Cell phone use in Afghanistan
My son recently purchased a Blackberry Storm from Verizon and got a plan where he was supposed to be able to have unlimited internet and unlimited texting for a certain price. When he got to Afghanistan he was unable to access the internet and the only way he could text, he would be charged everytime he sent or received a text. The Verizon people said there was no guarantee he would have service, after he purchased the phone of course. If he had a phone that was unlocked and kept the plan with Verizon, would he be able to use that phone to access the internet and send text with the plan selected through Verizon?
The answer is no, what he should have done, is bought an unlocked phone and once in afghanistan, bought a prepaid cell phone, take the sim card from the prepaid cell and put it in the unlocked phone. He would acess the internet and text for less the $100.00 for the phone, text and data plans.
