Great movie focusing on wolverine
on January 11, 2010

Wolverine is one of the edgier characters in the Marvel universe, and his first solo pic reflects that reality. The film lives in the same general territory as the previous X-Men flicks, even as it inexorably amps up the content when it comes to violence and language.
Apparently, we have The Dark Knight to thank for that.
20th Century Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman told Entertainment Weekly, "[X-Men Origins: Wolverine] is very bada--, and we knew it would push the furthest limit of PG-13. But once Dark Knight came out, we saw that there wasn't any level of intensity we couldn't go to."
In the most literal (and probably the most important) sense, Wolverine makes good on Rothman's boast. Whereas The Dark Knight hinted at graphic violence as often as it showed it, this film dispenses with such an approach en route to the proverbial jugular. And so we get multiple impalings courtesy of Wolverine's six sharp claws. Decapitation. A pistol to the head. And the camera rarely pulls away.
In another way, though, the comparison breaks down. Wolverine lacks the philosophical gravitas of previous X-Men films, which often alluded to how we should treat those who are different from us. And never mind asking the weighty ethical questions The Dark Knight tried to raise—some of which made that film feel even darker than it was on the surface. We do get a bit of banter about whether a man can change his nature or not. And that question may spark a few good after-movie discussions. But that's not really what the fourth film in this franchise is about.
No, what we have here is an unpretentious, unapologetic actioner. Whatever messages might get lobbed along the way, they're never much more complex than Wolverine's adamantium-laced claws and his growling credo: "I'm the best at what I do," he tells Kayla, "and what I do isn't very nice."
In the famous words of Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee, "'Nuff said."

Great Christmas Movie
on January 11, 2010

All of the above would fit in the case of Four Christmases. But it's the themes that could have been a highlight but aren't that are especially frustrating because of the values they mock.
One case in point is marriage. Actually, the lack thereof. Brad and Kate have seen poor matrimonial examples—and suffered the consequences of their parents' splits—so they want nothing to do with rings and licenses. Their motto? Be together because you want to be, not because you're tied to the old ball and chain! "I'd rather be stuck on an island with some weird millionaire hunting me trying to kill me and me trying to escape than be involved with [marriage]," Brad insists. "'Cause that's just a time bomb waiting to explode."
In other words, they want to remain responsibility- and commitment-free for as long as they can. Have fun. Steer clear of knowing someone too intimately or entrusting your life to your lover, because that would lead to messiness and disappointment and divorce. And though both do eventually begin to overcome their fear of domesticity, they still shun marriage.
Another potentially positive theme gone awry is the celebration of Christmas itself. Rather than seeing it as a chance to remember Christ's birth and bless others with gifts and love, Brad and Kate are in it for themselves like a couple of big thirtysomething kids. They scoff at sacred tradition and family, and for all intents and purposes, ridicule charitable causes by lying about their involvement with them. Because, in Brad and Kate's world, Christmas is about avoidance and fun. If that means trampling on what others hold dear, so be it.
They might have discovered—this year—that cardinal rule of Christmastime: It is better to give than receive. But they don't. By way of a sneak peek into the future at the end of the film, we see the self-centered duo right back at their old tricks the following year. Life has thrown a twist at them—and it's New Year's instead of Christmas. But no real lessons have been learned. And no real changes are made. It's another repeat of the same old same old—just like Vaughn's movies.
What's great about it: Good Price

I just bought a shuffle,so that I can download only one of my playlists to it, but when I plugged it in I got a message on the I Tunes that the I pod is "corrupted" and I had to restore it before I could do anything at all at I Tunes. I clicked on the "Restore" option and now I am getting messages that the I pod is in "recovering " mode and still cannot do anything with it.The shuffle is 4KB and the playlist I am trying to put in the shuffle is only 1.6KB ( the whole library is 12KB). Please help!

I enjoy listening to audio books. What is the most reliable, most user friendly, and reasonably priced MP3 player for a middle-aged math teacher?

What extra equipment is needed? Advice on chargers, speakers, earphones, adapter for car (I travel a lot.) Any advice on places to download audio books or help with transferring from CD or books on cassettes? Good inexpensive, and reliable audio book clubs? Thanks so much!
itunes, and make sure you have a car charger
