Amazing value versus other inexpensive soundbars.

I own several soundbars. I have two different vizio soundbars, an insignia mini, and a nakamichi. I didn't expect much from this insignia because it's much less expensive than my vizio soundbars. Surprisingly, it works just as well and the bluetooth is reliable. It's superior to the nakamichi in every way and the sound is crisp. Volume gets plenty loud, and there are plenty of hookups on the soundbar. For the price, there isn't a better soundbar. Just note that it may not work with over the air TV broadcasts when using an optical cable depending on the sound format that your TV puts out to the speaker.

Compact, but not very loud

Calling this a soundbar is misleading. At best, these are decent PC speakers. Watching most movies and TV shows with the volume at the maximum level results in sound that isn't much louder than standard TV speakers. They sound a lot better than most TV speakers, but do not expect a lot in terms of volume. The larger soundbar is muuuuch better than the mini. If you have room for the larger sound bar, definitely get it over this one.

Marshmallow!
on July 26, 2016

So Android Marshmallow is not officially supported on this device, but it is officially supported by Cyanogenmod and very easy to flash on this phone. This is a fantastic phone if you're willing to tinker with it. The only things that aren't great are the camera and the smaller battery. If you can live without amazing battery life and don't rely on your phone as your main camera, this is quite a decent phone for the price.

Great bedroom/dorm TV
on July 26, 2016

I've never owned Insignia TVs before. I normally only purchase more expensive brands, so my expectations were a bit low. I was pleasantly surprised with this TV.
PROs
• Full Roku support and can play most channels. Seems faster than my old Roku 2.
• Wifi enabled
• Simple remote that I actually like. I love the volume rocker on the side of the remote. Very easy to navigate.
• Each of your TV inputs show up on the Roku screen as their own "channel" that you pick the label for.
• Supports HDMI ARC, Optical, and basic HDMI CEC controls
• Roku phone/tablet app can be used to control the TV
CONs
• 720p resolution. Not full HD, but for the price, it's hard to complain.
• Roku app has a power button. You cannot turn the TV on with it. (I know. Overly critical point, but without the original remote, it's very hard to find the button to turn it on.)
• HDMI CEC functionality is limited. You can turn on and off a receiver by turning on and off the TV, but you cannot use media player controls to operate another media player like a Fire Stick or Raspberry Pi. Navigation buttons, play, pause, stop, and other media buttons do nothing to attached HDMI devices even with HDMI CEC turned on. The instruction manual on the Insignia website seems to contradict this fact. I tried several HDMI CEC playback devices, and none of them would work with this TV.
• There's no way to actually label inputs other than the handful of presets already programmed into the TV. There are many presets, but it would be nice if the channel were labeled better.
• TV has difficulty passing 5.1 surround from TV inputs to a receiver. To be honest though, I doubt most people are hooking this TV up to a surround sound system given the price.
• Not compatible with Playstation Vue or Ultraflix channels, though all other major channels seem to be compatible.
Bottom Line
At the end of the day, this is a really decent TV that requires nothing to be hooked up to it to sit down and watch a movie or TV show. It's a very easy to use TV that would be great as a gift for parents or children. The fact that it's wifi enabled would make a great wall-mounted TV as it can do most video services without anything hooked up. The cons listed above do not detract from making this a very decent secondary TV.

Great secondary TV - Supports HDMI CEC!

I got this on a student deal for very cheap, so my expectations were very low for this TV. Unfortunately, I could not find information on this site or Insignia's site to make sure it met my needs, but I bought anyway in hopes it would work. I'm glad I did. This TV supports HDMI CEC (called Inlink in the TV's menu) and can control other devices without a separate remote! Unfortunately, the included remote is lacking most of the buttons necessary to do this, but a cheap universal remote brings back the play, pause and navigation buttons using standard Insignia codes and works fine.
PROs
•Very decent picture for the price
•Speedy when channel surfing
•Supports HDMI ARC and HDMI CEC - Control the Fire Stick, Roku, Raspberry Pi, etc using an Insignia remote!
•Colors are not terrible when calibrated properly
•The HDMI/USB ports are easily accessible and there's plenty of room for larger "stick" media players without the HDMI extension cables.
CONs
•TV speakers are weaker than most TVs this size, and the speakers are on the bottom instead of the front.
•Even though the TV supports HDMI CEC, the included remote doesn't even have basic navigation buttons. You need a separate remote to really utilize this feature. My 18.5" Insignia remote from several years ago had a much better remote. Fortunately, it works on this TV for these buttons.
•Only 720p, but that's to be expected for as cheap as this TV is.
•Not a "smart" TV, but with a fire stick and HDMI CEC who cares?
•By default the TV has "overscan" turned on. Turn it off if you wish to see all of your menus on a media player. Otherwise they get cut off.
Bottom Line
This is a very affordable bedroom or dorm TV. Any of the newer "stick" media players will bring back better "smart" functions than a smart TV would, and the TV will pass through the signal from the remote to the media player as if the TV itself was smart. It works as intended, and is a bargain considering it supports some of the features from newer TVs. Just plan on getting a better remote if you wish to use Inlink/CEC. The included one is terrible.

Will this Roku TV work as a regular tv? Such as watching our regular TV channels "without" drawing down on the home wi-fi if we choose? Or is it an Internet only kind of thing that will always operate off the Wi-Fi when it is turned on?

Yes. All of your TV inputs and the over-the-air tuner or cable TV service show as "channels" to select from the home screen of the Roku interface. Once you launch the TV "channel" you just press up or down on the remote to change channels. To exit live TV, press the "home" button on the remote and choose any other app. It's very friendly for watching live TV as the inputs are all part of the graphic interface. Mine is hooked up to free over-the-air broadcasts and works beautifully.

Soundbar problem

I recently purchased an LG soundbar for my Sharp Aqous TV and Sony Blu Ray player. I have an optical digital cable connecting the TV to the Sound bar, which works properly when the TV input is on. However, when I change the input to the Blu Ray player (connected with HDMI cable), the sound bar doesn't work. I moved the optical cable to connect the Blu Ray player to the soundbar and that works, but I didn't want to use 2 optical cables if not necessary. Shouldn't the output sound from the Blu Ray player and TV both travel through the same optical cable? I have the same issue with a DVD/VCR combo.
You might need to turn off HDMI ARC (under Inlink in the TV menu). The TV tries to pass the audio from the HDMI 1 port via HDMI by default. Make sure you have ARC turned off. That would be my best guess.

Does TV have cd capability?

I think you mean DVD? And no, there is no optical drive on this TV. You can hook up any player to the TV though, as it has all standard inputs.

Why wouldn't you be able to? It has all of the standard HDTV hookups. Should work fine.

Can the stand legs be moved towards the center?

No. You can wall mount it, but the stand only has placement for the screws on the sides of the TV. It's like this on most TVs now. I hate it too.
