GrizzlyForce's Reviews

SynopsisHome used to be where the heart was. America used to be free. Now, home is nothing but a bleak landscape of walled towns and abandoned suburbs, where high school stadiums have become detention centers and shopping malls shelter armored attack vehicles. Fear and despair have crept into the United States that you knew and loved. Worldwide conflict, dwindling resources and economic crisis have taken their toll, and now, in 2027, the savage, nuclear-armed Greater Korean Republic clenches the US in a brutal occupation. But the enemy forgot one little thing about the USA: they may have seized our land and weakened our state, but no one can weaken the spirit of the American people. Not since George Washington led the patriots in the Revolutionary War has America fought a battle so vital to the freedom of the nation and so close to the hearts of the people. Not since then have we had to band together to protect our Homefront. Take the front lines alongside the colorful characters of the Resistance as you employ daring guerrilla tactics, commandeer military vehicles and unleash epic warfare across sprawling battlefields with first-person sharpshooting action. The heart-pounding, hair-raising exhilaration of the struggle springs to life when you take the fight online and experience multiplayer infantry, helicopter and drone battles the likes of which you've never seen. Mask your fear, take your weapon in hand and bear the title "American" with pride: this is the call to save your Homefront.

I am compelled to write due to the outlandish commercials and claims that this game is better than any COD or BFBC game. First off, it's different entirely save for the fact that it's an FPS and the controls are the same. Second, the responsiveness and game speed don't even come close to COD. I don't recommend buying the game. In fact I got 4 levels into on SP and 1 hour of MP and walked it right back into the store. The game has already lost half its resell value and trade-in value, that is a key indicator of it's quality.
I will say the story line is genius and that's about it.
"Sprint" is more like "power walk." The guns sound like fully automatic pellet rifles. The multiplayer has perks but an overall terrible "MAG" quality to it. SP levels are the typical "maze of homes and backyards." MP mechanics are jumbled and speed is slow. Killstreaks are cool but honestly that is not enough if I don't feel the speed and power that high quality shooters like KZ3, Crysis 2, MW2, of BFBC2 offer me. This game actually plays more like the disappointing Medal Of Honor that came out last year.
Graphics are average. Textures are pixelated. Lots of screen-tearing during intensified battles. Lots of useless dialogue and forced conversations within the campaign. Visually there is nothing stunning here. Atmospheres and textures are bland. SP campaign is full of the "go there shoot that" "kill then take cover then run forward and repeat" "run to this building and plant the C4" operations that have been beaten into the ground. Vehicle operation pails in comparison to BFBC2. You actually feel like one big target when you're in a vehicle because of the controls and speed. It's not like BFBC 2 where when you get in a vehicle it means people are going to get run-over and blown into smithereens.
The game lacks power and force. It doesn't live up to the marketing or the people on the internet's claims that it's way better than all of the FPS' that have set the standard. The story-line and some multiplayer options are the only pieces I can say are good. In the end, they still don't make the game great so please do yourself a favor and play a demo or store copy before buying. Don't make a misinformed $60.00 mistake like I did. Go buy KZ3 or Crysis 2 if you want a responsive FPS with quality.
What's great about it: Campaign storyline
What's not so great: FALSE ADVERTISING.

Not worth buying. It's average at best, not epic.

As far as blu-ray transfers go, this movie is stock. I'm not writing about the quality of the blu-ray though. I'm just giving my opinion of the movie. Ridley Scott as we all know cannot make a movie in under 2 and a half hours. I'm not complaining about his previous movies like Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, or Kingdom Of Heaven; I love all of those. However, this film utilized confusing character development and just wasn't paramount in his directing career or Russel Crowe's for that matter. Robin Longstride's painful past was briefly run through and I just didn't care much about him or his path in the story. Russel Crowe had his witty moments but nothing of the caliber that his previous performances have delivered. He didn't have the epic persona of Maximus, William Wallace, or Leonidas. For an outlaw that did a lot of damage, it just seemed like it came easy for him. We all felt for Maximus, when his family was murdered by the terrible usurper to the throne of Rome. We feared and felt the suspense of the men trapped in Mogadishu. We felt the ferocity of the 300 spartans battling the massive Persian army. In the end I was scratching my head as Robin Hood just seemed to have the usual format for productions of this size with little originality. Format: beginning battle, some drama, battle, travel, battle, travel, suspense, battle, drama, and battle some more. The battles were well done, with brutal scenes of arrows piercing soldier's faces and fire scorching them to the ground, which is always a cathartic experience for us action fans, but that was about it. It seems like Ridley was on autopilot for this one. I don't recommend buying it, wish I would've rented it.
What's great about it: Brutal uncompromising battle scenes
What's not so great: Lack of momentum, sporadic development

DO NOT BELIEVE THE TRASH TALK!

I have to say the only disappointing thing about this BD release is the negative response it has received. I am into the details. For example, I care enough to pick and choose which multi-platformed games I buy for PS3 or XBOX based on critical analysis by respected tech-sites. I will ALWAYS buy the superior product; and if picture quality is sub-par I will return it to the store for a refund ASAP because this stuff gets expensive! This is one of my favorite movies of all time so when I saw reviewers claiming a computer was left on auto-pilot to remaster the film in BD I was against buying it. I read forum after forum of people thrashing the quality of the film. The negative response was so profound I could not bring myself to just go out and buy it; so I rented it first to SEE FOR MYSELF. I loaded the DVD (which I owned already) on a BD player for upscaling and loaded up the BD version that I rented. I compared the two by pausing them at the same spots and switching channels with my receiver. I paid attention to the areas people were criticizing (missing arrows, smooth foreheads, too much DNR, etc) and could not see it! The sound is actually done well, and the picture looks BETTER than ever (especially when compared with the DVD). I cannot understand why any person, in replacing all of their DVD's with blu-rays, would pass this up! I actually went into Best Buy that day after viewing about 30 minutes worth of the BD I rented and bought it. I watched the whole thing start to finish and the movie is more breath-taking than ever. I thought the quality was excellent. I am not dismissing other reviews and don't doubt that the production company may have used a automatic program to make this BD; but I couldn't see it. I encourage you to see for yourself, the movie is worth it!
What's great about it: Amazing movie, everyone knows that!
What's not so great: I almost didn't buy it because of the bad reviews.

For a name like Wolfenstein with so much history they could have put more effort into the design and writing of the game but I still had a good time with it. I thought the storyline was interesting and I recommend upgrading all the veil powers because they really are a trip. The graphics are decent but the physics of movement and certain textures look old school. Playing as BJ feels very stiff, especially if you're used to playing FPS like COD, Killzone 2, and Resistance 2. The SS weapons (like the Tesla Cannon, Particle Cannon, etc.) are VERY cool. I really liked the futuristic weapons because they are powerful and are a good departure from the regular rifles. I am not usually into upgrade systems and the fact that there is not enough gold in the game to upgrade everything was a disappointment. Searching for gold also tacked on several minutes of busywork which got boring and redundant. I rated this as an average shooter, because there are much more detailed FPS out there and this seemed very "on the track" and mechanical. I recommend renting it or purchasing it when it goes down to 30 bucks; it is not worth $60.
What's great about it: Cool weapons, veil powers, sci-fi twist, cool boss battles, choose the order of missions
What's not so great: Weapon upgrade system, searching for gold, predictable, physics, sub-par writing

This game has it all! The story-line and flow of the game is impeccable. There have been so many jaw-dropping moments that I lost count after the second mission. We've all waited a long time for this game and it did not disappoint one bit. Playing as the Joker has been a trip too. Seriously the game is flawless; it is legit in every way and gives you an experience the comics and movies (except for BB and TDK) could ever give you. It MUST be experienced if you're a Batman fan! It definitely makes you feel like you're Batman the whole time and you use detective work and strategy to solve every mystery and attack every foe. The combat system is the best I've ever seen to date in an RPG. It is a dream come true.
What's great about it: Forensic tech, story-line, dialogue, solving riddles, free-flow combat, villains.
What's not so great: It ends.

I watched the Lens Of Truth web review before I bought the game to make my choice of buying the 360 or PS3 version. The PS3 won with no screen tearing and much superior textures. It looked really good, the beginning cinematic is the highest quality piece in this game. You fight a Hunter Killer in the first level, and it is awesome! The graphics in the levels look great, it really does look like post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. There are some great vehicle chase levels. However, by the 3rd level you're bored and just over it, good thing the game only takes 4 hours MAX to complete! The gun noises are weak, Connor's M4 sounds like a fully automatic pellet rifle. There are only 6 enemies throughout the game (2 of which you only fight in 3 levels). There are probably 4 different music tracks that are recycled throughout the game, which all add to the redundancy of combat! Also, there is no appearance of Marcus Wright, how do you make a game based off of a movie without it's key cast member?! There are only 12 trophies, which is another testament to how rushed and carelessly developed this game was. There were a few glitches, where robots would get stuck in walls, and I could not move on in the level because they were the last to be destroyed and it was impossible to get to them! I would not recommend this product to a friend. I say rent it, do not waste the 60 bucks, it is NOT worth it!
What's great about it: Graphics, beginning cinematic, vehicle levels.
What's not so great: Poor story, only 6 enemies, 5 weapons, weak gun sounds, 0 replay value, no Marcus Wright appearance!

Worth getting used to the controls. Amazing game!

I played the demo and hated it; I did not like the controls at all. Then I saw more reviews and got interested. I bought it, got used to the controls, and now I love it. The game is just sick and stressful. Attention to detail in the way weapons fire, dust floating in rays of light, and graphic textures are some of the best I've seen since Dead Space. It is very cinematic and the story line is great. You literally have to manage chaos most of the time, with a horde of zombies coming from unpredictable locations at all times. There are moments with cheesy dialogue and the controls are hard to adjust to. One major downside is that you cannot shoot or melee attack on the move; you are frozen while you aim and shoot. This makes getting attacked by zombies from behind inevitable as you cannot strategically pick off enemies on the go. Get in the habit of conserving your ammo with head shots and punches. I haven't played it in co-op but I've heard it is awesome. I would definitely recommend this game.
What's great about it: Attention to detail with weapons, graphics, & story.
What's not so great: Controls, can't shoot from the hip or on the run.

Changing Hard Drive on PS3 - Best Buy &/or Geek Squad

I'm looking into changing my Hard Drive into a bigger on my PS3, but does Best Buy &/or Geek Squad do it for you? If so, how much will they charge?
Yes they do, but there is a way you can do it yourself. I'd read some forums to avoid some heavy costs. I don't mean to knock Best Buy's service, just buy any accessories needed from them and do it yourself :)

I've never bought it but is it better than a WII?

Yes, the PS3 is a beast! Way more powerful than the Wii but more focused on the adult crowd. It has the internet, plays blu-rays, you can stream your iTunes on it, etc. Games only constitute like 20% of the PS3's potential.

i need a wireless router for my ps3. what do u guys reccommend i need a good one for range and a very good signal A VERY GOOD SIGNAL. thanks
Any router you get needs to be within a good range of the PS3 for it to stream video/music and download content at optimum speed. I am not sure about routers and their strengths but I can tell you what I did with one that cost me 80 bucks. I have a Belkin N Wireless and my PS3 received a 70% signal at 20 feet away, through a few walls and a hallway. I moved my PS3 to the other side of the entertainment center (so it would no longer receive interference from the TV, XBOX, etc.) which closed about 2 feet of that gap. I also moved the Belkin about 3 feet closer (kept it in the same room) and this took my signal to 88-90%. I recommend smart placement of the router and PS3 to improve your signal.
