BeLLaNYC's Reviews

Brett Ratner's adaptation of Thomas Harris' Red Dragon is presented here in a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Ratner and screenwriter Ted Tally (who won an Oscar for his adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs), a timeline of Dr. Hannibal Lector's life, deleted scenes, and a featurette about real-life FBI profiler John Douglas. This is a fine disc for what it is, but the same extras are available on a disc that offers a widescreen edition of the film. That version is preferable to this one.

I recommend watching this film of the silence of the lambs saga because it gives the story line before Hannibal meets Clarice Starling. It shows you how he ended up in prison and the detective that Edward Norton plays helps you to understand a little more background. So it's the story before silence of the lambs in sequence. However, the character of the red dragon wasn't so great. I definitely feel they could have went further with the storyline.
What's great about it: gave some more insight to Hannibal Lector's character
What's not so great: Other than Anthony Hopkins, the other two actors were alright in this film have seen them in better roles.
I would recommend this to a friend!
