I grew up with top 40 radio by way of a jukebox in my grandfather's business. Sure, I "graduated" to FM radio thanks to WNEW in NYC, but those 50's through 70's 45s still reverberate with me. Didn't have the bucks to spend on the full box set, so this gave me a taste and let's me enjoy Sly & Family in short doses... just like the days of 45s! Kick back and enjoy.

What's great about it: Brings me back to the days of jukeboxes.
What's not so great: A few too many mellow tunes, but classic Sly & Family
Don't know what I was expecting as I've never heard anything by MMW, but I love Scofield so I took a chance. Nothing ground breaking or Earth shattering, but Scofield doing what he does. That quirky fusion guitar tone is front and center and he seems to be given the spotlight far more often than the others, which is fine w/ me. I may not pop this in all the time, but when I'm looking for a fix of Sco, this will make the rotation.
There are only a few CDs that get regular rotation in my player - meaning it is rare to go even a month between listenings. After 12 years, this disc is still in regular rotation. A classic "Desert Island Disc" - if I could only have on disc with me when I was stranded, it would be a toss up between "Sailing to Philadelphia", "Quadrophenia", "Aqualung" and "The Who By Numbers". Stylistically, this disc is nothing like the others, but the lyrics are amazing, and Knopfler's playing is like water on a fast simmer, just about to boil over, but barely controlled. His tone and note choices are impeccable, and the duet w/ James Taylor is beyond this world. Buy two copies and share it - it is THAT GOOD!
What's great about it: Mark Knopfler's playing, intelligent lyrics & great vocals.
