

does your sony's picture begin to fade when viewed from an angle or left or right from center?
WHEREAS THE PICTURE QUALITY IS SUPERB WHEN VIEWING STRAIGHT ON, DOES ANYONE NOTICE THAT WHEN VIEWING AT EVEN A SLIGHT ANGLE, THE IMAGE BEGINS TO FADE? I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH A PLASMA TV. I THOUGHT THAT LCD TV'S WERE CURED FROM THIS. IS IT IRRITATING TO ANYONE ELSE OR IS THERE SOMTHING WRONG WITH MY SET?
Only plasma is good at an angle but there will not be any 4K plasma tvs made because of too much power consumption for a 4K plasma.
My XBR-55X850B just went out after 5 months. I would not recommend Sony anymore.
