Outstanding Initial Impression

I set one of these up for my mother yesterday and was blown away at the quality at this price point. The screen resolution, color saturation, blacks, whites are all very good for a tablet. Minimal, if any, bloatware installed. Android Nougat is very smooth and fluid on the tablet.
At a glance it appears very small and IS very lightweight. Her old tablet was one of the first generation Acer Iconia A500's. The old one was much larger and heavier but when comparing the viewable screen sizes they are identical or very close to the same size.
I suspect the other review before mine here was accidentally posted to the wrong product? Doesn't make much sense nor does it reflect my experience or those I've read from other users on various other sites.
The only negative I can think of is there isn't a flash for the camera on this thing. I know most do not care about the camera on a tablet but my mother uses hers on occasion. It takes reasonably good pictures in good lighting but not so in low lighting.
I only set it up for her and played with it for about one hour so cannot attest to the durability or much else. Personally I've had very good experiences with Asus products(monitors & laptops)

Excellent Monitor

This monitor has excellent color, resolution and clarity. The overall design is aesthetically pleasing but the performance and image quality are what's most impressive.
No, it does not have built in speakers nor does it have USB ports but if you want a beautiful monitor at a budget price this monitor would be hard(or impossible) to beat.

Good Early Impression

I've only owned this printer for one day and have run only used the printer briefly to test the quality, speed, loudness, etc.. It is currently on sale with no reviews showing so I wanted to offer my opinion and impressions.
The printer's ink cartridges still appear full after having completed the tests required during the setup procedure. Everything is pretty straight forward regarding setup. My only issue was Windows 10 kept my old printer as the default printer so ensure that is changed.
The quick setup guide is thorough enough to get it going. The print quality is good for a printer at a sub $100 price point. At it's listed retail of $150 I would expect slightly more. I detest the fact you now have to manually open the paper trays to print. The old Canon printers did this automatically.
The printer is very quiet in the quiet mode and speed is acceptable. The scanner also seems quite decent and faster than my previous Canon printer. Ink is a bit pricey in my opinion but the 5 individual cartridges should offset the price difference in my old cartridges.
Overall I think it is an excellent printer for the $79.00, or anywhere less than $100. I will delay recommending it at full price until I have further tested it and ensure everything operates as smoothly as it has thus far.

While this cost considerably more than I anticipated spending it is well worth every penny. This laptop has everything I desired but didn't think I my budget would allow.
The image quality is outstanding for a laptop, keyboard very comfortable, well backlit, good layout, speedy processor, very minimal bloatware, sizeable albeit a bit sluggish hard drive, decent built in Front speakers, stylish and compact design.
I love everything about this computer. The only things I would improve would be the hard drive is slow considering the quality of the remaining components. Volume of built-in speakers is acceptable but ideally would be louder and deeper.
I do love this laptop having returned a competitor's brand and paid additional to get this I am now happy I did so.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Try it Hands-On First
on February 3, 2015
Posted by: AverageJohn
from St. Louis
I purchased this laptop on sale because it had reasonable specifications, looked nice but mostly was an excellent value.
I typed on it briefly in the store but upon getting it home was
quite disappointed for the following reasons;
1) Trackpad is too large. You cannot type on this laptop without
your hands touching the Trackpad and consequently
interrupting your typing. The only option would be to hover your
hands above the laptop which obviously would get uncomfortable quickly.
2) The colors of this laptop are very washed out looking.
There is no color depth so if you intend on using photo editing
software or anything requiring reasonable color accuracy this
is not the ideal laptop for you.
3) The processor was slower than I anticipated, at least it was
on occasion it would stutter and lag briefly. This happened
while using programs on the computer itself so was not
connection related. But this was a minor issue as it was
sufficiently fast most of the time.
Things I Liked:
1) Bright, well backlit keyboard.
2) Nice overall appearance and design.
3) Limited bloatware which could be easily removed. Actually
all I saw was antivirus(Symantec) and games and game
promotions.
4) The "360" design and function were flawless. The screen
rotates as quickly as you can rotate the laptop, just like a
smartphone.
5) Price & Value. On sale this laptop was a bargain and is
reasonably priced at its regular price.
In conclusion if you need a laptop for working on or rapidly entering data I would suggest you look for a different laptop. However if you intend on using this primarily with the onscreen keyboard, touchscreen computing and casual web browsing, playing flash games, etc.. then it is a very good deal. Had the trackpad been smaller I would likely have kept it in lieu of the named shortcomings.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent Cordless Telephone
on December 7, 2008
Posted by: AverageJohn
from St. Louis
This is by far the best cordless telephone I have ever owned. Shortly after purchasing it I decided to see test the range of the handset. My initial goal was to see if it could clearly make calls from a distance of 100 feet from the base, outdoors with the base indoors. It was able to make a legible telephone call from 405 feet !!! There was some static at that distance but was perfectly clear at over 325 foot.
The phone charges and holds a charge well, the screen and overall design is pleasant and the price is more than reasonable for such a high quality telephone.
For those confused, verify if the model you are purchasing either does or does not have a digital answering machine. There is a nearly identical model that has the answering machine built in but mine does not.
What's great about it: Range, Battery Life, Price/Value
What's not so great: attracts finger prints and smudges easily on LED screen
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good but has quirks
By Volhunter
My biggest issue is not with the computer but with Windows 8. I hate it!! The computer screen brightness fades in and out. It will unexpectedly go to the home page. The jury is still out, but with the screen issue, I don't think I would recommend. I have had Dell laptops for years with work and not any issues at all... but they weren't running on Windows 8. What was MS thinking? Easier? Not!

Asus Impressive to See - Has Flaws
By TahoeInternational
I purchased the Asus to use primarily for business in the Real Estate Industry. It's thinner than my last Asus laptop which is nice for portability. I love the flip function of the screen. The browsers are not so friendly when in the flip mode. My kids decided to install a game on it to test the graphics and he was able to play both Guild Wars and Elder Scrolls Online with no issues. The laptop didn't get hot either. The speed is pretty decent, of course it's new still and hasn't been bogged down with a lot of application yet. The keyboard and track pad work well. The color is vibrant and beautiful. Asus did well with the location of the SD Card reader this time. In my last Asus laptop, it was in a horrible location and the card would get stuck. It's much more functional now.
Cons:
The backlight randomly fades in and out for no apparent reason. I was going to return the laptop as a result, but it passed the return period.
The screen moves when using the touchscreen and keyboard.
The power button is difficult to function.
Overall, It's a nice laptop. I just wish I could figure out a way to control the backlight settings.

backlight randomly fades in and out
February 13, 2015
If you are talking about the panel or monitor fading in and out that is due to an ambient light sensor adjusting to the lighting situation in your surroundings. It can be turned on or turned off by hitting FN+A simultaneously.
Hope this helps but if you were talking about the keyboard backlighting I have no idea and would also suspect it defective.

Powerful laptop with touch screen
By AZTennisAce from Mesa, AZ
I bought this laptop to run AutoCAD since I do solar drawings daily. I have been real happy with the speed and performance and I like the touch screen. I had one issue with trying to upgrade the RAM. BB specs states that it is upgradeable to 12 GB, but the Geek Squad is having a little issue getting me upgraded. I am still hopeful that they can get their stuff together and help me out. The lit keyboard is also nice.

RAM upgrade
February 16, 2015
Just a "for your information." There's a YouTube video showing how to upgrade the memory and hard drive yourself if you feel comfortable doing so. I found one yesterday as I anticipate installing a SSD in mine. If not you may try another computer repair business to do it. It should take less than 15 minutes. If you opt to do it yourself be Certain to get the correct memory. Good luck.

Headed in the right direction
By BuzzGordon
So I was looking for a 2 in 1 laptop to replace both my current college laptop (HP Envy 15) and also my Surface Pro 2. After watching video and reading user reviews, I concluded that the Asus Flip was the perfect fit. So I went out and bought one from Best Buy only to return it 2 days later after reviewing it, and here's why.
- First off, If there's one thing that should be mentioned here, it's that the viewing angles on this laptop are downright horrible. In tablet mode, when tilting the laptop left to right, up and down you'll notice color distortion like crazy that's typical on TN displays. Now take a premium IPS display and do the same test, you'll see consistent coloring and a clear picture, no distortion. I'm not sure if Asus opted with a TN panel or it is in fact an IPS, but the quality needs to be addressed. Also the overall brightness of this display was lacking. EVEN after turning off the 'auto brightness' adjustment, the laptop's max brightness was significantly darker than what I'm used to.
- Second was the keys on the keyboard. Keystrokes felt average but what got me was the back lighting from under the keys. Sitting in a dark room with the keyboard illuminated makes it difficult to distinguish what's written on the keys because it's reflecting white light through silver keys. It would have been a FAR better choice to make these keys black, with white light shining through to easily look down and find a key.
- Third was the charger. Note that on nearly every notebook power cable, there's the electrical outlet end, a power brick in the middle, then the laptop's particular power adapter. On the Flip's power cable though, they have implemented the brick and the wall outlet plug in the same thing. When plugging in at a horizontal outlet on the floor or a power surge the brick will stay in place, but try on a vertical surface on a wall, and the weight of the brick could be enough that with the slightest pull on your cable it's going to start falling out. I don't know if Asus thought they would try something different and make it better..? But it's not, and an overall bad concept.
- My last complaints are just recommendations that I would have liked to see in a laptop that's already near the $1,000 price point and for individuals who are comfortable in spending a little more for better features. Make the CPU a quad core, offer (2) RAM slots instead of 4GB's soldered on the motherboard, and upgrade to a GTX 850m (or better) instead of a GT 840m.
Like my summary states, I think Asus is headed in the right direction with this device, and making a quality product in an already competitive market. I had already bought a 512gb Samsung 850 Evo SSD that was going to be my primary HD, and a HD caddy for another 2 TB of storage replacing the optical drive to make this laptop even better. But now I have to return these as well. My hopes are that Asus improves on their 2 in 1’s and keeps releasing better models. Maybe throughout 2015 and into 2016 new 2 in 1 models and devices will emerge that meet my criteria and can justifiably replace my current set up. But as of now, I'm content with waiting.

different perspective
February 17, 2015
1) The viewing angles on this laptop are excellent. This has not only been my experience but is stated in every professional review I have seen of this model.
2) You can adjust the brightness of the backlighting if you are having trouble. I can see mine fine at any brightness level and in the complete dark.
3) I agree that the charger could be better designed. However I do charge mine from a vertical wall outlet without any issue.
4) The RAM is not soldered onto the motherboard. There is a cover over the RAM but the RAM can easily be changed and there are (2) RAM slots.
If you can find a better laptop for $1,000 buy it. I have been shopping for some time and I could not find anything close to this and in the same price range.

How is this charger different than the older Samsung Model: 60-3692-05-XP?

The only difference I can find is that this one folds flat for more convenient traveling. (The part the back of your phone rests against appears to have some type of hinge so that it will slide down and lay flush with the base). Seems ridiculous in my opinion as the previous wireless dock/charging stands little bevel for sitting the phone on appears as thin or thinner than the back of this new charger. The reviews I have read claim the charging speeds are identical but more complaints on this new model about charging errors. Also this new one does not include a charging cable but rather they expect you to use the charging cable that came with your Samsung phone to plug into the "type C" USB port and then into the wall or computer.

One reviewer on Samsung's website claims "It comes with a fast charge usb-c brick and a usb-c to usb-c cable to feed it power" but I cannot find anything to support that claim.

Overall I see no reason to opt for this over the previous less expensive model.

Can you use with a HP computer

Most likely. Provided your computer has a DVI-D port to connect the monitor to you will be fine. Alternatively there's a VGA port for connection but I would not recommend using in this mode as the image quality will be degraded.

Google out DVI-D to see if you have a matching port from your computer. If so you will be fine.
