Best TV Since 9G Kuro!

I set up this BEAST..and it is amazing..really brings me back to when I made the switch to HDTV about 4 years ago. Ever since then there has been a law of diminishing returns in effect with every progressive TV until now! The light output on this thing is astonishing, light is poring into my room from a slider and blacks are near perfect and the whites and colors are blazing! Night viewing or dark room viewing is even better. The black of the letter box bars blends into the bezel. Detail is as sharp as a tack. I am usually one to use sharpness for the "illusion" of detail and sharper text, but for this TV I put it up one spot to one, maybe two. Motion is very plasma like. I can safely say the color is every bit as good as the VT50..don't care what people say, especially being able to compare them within a short time frame. I have it in THX movie mode with just minor tweaks to Contrast, brightness, and the IVC on Advanced-Low, movie mode on standard and that's it, left the rest alone. It really is like looking out of a window. Earlier watched The Dark Knight here and there with select action scenes and dark scenes, flawless and amazing.
The only one advantage the VT has over this set is off-angle, but I am always in the sweet spot so its all good! The extra 5 inches is amazing and the brightness, contrast and blacks have made it well worth the extra money for me. I have favored plasma TVs ever since I got into the HDTV game. At first I waffled between LCD's and Plasmas, stuck with plasma for the last couple years. Never liked all the bugaboos that went with led tvs, the clouding, flashlighting, haloing, and the way they handled motion. This one changes everything. If you are on the fence with the ELITE and the VT50, just know this TV looks feels and handles just like a plasma. From a value stand point the VT50 has the edge, but if you want one step above it in all aspects except off angle viewing, go with the ELITE!

I picked this TV up at my local Best Buy because I wanted to jump from 65 inches to 70 inches. I thought that Sharp was producing quality large screen HDTVs, but I guess I was wrong. The size was great, but this set suffers from really light black levels, a picture that was very soft and lacked detail, color that was under-saturated, and it did not handle fast motion properly. To top it off there was allot of clouding on this tv. You will see it when there is a signal and the background is black or dark. It looks like someone is holding a flashlight in the background, washing out detail. Sharp should not have gotten away from using full array led back-lighting like they did last year. Skip this TV unless you just want size over picture quality. I can see how some who are just coming to High Def TV would like this set, but having spent time with Panasonic and Samsung flagship TVs in my house, this set falls well short. I returned it and upgraded to the SHARP ELITE 70 incher, and the difference is night and day. There should be some trickle down from the the ELITE class to the lesser sets.
What's great about it: Size
What's not so great: Light blacks, soft picture, no detail

Didnt catch this in theaters, but glad I picked it up at my local BB! The acting is top notch as well as the way it was shot. Tarintino always does a bang-up job IMO! The video and audio quality is stunning on this blu-ray, with the proper display, player and receiver, you will see and hear every detail of the film!

Amazing Speaker will impress Audiofiles!

I picked two of these up to replace my two fronts which were ProMonitor 800 by Def Tech. I moved the 800 to the surround and out these 1000 as the fronts. I can not say enough about Def Tech speakers, they blow allot of more expensive brands out of the water. Highs mids and bass are so well reproduced on these speakers, its real ear candy when paired up with a good quality receiver. They are very well made, and have a nice sleek design that lets it go unnoticed. These are amazing speakers, I suggest going down to your local BB with magnolia and comparing these to all the others in the room, and you will see the difference!

Small size, big bass! You wont be disappointed!

I have this little guy paired up with my pro800 fronts, pro600 surrounds, and procenter1000, running through a Pioneer AVR, and the bass is thundering! These subs are so small and easy to hide, but dont let size fool you, they generate massive power! Just watch a battle scene from Gladiator, or LOTR for instance and you will feel it reverberate through your chest! They work best if you run your front speakers through the back and then through the receiver, which may be a little extra wiring but well worth the hassle in IMO. They look very nice as well. Crossover works perfectly and auto on and off makes it easy and works flawlessly unlike some other brands i have had before. Get one if you can!

Best Center Channel at Best Buy!

I concur with all other previous reviewers! This speaker is the best center channel at Best Buy currently. I bought it to go with a pair of 800 bookshelf speakers also by Definitive. Voices sound crisp and true to life, like the person talking is in the room. If you are looking for a cure to your lost dialogue in movies this is the speaker for you. I would say Definitive is the best out thier for subs, satellites, bookshelf, and center channel. All the speakers in my 9.1 home theater system are from Definitive and it makes watching anything from movies to sports an amazing experience.

Great Speaker! Amazing Sound!

I picked up two of these bad boys to go along with my Definitive 600 cinema pro speaker set. I wanted bigger fronts, and have a receiver with height speaker capabilities. I have absolutely no regrets with these speakers. The five way binding posts make connection a snap. Nice compact size and style makes for a clean look as well. The sound is superb. Highs and mids sound so crisp, while bass is smooth a full of impact. They blend so well with the Difinitve subwoofer as well. These speakers replaced some Klipsch bookshelf that I had just got at best buy, and the diffrence is amazing. These are amazing for blu-rays, sporting events, gaming, and music listening. Cant say enough about these little powerhouses!

Good Picture Quality, Terrible Buzzing Sound!
By sry110 from Phoenixville, PA
I was all set up to buy the 54" Panasonic VT25 plasma and then this Samsung caught my eye. Had the chance to see both sets playing the same content side by side in the Magnolia store. Here are my thoughts on the Samsung:
Pro's:
* Overall TV design was nicer on the Samsung. The graphite grey bezel was attractive and the super slim design was eye catching. The thin clear edging (which is actually plastic, not glass) is kind of played out, but it looked ok on this set.
* Swivel tv stand is a nice feature
* This set can convert all content to 3D which is kind of neat, however keep in mind that it does not come with any sets of 3d glasses, as opposed to the Panasonic which comes with one. I watched some 2D content converted to 3D and it was ok, but not anywhere near as good as the Panasonic with a true HD 3D source.
* The remote control is very nice, a work of art.
* The TV seemed to have a lot of features but I unfortunately never got a chance to play around with everything.
* It has a "motion dejuddering" mode which is basically the same as Motion Flow that a lot of LCD sets have. Kind of neat when watching sports or anything where you want to feel like you are right there in person.
* Attractive pricing- at the time, the 58" samsung was on sale for $300 less than the 54" panasonic.
Cons:
* Noticed a good bit of line bleed when there were menus on the screen, especially when there was high contrast between the menu and the background.
* BUZZING! This is the reason I can only give the tv 2 stars and why I ultimately returned it and got the 54" panasonic that I wanted originally. All plasma tv's supposedly emit some buzzing sound, to some extent, at some distance, but this one buzzed so bad that I could hear it from 20 feet away. Even in low light scenes, where the contrast and brightness were very low, it made a very distracting buzzing sound. The only way to drown out the buzzing was to crank the tv volume up above 20, which was too loud for us for watching normal programming (news, sitcoms, etc.). Buzzing would get more intense as scenese got brighter, but when I went into the menu and adjusted the brightness to the minimum setting, it still buzzed like crazy. It might have something to do with the super slim panel, but I would rather have a thicker panel and no buzzing.
Unfortunately despite all the TV's strengths, I cannot recommend it to anyone due to the buzzing, and the reports I have read from other owners saying the same thing, meaning that it's not a fluke occurrence on my set only. Sorry Samsung, you had all the complaints from people regarding buzzing on last year's sets and you missed the mark again. Back to the drawing board!

BUZZZZZZZ
June 28, 2010
Yeah, seams like all the samsung plasmas from this year and last year buzz to a certain degree. I have the pn63c550, pn63b590, and the pn58c8000, and they all buz. Its doesnt bother me though, all are hooked up to some kind of surround sound system so that kind of overpowers the buzz. Dont let a little buzz get in the way of you getting this tv, it is great!

what is the correct screen size for room size

all depends on your viewing distance. the bigger the tv the farther back you will have to sit in order to not see pixelation, with a smaller tv you will be able to sit closer, but you will lose the impact you get from a large screen

what's the best refresh rate?

I'm looking for a 3D-ready HDTV that I can watch movies on & play video games. What's the best, 120Hz, 240Hz, or 600Hz?
Go with this years samsung pn63c8000 plasma, or the step down pn63c7000, both have 600Hz subfield drive which makes everthing you watch smooth, both are 3d, but the 8000 series has motion dejudder processing which makes everything film based ultra smooth.

what does satellite speakers mean, are they wireless?

they can be wireless, i think rocket fish has a whole wireless system, but satellite usualy means speakers used for surround sound. You would have them on either side of you, and for 7.1 systems in back of you for complete wrap around sound. They are like a satellite, out in orbit around the room.

Surround Sound for the TV

I recently brought a 42" Samsung flat plasma TV and a Samsung Surround Sound, I have a HDMI Cable running from my reciever to the TV and a HDMI Cable from the Cable reciever to the TV, how do I get the audio to work on my surround sound when Im watching a TV show.
You need to run the hdmi from your cable box to your receiver, then if your receiver has a monitor out hdmi slot, you run an hdmi from that to your tv. not sure what features your AVR has, but that is the simple way with hdmi ready AVR's

wat the best tv for under $1500

I would go for a samsung lcd with 120hz blur reduction, or the new TOSHIBA REGZA with 240hz blur reduction. I am partial to the samys myself.
