Useful and effective, but bulky and awkward
on September 25, 2019

Platinum - Dual USB-C-to-8-Port Hub for select Apple MacBook Laptops - Space Gray offers a must-have add-on after Apple removed all inputs on the MacBook Pro, but 2 USB-C ports. This product provides the essential options of USB-A (2), HDMI (1), Ethernet (1), 2 USB-C inputs (2 - one for data transfers, one for power), SD Card (1), and Micro SD Card (1). This is all accomplished via a dual USB-C plug.
I found this product a necessary addition to any MacBook Pro 2017 or newer owner. I also found this product to be exceptionally bulky and awkward to use. Unless you are on a hard surface and plan to use your computer for presentations or a desktop alternative, this product seems in the way and far to big for the sleek MacBook Pro! Outside of this unfortunate aspect, it is still a necessary product.
PROS
- Absolutely needed to provide the missing inputs for the new generation of MacBook Pros.
- Added 8 inputs to the 2 input ports
CONS
- Incredibly bulky compared to the size of the MacBook Pro. The plug extends above and below the edge of the computer making it awkward and a place to catch your fingers on.
- The bulky size is complicated with a stiff cord about 3" long adds to the odd size and spreads out the operation of your MacBook Pro with this product now about 5-8" to the left of your computer.
A necessary product for real users, but just expect the bulkiness to be unsightly and awkward. I believe Platinum really missed on the size of this, while making a needed product.

Has potential to be helpful, but odd!
on September 25, 2019

The Upright - GO 2™ Posture Trainer - White offers a unique way of assisting the user by sending warnings through vibrations when their posture is less than ideal.
I found this to be an odd experience and not necessarily practical for everyday use. The placement and way it attaches to the wearer is odd, but it is effective in notifying when posture is failing.
PROS
- Effective notifications
- Sleek design
- Easy to setup and use
CONS
- Practicality for everyday use is questionable.
- Wearability and attachment is odd and distracting.
Overall, this product has its place and audience. It is recommended for anyone wishing to have active help in improving their posture. It was just an odd experience for me.

Lightweight with power and features!
on August 27, 2019
Posted by: IronHorseGPS
from Pacific Beach, WA
The Shark APEX UpLight Lift-Away DuoClean - LZ602 is a lightweight in the corded vacuum market but is packed with power and features which rival the competition.
I was please to discover that this was not just another cookie-cutter vacuum marketed for the masses but cheap and worthless. This Shark comes out of the box and assembles in 2 mins flat without the needs for tools or complicated manuals. As I usually do, I ran my old vacuum first and then used the Shark to play clean-up to see if it is any better or just makes noise. The proof is in the pictures as this unit not only picked up a normal carpet by itself, but got everything the old one missed.
PROS
- The growing trust and quality of the Shark name
- Lightweight, portable
- Long, heavy duty power cord limits the need to change plugs throughout a room or area.
- Quick assembly, easy for nearly anyone
- Stand up feature ensure it does not topple over, yet retracts when in use
- Loaded with features one would expect from a modern vacuum, even a few only found on more expensive units
- Excellent clean up, suction, and power
- Great on carpet or hard/bare floors!
CONS
- Concerned with the plastic stand-up legs. Will they hold up over time?
- The collection bin seems a too small for this to be a true vacuum replacement. It is more for touch ups and spot jobs in an upstairs closet.

Tiny Package, Big Performance!
on August 21, 2019
Posted by: IronHorseGPS
from Pacific Beach, WA
The WD - My Passport for Mac 2TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive with Hardware Encryption (Latest Model) - Blue is a tiny package of serious external storage. 2TBs of storage on the go with easy plug and play access via USB and USB-C.
Out of the package this tiny giant was recognized by my MacBook Pro (Late 2013), installed, and was ready to transfer and backup my HD. I was honestly not sure if this was going to be SSD or traditional HD. It is so small, that I was surprised to find it vibrate slightly as the drive revved up. Another surprise is the metal casing as other variations I have used in the past are plastic. I am a musician and photographer so I have many files and RAW photos that bog down my laptop, but this is a great companion for my work with tons of storage. The price point is spot on for this size and storage!
PROS
- WD quality and brand!
- Tiny footprint
- Accessibility (USB and USB-C connectivity for quick and seamless data transmission)
- Portability, small/light enough to go anywhere you go
- Metal casing
- Cables included
- Price/Size/Storage
CONS
- The vibration was a bit odd for the size. Really wish this was SSD, but for the price/size/storage, one can't knock it too hard!

HD Video Surveillance and On-the-go Monitoring
on July 31, 2019
Posted by: IronHorseGPS

The Defender - 4K Security System 4-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 2160p 1TB DVR Surveillance System - Black/White provide High Quality/High Definition video monitoring for security and peace of mind. The system include 4 HD cameras, 1TB DVR, and all the necessary accessories to secure your home or business. Add-on cameras expand your viewing coverage as needed.
I found this system to be a bit frustrating as setup took a bit longer than the advertised 20 minutes. Due to size of my home, the wired connections were cumbersome compared to my previous wireless security camera system. Once setup, the quality and accessibility makes up for the set up frustrations. An abundance of DVR storage ensures there will never be a lost moment when you need it to secure your property. The save storage makes the stored video accessible for reporting suspicious activities or crimes to authorities. The quality of the video content seems good and clear unlike other systems. The smartphone app makes viewing and monitoring a breeze.
PROS
- HD video and recording
- Large DVR hard drive
- Weather resistant/proof cameras are usable in most places or weather
CONS
- The wired setup is frustrating depending on where you setup your system. I prefer the convenience and setup of wireless systems, although it is a trade off for quality verse convenience.

Printing Speed and Quality - in B&W
on July 31, 2019

from Pacific Beach, WA
The HP - LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw Black-and-White All-In-One Printer is an excellent everyday home or small business Laser Printer for those who do not need Color copies. This AIO Printer offers copy, scan, FAX, Scan to email, Wi-Fi & NFC accessibility and more. The speed of prints is commendable and the output quality is sharp.
I found this printer to meet my basic home office needs and was pleasantly surprised by the speed of which the copies are produced. The Airprint/WiFi printing is quick and easy to set up, as are most of the other features. The display is touch responsive and easy to navigate. Auto-duplexing is a must feature for any office setting and this unit came to play. Quick and accurate duplexing has increase productivity by eliminating the need to juggle paper and reloading for the second side.
PROS
- HP Quality and Brand
- Easy set up
- Connectivity for any need
- Display screen is easy to view and use
- Fast printing and output
- Auto-Duplexing
- Sleek and compact compared to other products
CONS
- Only complaint is the lack of Color, but this is not designed for this so no marks against it. If you need color, you will want to look at other units, but this make a great B&W option.

Legit Gaming Mouse without the Gaming Price!
on July 31, 2019
Posted by: IronHorseGPS
from Pacific Beach, WA
Logitech - G403 (Hero) Wired Optical Gaming Mouse - Black is a great iteration of gaming on a budget. This mouse sports an LED light "G" and scroll wheel giving it the cool gamer look while offering many necessities to make it a legit gaming mouse.
I found this mouse comparable to similar, high-cost, gaming mouse that I have used. This one was a simple plug-n-play setup without the need for software or downloads to make it work. The style looks great, while the design makes it comfortable for hours of use. The quick access buttons offer page forward or back options with a flick of your thumb and the center button adjusts the speed of the mouse movement on the fly for customization and detailed work. The braided cord makes for a smooth glide on any surface without bunching up or sticking, thus affecting the use.
I was overall impressed with this mouse and have actually replaced my wireless mouse by the same maker for this one at work due to the comfort and options.
PROS
- Gaming mouse on a budget
- Logitech name and quality
- LED accents look great
- Braided cord
- Multi-use buttons provide quick access for functions
- Accurate!
CONS
- None at this point.

Quality TV at a budget price!
on July 16, 2019
Posted by: IronHorseGPS
from Pacific Beach, WA
The Hisense - 50" Class - LED - H8F Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR provides many of the high-end feature of other brand TVs at a budget price that most can afford. Crystal clear video, surprisingly loud audio, and minimal bezel makes this a great centerpiece for any TV viewing home or office.
I was reluctant to get a Hisense based on the limited exposure I have had to the brand and it not being part of the big 5 line up. I was pleasantly surprised by the feature-rich options of this TV and the overall quality of Video and Audio it produced. The added Smart TV functions make this an extremely affordable option for the mases who do not want to sacrifice quality or options be can't/won't spring for the "big name" brands. My only issue that I have not yet resolved is the HDMI (ARC) audio feature for our soundbar. It worked initially, but has since stopped working. We cannot get it to register with the TV any more and the ARC audio is greyed out as an option.
PROS
- High quality video and audio at a budget price
- Minimal bezel with maximum viewing angles and size
- ULED 4k live up to their promise
- Smart features are responsive and complement the TV well for most people
- Solid 4-foot stand makes this TV secure whereever it sits
CONS
- HDMI (ARC) Audio stopped working after the first 10 minutes of use and has not been working since. Still trying to resolve this issue - need to contact the manufacturer for assistance, but have not had time yet. This may or may not be indicitive of a problem or flaw in the TV.

Bose and Alexa (and Goggle) - Perfect Combo!
on July 16, 2019
Posted by: IronHorseGPS
from Pacific Beach, WA
The Bose® - Home Speaker 300 with Built-In Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant Voice Control (mine is black) is a hit out of the box! It set up in minutes and was pumping out the tunes a few moments later. The sound quality is on par for Bose and the addition of the assistants make this a perfect combo for any home or office!
Some people seemed to have firmware update issues, however, I did not. My speaker updated and was working out of the box and without a hitch. I find the speaker to be solid in sound quality and clarity. The Assistant (Alexa in my case) is responsive and mostly accurate. I found this to be a perfect addition to my office space for music ambience or to stream from my phone.
PROS
- Bose quality
- Quick install and setup
- Sleek design blends into any space.
- Sound quality is on par for Bose products despite the size
- Connectivity via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth makes it user-friendly and relevant to current and future technologies
- Alexa and Google Assistant are easy to use and responsive
CONS
- Cannot use Alexa and Google at the same time. Choose one or the other.

NOT what the hype makes it out to be!
By DrHedrick from Western Washington
So far, after about 5 days, I am somewhat disappointed with the Galaxy S6. The battery life sucks compared to the Note 2 I am switching from. It is very laggy and definitely not "snappy" as per the many claims. Sometimes it must be restarted to be able to use it as the fingerprint unlock and alternate keyboard unlock do not work and the phone blacks out after 3 seconds. Only 32GB available onboard and I have the over half-way filled at this point and no way to expand it with a sealed phone. The fingerprint scanner is fair, but useless while driving. Hard to navigate or find previously easy to use settings. Notifications are frustrating since they all are OFF out of the box.
As a somewhat power user, I wish I had opted for the Note 4/Edge instead of settling for the S6.
The few Pros I can offer are the following...
1. The screen and clarity is amazing
2. The pictures and videos are equally amazing
3. Smaller and lighter than the Note series
4. Interesting new features, although I have not had time to fully explore them.
There are better options available if you can afford them... ie- Galaxy Note series!

A Great Idea crippled by horrible App
By OmieOne from East Stroudsburg, PA
This is a great idea. Three routers with a backhaul over Mu-MIMO. In theory could get good coverage for a house and for the people who get this to work I'm sure it is a great product. I have wasted over 3 hours over two days trying to get this router to work. I can only get one Node configured. The other two nodes won't connect event when I place the nodes right next to each other, I still get errors like out of range.
My experience has been very poor. Please note to setup and administrator this router IT REQUIRES and IOS or ANDROID DEVICE. This app is not in the Amazon store. I have a few of the cheaper Amazon tablets and figured while I wait for my new Android phone I could use that or worse case like EVERY OTHER ROUTER ON THE MARKET I could hardwire or connect to default wireless network and setup the routers via a web page. No. If you try Linksys Mocks you and tells you must use an app. I had to borrow an android phone to setup this up to test. I should have stopped there. I don’t mind apps and it would be fine if the app was useful. But it isn't. It was written under the assumption you would not have a problem, but the number of times I've tried to add Nodes to this and got told, hey you'll need a plug etc. It takes like 5 clicks to start the add a node process. Not ideal, esp. if you notice someone keeps trying stop making me over click. Seeing it say Uh-Oh press the red reset button and have it not really fix the issue just induces rage, or when it says it is setting up and just hangs, no good.
Also, when the nodes don't connect there is no useful information. The Linksys Range extender I have gave me more information via the web page then this app on if they are two far or close.
Additionally, I've tried resetting the system, via the reset button, but I have no idea if that is working since I can't connect to the router except via the app and it doesn't tell me if it is back to default connection. Additionally, this app connects to your Velop via an Internet cloud connection. It is faster when your connected via wireless to the node, but still have that little cloud connection, and I'm not a fan of having to connect to a Cloud service that I can't two factor protect and won't use the full keyboard of symbols forcing me to use an extra-long password to protect my router.
This setup experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth and crippled what could be a good idea. The single router when it was working I checked my phone, and I know it is using both 5Gz and 2.4Gz still have me a strong signal throughout my house and only needs one. But I was looking forward to using this to extend some LAN ports to a few places and saving me a few 50ft. cords I have in the house. With the backhaul it would have been able to cover the data my switches have.
Other cons no USB ports so if you have a printer or USB HDD on your current router, you'll need to consider other options if you go with this.
I really wanted to like it, but not providing a customer with additional tools or an easy way via the app to reset or control the router is frustrating. I know my next step is to try this weekend to contact customer service open a case and see if they can fix it. But even if they get it working, the fact that I must use an Android App, and can’t use a desktop to manage it, makes me worry what will happen if it goes wrong or worse since it is app only what will happen when someone finds a vulnerability in the cloud service Linksys uses to connect back to the routers and start messing with them. I wish they would at least have some form of two factor and allow for more complex passwords, or at the very least once the initial setup is done disable the external web connection cloud service and only allow the app to work when I’m locally connected.
For everyone who got this to work I’m sure this will be the product, just hope you don’t have an issue that requires troubleshooting.
On the one working node I did test the speed and it seemed over wireless my EA9500 was more consistent and a bit faster from the same source and destination for a large file copy, but the Velop was close enough that most people wouldn’t notice anything. I also tested the single working node with some online gaming, both in the other Ethernet slot and wireless and I didn’t notice any performance impact. Since I can’t get all the nodes I have tested true load to report, but I’m sure others who have it working will, and I’m sure once I work with Linksys support I can get this system working it will be fine and provide me with spotless coverage. Just the whole having to use an app, and what I feel a limited and poorly designed app, and have it forced down on us with no backup connection has left a sour feeling and makes me worry about what will happen in the future if these devices go wonky, I won’t be able to troubleshoot, reset/fix as quickly as I could in the past and to be fair to Linksys this is a new product just out and they may fix the app and hopefully add other versions or allow access to the web service locally to manage them. Just know that if you are looking for a mesh like network this isn’t a bad router, but it seems to be crippled by an over simplified app, that is limited to two platforms and requires Internet connectivity to full function.

Need to connect Ethernet multi-port Hub to Google Home WiFi. This to allow me to connect SmartThings & Philips hubs which communicate with their smart devices. I also need a 2nd port to connect to the router. So are there 2 ports the Google WiFi home?

Here is a picture of the bottom of one of the pods.

Create a reliable internet connection throughout your home with this Google Wi-Fi system. The convenient package of three connectivity points effortlessly covers even large homes up to 4,500 square feet. This Google Wi-Fi system eliminates uneven bandwidth usage among multiple devices, including cellphones and tablets, for an unimpeded connection that doesn't lag behind.

I need this for my 16 year old grand daughter..she uses more wifi in one day than I do in a month..basically needed for her phone. Can this be used for only one item???

Yes, this item would work fine for most wifi needs.

It is fast and can handle just about anything you can throw at it in the means of download and upload speeds.

Remember, there is a big difference between wifi speed and internet bandwidth. These wifi access points will facilitate effective connection, but if your grand daughter is eating up all your data and bandwidth, you will need to contact your provider to increase this.

what kind tv stand is available and where to purchase?

Watching 1080p on 4K - is the picture clear?

I have read numerous tech reviews which state that when viewing 1080p content on this P602UI 4k set the picture can be blurry. Is this in fact true? I ordered this set and wondering if I made a mistake because most everything is and will be 1080p for a long while. Wondering if I should order 1080 tv instead. Thanks for answering.
I have the P-Series - 55" Class (60" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HDTV and the 1080p content is sharp, clear, and awesome! Just make sure to plug into the high-def HDMI port #5 and not the standard HDMI ports.

can you repair a laptop that was not purchased at best buy?

We purchased a laptop last year from Walmart. It is a Compaq Presario CQ62. The screen froze then so I con-alt-del. when I turned it on it said the following:

SMART hard disk error
The smart hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. To ensure not data loss, please back up the content immediately and runthe hard disk test in system diagnostics.
Hard disk 1 (301)
No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

The problem is whatever key i press in diagnostics, it says failure. We also do not have a boot disk. Is this something you can help us with please?

Many thanks
Geek Squad can fix many repair issues with a multitude of electronic items.

It will cost you without an active warranty policy with them however.

How much will it cost to get my PS2 fixed?

I need to get my laser replaced or fixed but I'm not sure how much it will cost me and if I should just buy a new game system.
It is late in coming, but time to get a new system.

The PS2 is now greatly outdated and the costs to repair are too high. You can buy a used PS2 for next to nothing at your local Goodwill or resale gaming store.

Best Buy offers may deals on the PS4, Xbox One, and other systems - and offer an optional warranty.

Best of Luck!
