Practical running earbuds
on July 20, 2017

I'm not usually into in-ear style headphones, but I've had good luck with headphones that hook over the ear, so I gave these a shot.
I was really surprised how well these lock onto/into my ears once they twist backwards into place. They come with a really good selection of different sized ear plugs (that's not always the case), and clips to take up the slack of the cable that goes behind the neck.
My only two negative experiences were phone call quality and comfort over time. When I get a call, I would have to speak somewhat loudly for the caller to hear me clearly. I also tried wearing them throughout my workday, and I noticed that after 2 hours, my ears would start to get really uncomfortable.
Otherwise, I really enjoy these headphones.

Great sound, great battery
on July 20, 2017

This is a cool, rugged, long-lasting speaker. I used it for most of a Saturday out in my shop and I didn't even need to turn it all the way up. The volume is great, reasonably light for its size, and I swear that battery can go for days. I hadn't used it for like a week, checked the battery level indicator and only one of the five lights were off. The bass sounds a lot better indoors, but otherwise, I really love this portable speaker.

Listen to music hands-free with this LG wireless headset. It lets you answer or ignore a call with voice commands, and the wireless earbuds charge when they're resting inside the neckband, ensuring they're ready for use. The neckband of this LG wireless headset provides vibration alerts for incoming calls and texts, so you'll never miss a message.

Works great for what I need
on June 10, 2017

I've avoided ear bud style headphones for a while because they've just never been comfortable, but I wanted new bluetooth headphones for work, so I gave these a shot.
When I first put them in, I thought the sound quality was pretty bad, but it was because I had them at the wrong angle; they were pointed forward, but when I angled them mostly vertical, bass and treble both got WAY better.
Pros:
- TINY! After a short time of wearing them, I don't even notice them in my ears anymore.
- Even though they aren't technically "noise cancelling", they are seated so far into your ear canals that they block A LOT of external noise anyway.
- Reasonably good sound quality; they don't do an incredible job at giving the user an amazing listening experience, but they aren't terrible either. Above average, I guess.
- I love being able to leave the neckband horseshoe(?) behind and just having the tiny earbuds to deal with.
- If the earbuds are in the neckband and there's a phone call, it will auto answer if you take one out to put it in your ear.
- I don't have to turn it on, when I detach the earbud from the band, it turns on all on its own.
Cons:
- The buds can slowly slide out of my ears, especially if it's a warm day. But as long as I notice in time, I can just push them back in and I'm good to go.
- A little longer battery life would be nice. I know that's a lot to ask for such tiny devices, but my last headphones would usually last me all day where these little guys get me until lunch. But I just clip them back into the neckband during lunch, they recharge, and I'm good for the rest of my shift.
- The neckband is not comfortable when worn during a run. Just leave it at home.
- I would have liked a volume control on the headphones instead of having to control it from my phone.
- The play/pause doesn't always work from the earbud. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what, but 80% of the time, it's great.

Clear, comfortable, but not great for spoken word
on April 28, 2017
Posted by: AgentC
When I first tried these out, I was really amazed by the clarity. Daft Punk's "Lose Yourself to Dance" had so many layers of instruments I hadn't noticed before, and Micheal Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" is gorgeous. I made it through two songs before I had to have my wife hear what I was hearing. There's an optional app that works with the headphones to let you change the sound field you're hearing (large hall, stadium, club), but for me, the differences were pretty minimal, so I haven't changed the sound beyond the first day I tried the app.
I listen to a lot of podcasts, and I immediately noticed that the headphones emphasize the bass in everyone's voices, and even with the bass boost off, it's just something you have to deal with.
I REALLY love that there's an optional headphone cable for them too, because if I'm editing video or making music on my phone, having any kind of delay in the audio makes for a really annoying experience.
Phone calls are really clear and easy to answer and end, and they block out a lot of external noise too. I wore them while mowing a 1/4 acre of land and even though I could hear the lawnmower, it didn't keep me from enjoying everything I heard in the Sonys.
Overall, I love them. And if I could turn down the bass a little more sometimes, they would be near perfect.

Really maneuverable, strong little vacuum
on April 28, 2017
Posted by: AgentC
This is probably the most maneuverable vacuum I've ever used. The handle can almost lie flat on the ground to get under some furniture, or the motor pops off and then it can get under pretty much everything else.
Pros:
Strong suction
The switch to change floor type is right under your thumb on the handle
The vacuum head swivels almost 180 degrees
Easy to see if it's time to empty the dirt bin
Easy-access hose extension
Turbine accessory spins really fast and is great on somewhat firm cushions
Does great on hard floors
Cons:
The front roller will suck in ANYTHING loose on the ground without hesitation (cords, long curtains, clothing)
Two of the really unique accessories it comes with does not have a place to keep them on the vacuum itself, so if you want to use them you have to get them out of the accessory bag
The foam filter after dust bin gets dirty real quickly, which makes me think the vacuum isn't the most effective at filtering out the tiniest dust and pollen particles

VERY easy start to home security cameras
on February 9, 2017
Posted by: AgentC
I coincidentally installed this in my home a week before my aunt had her home robbed. They took everything of worth, but what I would have never thought of was that they made sure to cut the network cables to her modem and router, maybe to prevent any security system from recording them. Obviously, that caused me to be much more active in using my new system.
Having said that, here's what I LOVE about this system:
- EASY setup. Connect it to the router, go through some prompts in the app, set the cameras wherever because they are BATTERY POWERED!!
- The cameras have rechargeable batteries (did I say that already?) that last a very long time when not in active use (like when you're home)
- The night vision is great
- The resolution and sound quality is great
- The wall mounts are tiny and the cameras stick to them with magnets. MAGNETS! So if you want to quickly move a camera from the wall to the window to keep an eye out for that delivery man, there's nothing to it.
- When the system is activated, any time a camera sees or hears anything (your choice), you get a notification on your phone.
- It works with IFTTT.com
- There are also USB ports on the base that lets you store video and photos locally instead of in the cloud, so if thieves break in and cut your internet, as long as there's still power and your system is active, you're getting all the video of those thieving faces.
Really, the only reasons I don't give this a full 5 star rating is strictly because of
1. the number of steps it takes to arm and disarm the system. It isn't much, only like 3 or 4 steps in the app, but I want to be walking out of the house and hit one button after opening the app and be done or have it as a widget. I want turning on a watchful eye in my home to be more like a reflex than an active process I stop and do.
and 2. there was a short time initially during the setup where one of the cameras wouldn't stay connected. I saw that others online had had that issue too, but after resetting it and trying again, it worked and I haven't had that problem again.
Otherwise, I can't wait to get more cameras and link it up to IFTTT.com too. (oh, I said that already too?)

Feature and function packed router
on May 22, 2016
Posted by: AgentC
It's a much larger router than any of the standard, run-of-the-mill wireless routers most people have experience with, but it's also not a run-of-the-mill router at all. Even though my internet speeds don't come anywhere close to the 5 gigabit speeds it's capable off, just replacing my previous router with this one seemed to add an average of 5 to 10 mb/s, occasionally bringing my internet speeds slightly faster than the plan I'm paying for, which is nice. I don't know if this will happen for everyone, but it was a nice bonus. Otherwise, here's my likes and features that leave room for improvement after a month of use:
LIKES-
Improved internet speeds: faster is always better.
8 ethernet ports on the back: all of my internet connected devices in my TV stand are now connected to the router, leaving more wireless signal for all the other goodies, like phones, laptops, etc.
5 gigabit network speeds: this means when I want to stream a video from my laptop to my apple tv, or send large files to my networked hard drive, there's almost no hesitation. Awesome.
Optional setup through an app: for some, typing in an IP address may already feel too technical, so setting up the router on a phone or tablet is pretty convenient.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT-
Wifi range: it's definitely better, but with 8 large antennas surrounding the unit, I would have expected a much further distance of coverage than my previous unit. It's still good, but it didn't quite meet my expectations.
Only one USB 3.0 port: as packed with features as it is, I would have thought both USBs would have been 3.0, but only one is. It would have just been a nice extra "future proofing" add on is all.
Option to wall mount: of course not necessary, but it would have been nice. Because it's such a large unit, shelf space might be a challenge and being able to mount it to a wall would have been a nice option, but I made due.
Overall, great device with a lot of potential for a great home network.

Good looking, not great with credit cards
on March 6, 2014
Posted by: AgentC
from Nashville, TN
I like how small it shreds paper down. There's a pause between inserting paper and the machine pulling it down. My main disappointment was that I had been expecting the credit card slot to basically destroy the plastic card I fed it, but all it does is cut it in half. Since I'm not cutting down credit cards everyday, it's not a major issue, but it's there.
Otherwise, it's a good looking machine.

What's great about it: Shreds down to tiny confetti pieces
What's not so great: Cuts plastic cards in half, expected more

Good for the price, but you pay for what you get.
on March 14, 2012
Posted by: AgentC
from Nashville, TN
My wife wanted to start juicing fruits and vegetables more, so at first we tried this Breville Juicer because I could buy it locally and have it that day. It juiced quickly, had a wide input spout that could fit a whole apple, and only had a few large pieces that had to be cleaned. Since it's a centrifugal juicer, it gets kind of loud when it's running. It works great with soft fruits like kiwis, but hard produce like carrots always tend to get thrown past the strainer at the last inch, and berries and leafy things like spinach has to be sandwiched between other produce if there's any hope. The end result with the juice that it made was good, though slightly thick and a little gritty/pulpy.
We decided to try something completely different and give the Omega 8003 juicer a try that I found on Amazon. First thing I noticed when I turned it on is that I can hold a conversation while it's running. It's a low to medium hum that's produced while on, and that was a nice change when we juice at night because before I was always concerned about the neighbors. The input tube is much smaller (only about an inch and a half), so most everything has to be cut into pieces first, which means that initial prep does take a little longer. Interestingly, the juicing is opposite with this one when it comes to the type of produce: carrots, apples, sweet potatoes, and the like are juiced incredibly well, and so is spinach. But kiwis just get pumped right through the system, with almost no juice at all. But the first time I tried the juice that I got out of my mixture, I was really surprised; the juice is much more flavorful than the Breville made, and with significantly less thickness/pulp. The cleanup was also basically the same amount of parts, but they were all much smaller and easier to handle.
So here's the pros and cons of each.
Breville BJE200XL 700-Watt Compact Juice Fountain
PROS:
- Fast process
- Little to no food prep before juicing (large opening for produce to be dropped in)
- Effective juicing of soft fruits
CONS:
- "Thicker" juice
- Larger parts to clean
- Not great at juicing the entire harder produce (i.e., carrots)
- Kind of loud
- Need to scrub the straining screen pretty thoroughly
- Produce waste has to be scraped out of container (tool comes with juicer)
- Practically spits out berries and leafy greens
Omega J8003 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Commercial Masticating Juicer, White
PROS:
- Smaller parts to clean
- VERY flavorful juice
- Well strained juice from pulp
- Quieter than expected
- Juices harder produce very well
- Easy to dispose of produce waste
- Very effective with leafy greens (spinach)
- Ok with berries
CONS:
- Have to prep food first to fit in smaller input hole
- Not great at juicing softer fruits (i.e., kiwi)
- Takes somewhat longer overall during the entire juicing process
What's great about it: Juices fast, and you can drop in a whole apple at once
What's not so great: Kind of loud, juice is a little thick

Works like it should
on November 29, 2011

I had been considering a few other Kinect TV mounts that bolt to the back of flat screens, and when I had almost made up my mind, I saw this one, and I don't regret it. It's a small package, it's easy to adjust, and it only took three or four different test fits on my Sony TV to get the Kinect sensor to sit level and solid.
I would question it's usefulness on a TV that's mounted to a wall and is moved and readjusted all the time, but for one that doesn't ever move, this is a great mount for the price, size, and setup.
What's great about it: Easy setup, reasonable price
What's not so great: Does not physically bolt to the TV

Is there a sound delay when streaming videos? This happens on the powerbeats and is annoying.

You're gonna deal with that with most bluetooth headphones/speakers. Some of the newest models are getting better at it, but regardless, there's always going to be a somewhat noticeable delay. You'll notice it with music making apps too like Garageband; it's near impossible to play music along with a beat because the beat is slightly delayed so what you play is gonna be off.
If you want zero delay, you have to be hardwired.
