First of all I am a long time OtterBox consumer. That being said I was very disappointed with the otter defender case. Returned it the very same day. I watched the video from Griffin regarding the very strong Survivor Case. Went to my local Best Buy and picked one up. First of all the case is nearly the same thickness of the Otter. However it has the built in screen protector as the original defender case of the iphones. It is very well glued or plastic welded to the case. The inner hard plastic case snaps on very well around the Ipad2. The out side rubber case is much more dense the Otter. The flaps that cover all the ports close and stay closed un-like the otter defender for the ipad 2. The case is very flat on the front. Easy to use. The screen works great with the cover over it. The back side has a pattern on the case that makes holding it long ways or horizontal very easy. The corners are very padded and instantly give you the feel of quality and protection towards drops.
I am a outdoors photographer and I feel very confident that the military specs on this case are accurate. The added value of being on average of ten dollars less then the Otter. It's a no brainer. Does it cover the rear camera? yes but the flap opens up. Does it cover the speaker at the bottom? yes but it opens up. Does it protect the charge port? yes and the cover is easy to access. The sound rockers are covered with a molded section and work very well. The landscape/mute slide is behind a flap. But tucks away nicely. This case was extremely well planned and manufactured. The stand that comes with it clips on the back and it's nice if you use them.
Best advice prior to installing is to not touch the back of the clear screen protector. Wipe with a soft cloth the entire Ipad 2. Nothing worse then putting the case on all the way to realize one finger smudge.
I am now searching for the IPhone 4 case from Griffin with the same specs.
What's great about it: Very well designed.
What's not so great: I did not get one sooner.
I would recommend this to a friend!
