a great 3rd installment

This was one of my favorite films of 2010. My inner child can't help but fall in love with the characters, and the animation is as impressive as ever. The story is fun yet very poignant and I actually teared up near end. I also think it does a great job in presenting the theme of acceptance of change and moving on to an all-ages audience.

I'm amazed at how Pixar can consistently put out quality films year after year. They do a really good job of getting you to fall in love with such memorable characters. Although there are quite a few emotional scenes that got me teary-eyed (whether they were sad or heartwarming), it still has a good mix of action and humor. The animation itself was stunning and vibrant, and I highly recommend watching it in digital 3-D. Oh, and I thought Partly Cloudy, the animated short that comes with it, was adorable!

another Pixar masterpiece

This is probably one of the sweetest movies I've ever seen. Amazing cgi with an excellent soundtrack. Many funny parts, too. I loved that there is very little actual dialogue and most of the emotion is left up to the "acting." The animators definitely deserve to be commended.

a timeless classic

Some of the really great romantic films (like Casablanca) aren't just about wild, passionate love, but also about fleeting love or a love that isn't allowed to exist. There's a reason why, even though many of you haven't actually seen the film, you are at least familiar with the plot, or have heard one of it's many famous quotes. This is just one of those classic films that is able to stand the test of time because of a great story and excellent acting. I highly recommend it to any cinema-lover.

I can't believe I was able to get through the whole thing. At 3 hour, 58 minutes, this is the longest film I've ever seen and one of the few that actually had an intermission. Yeah, that is a long running time, but in my opinion every minute was essential. There were very few moments that dragged. I was surprised at how much soap opera the film contained. So many emotions and events happen in the story; how could you not find the film engaging? I was also amazed at the quality of the acting and direction of a film from 1939. It really deserves the 8 Oscars it earned that year. Obviously, if you don't like melodramas or have the patience to watch something for 4 hours, this may not be the movie for you. Otherwise, everyone should take the chance to see this sometime in their life.

a work of art

This is one of those movies you'll either love or hate, and you definitely have to be in the right mood for it. Most moviegoers will find themselves incredibly bored and disappointedly say "nothing happened." But if you're the kind of person who loves mood pieces and wonderfully crafted films, then you'll definitely enjoy Lost in Translation. This movie is about 2 lonely and isolated people who end up finding each other and forming a strong bond (some might say love). Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson give amazing performances as the two characters, Bob and Charlotte. They were able to portray the sadness of each character quite effectively. I also have to give kudos to Sofia Coppola, the writer/director, for telling such a moving piece and the cinematographer for his use of backgrounds and unique shots to enhance the film.

One of the most highly acclaimed films of 2000, Wong Kar-Wai's stylish romantic drama In the Mood for Love is given the Criterion Collection treatment, giving viewers hours of sublime pleasure. The two-disc set is definitive in many ways, although it does not contain a director's commentary track. Nevertheless, this is by far the most complete and fascinating DVD treatment given to a Wong Kar-Wai film. Disc one presents the film in a stunning new digital letterboxed transfer (1.66:1 enhanced) with a Dolby Digital 5.0 soundtrack in its original Cantonese and Shanghainese with optional English subtitles. The picture is luminous, sharp, and beautifully clear, perfectly showing off Christopher Doyle's and Mark Li Ping-Bin's memorable cinematography. Also available on the disc are numerous deleted scenes with optional director's commentary, a separate music-only track that highlights Michael Galasso's unforgettable score, and an early short film by Wong Kar-Wai. Disc two contains the meat of the supplemental material, of course. The major extra is a consistently fascinating documentary on all aspects of the film's production -- from the earliest stages of pre-production to the final result -- and should more than reward up-and-coming filmmakers as well as people with only a casual interest in what goes on behind the cameras. Also included is an interesting interview with the director, interviews with stars Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung from their Toronto International Film Festival press conference, trailers, electronic press skits, essays, and much more.

Asian cinema at its finest

This Chinese movie has made the top 10 list of many movie critics, and after watching it, it's not hard to see why. Nearly everything was excellent. The acting, the script, the direction, the cinematography, and so on. It's like watching a painting in motion. I especially have to give props to the two lead actors, Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. Both are superb actors, although Maggie really stole the show. I love when actors can convey emotions and thoughts without any words spoken. Concerning the director, Wong Kar Wai, I really can't say any more good things about him. He is a master of romantic films.

An impressive, suspenseful sci-thriller with great visuals and a solid cast. Danny Boyle definitely brings his A-game.
