I was shocked to see how clean and polished these restorations are. They look more like modern day films that take place during the 60's, as opposed to being shot during the 60's.
Bond is still Bond, if you liked him before, you'll still like him now.
The selection for this set is somewhat curious, as it seems the films were almost picked out of a hat as to which ones would go into this collection.
The extra features are fantastic, with many interesting documentaries on the process the restoration company used to polish these films so well.
My only gripe is that the case, while stylish and clever, holds the discs in place with little foam nubs which look like they're wear out over time, as opposed to a tried and true plastic nub found standard in almost every disc release for any platform (DVD, Blu-Ray, Xbox360, PS3, Wii, etc)
All in all though, a wonderful collection with excellent features. A must buy. I can't wait for the rest of the films to make it over.
What's great about it: Amazing restoration, great special features
What's not so great: Packaging seems prone to wear out over time
While plenty has been said about The Dark Knight and how amazing it is, this collectors edition set with the Batpod can frustrate some Blu-Ray owners.
Some of you out there are like me and purchase the biggest, baddest, top-of-the-line edition of anything we are going to purchase, but likewise, we keep our collections orderly and like everything to be neat, uniform, and alphabetical on our shelf. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but some of you reading this are in the same boat as me.
Just know that this will not go nicely into your collection, as the discs' case is built directly into the figurine. No alternative like the collector's editions for Blade Runner or Hellboy 2 or even the previous collector's edition for Batman Begins.
Great movie, great extras, but just remember that if you're very particular about how your collection is organized, you're gonna have a figurative square peg to somehow get into a round hole.
I WOULD NOT recommend the CE to someone who was as particular as I am, but would gladly recommend it to everyone else.
While Saw itself is a good film, and offers unique twists and the chance to get yourself out of any predicament if you're willing to go the distance, I cannot recommend the Blu-Ray release.
I purchased hoping the interactive menus and extras would be more than printed on the back of the box, but sadly, there really is nothing but the film on this disc. Theatrical trailers, a staple of bonus content for DVD and Blu-Ray special features, don't even make it in.
All in all, this feels like a very rushed product, as if Lionsgate just wanted to cash in on the Saw craze before Halloween without putting anything but the film itself on the disc.
What makes this most upsetting is that the regular release of Saw on DVD has a plethora of bonus features that didn't make it over to the Blu-Ray.
I DO NOT recommend this Blu-Ray
What's great about it: Story is very clever, can be viewed as either horror or murder mystery
What's not so great: Blu-Ray is absolutely bare bones, no extras at all, whatsoever
