Ken Hughes' family favorite Chitty Chitty Bang Bang comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Subtitles are accessible in both of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include a collectible booklet and the original theatrical trailer. Viewers young and old can enjoy the sing-along special feature. This THX certified release is a solid family-friendly title from MGM/UA.

BEWARE: Full screen!!

A classic film that needs no introduction (although it can't compete with current fare of course), this review focuses mainly on the packaging of this particular version; namely, that the packaging does not adequately state the fact that this is a FULL screen version of the film (I don't DO full-screen!) Example: when Mr. Potts is in his workshop, Truly reaches to "turn on a switch" and her arm goes completely off-screen to do so! Useless.
So, this review is mainly a "buyer-beware" to prevent someone else from making the same mistake in purchase.
Also, the back of the package states that a "Colorful 4-page booklet featuring trivia and production notes" is included, but it isn't!
A waste of money, unless you count the public value of donating it to the local library. Search for this title using the word widescreen or you, too will likely be surprised & disappointed.
What's great about it: Classic movie with the legendary Dick VanDyke (IF you could enjoy it without half the screen chopped off)
What's not so great: Doesn't noticeably state being full-screen, a rude awakening AFTER opening package; Extras listed on back NOT included
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
