Excellent investment of $ and time

While the genre certainly isn't the most approachable I think the songwriting, production and engineering that went into this effort would make it an enjoyable hour for anyone who's willing to go at it with an open mind. If you're the type of person who can enjoy and respect pieces of art for what they are - even if it's not you favorite - you will not be let down with this surround sound album. While the music itself is great and should please most prog rock fanboys, it's pretty obvious that this wasn't intended to stand on its own as a musical piece without the accompaniment of some good speakers in a surround sound setup and an hour or so of time dedicated to this. If not, you will miss the artistry that earned it it's grammy nomination. It would be like listening to a Stradivarius over a telephone or trying to watch a sunset over youtube.

What's not so great: Visuals. I understand this is meant to be an audio album, but even just album art along w/ songs would be neat

On a 1-5 scale I'd like to reserve the 5s for exceptional products or exceptional value. This one gets close but without a price drop or some features that go above and beyond it's going to hover at a 4. Don't hesitate to buy this if you're looking for a monitor - I don't know that you'd find a better one for a better price.

This is my 3rd or 4th album from Steven Wilson (and/or Porcupine Tree). Perhaps I started in a different songwriting period in his life but I think this album, while very very creative, isn't quite as solid in the songwriting. It's not bad by any means, but I think it will lose a bit of it's luster if it's not played in surround. Working with this medium is definitely walking a bit of a fine line, but this will probably get relegated to an occasional "album and scotch" night in the basement rather than putting it on on a drive to work or any other casual listen.

What's great about it: Great surround sound, seems as if it'll be a very interesting listen past just the first time it's on
What's not so great: Not his best work - he could use a bit less reliance on the surround sound itself

Can I use this as a cctv?

As long as the CCTV receiver or DVR has the same inputs, any monitor should work. This does up to 1080, so yeah, as long as the outputs on your device match the inputs on the monitor you're good to go.
