This is as definitive of a telling of the Eagles as we will probably ever get, especially as long as Glenn Frey and Don Henley are around. It's a top-notch piece of production work. The remastered audio quality is second-to-none, and the opportunity to see so much old footage of the Eagles in their heyday is really interesting.
Unfortunately, Frey & Henley controlled the narrative on this documentary, and therefore, a lot of the "History of The Eagles" is not discussed or brushed off. A true Eagles fan (and I count myself as one) will wonder things like (1) Why was Randy Meisner given less than 5 minutes of interview time in the 2 and a half hour documentary? (2) Why was Don Felder given less than 5 minutes of interview time? (I know Felder and Meisner's time with the Eagles is over, but still, if you want an accurate telling of the story FROM ALL SIDES, their unedited input would have certainly spiced up this documentary.) (3) Why did Frey and Henley choose to basically gloss over their years of excess in the 70s, and not name the names of the people they were involved with (Stevie Nicks, for instance). (4) Why did Henley choose to not talk about "the incident" at his home when an underage girl OD'd? And again, a true Eagles fan can come up with lots more questions as to why things were omitted/glossed over.
This is a good documentary, I'm glad I got it, and in terms of the technical aspects of making a music documentary, this should be the gold standard. The casual Eagles fan will not know or miss the numerous things that could have been discussed in this documentary. But the lifelong fans like myself will see the glaring omissions.
