Blue Valentine is a film I discovered after being mesmerized by Cianfrance's The Place Beyond The Pines. Much like Pines, what sets Blue Valentine apart from the rest of contemporary cinema is the raw & uncompromising authenticity which is truly unmatched in terms of realism. Gosling & Williams give two of the best performances I've seen in recent memory, and this is a film which will definitely stick with you for quite some time. Highly recommended.

What's not so great: Nothing! This is a perfect film

Around The Fur is without question one of the best alternative rock/metal releases of the 1990s. Each song is perfect in its execution, and this record was a huge leap for the Deftones in terms of embracing a more dynamic approach that wasn't all aggro like on Adrenaline. Be Quiet and Drive, My Own Summer, and Around The Fur are some of the strongest singles in the Deftones' catalog, tracks which remain radio and live staples... Highly recommended, essential listening 10/10

What's great about it: Change in songwriting approach, quality of each track, Stef's guitar playing, Chino's vocals
What's not so great: Nothing! This is a flawless record.

Nothing more can be said about the White Pony other than that it is the Deftones' greatest achievement, and undoubtedly one of the greatest hard rock releases of all time. Every track is absolutely perfect, and each time you revisit this record it feels as if it is the first time you are ever hearing it. Highly recommended, essential listening... 10/10

What's not so great: The inclusion of Back To School (Mini Maggit) on the reissue

Koi No Yokan is undoubtedly one of the Deftone's best records. An album which is a collection of perfectly sequenced songs that seem to transport you to another world while listening to them. Fans of the bands classic eras should have no problem embracing this new material.

Saturday Night Wrist, while not the best record in the Deftones catalog, is a vastly overlooked and underrated record. Many did not embrace the darker, more experimental component of this particular eras sound and thus dismissed it as the weakest entry. It is a record with some very well written songs (Combat, Xerces, Rapture) which many are unfamiliar with which I consider to be some of the best songs the band has written.

What's great about it: Dynamic/Experimental songwriting, Darker vibe
What's not so great: Mein should have not been released as a single

Diamond Eyes was an excellent return to form for the Deftones after polarizing a vast majority of their fan base with Saturday Night Wrist (an excellent but challenging record). On Diamond Eyes Stef Carpenter makes the switch from 7 to 8 string guitars very nicely, and the band sounds excellent playing with Sergio Vega for the first time on a studio album.

What's not so great: 1-2 filler tracks

Full Metal Jacket is not only Kubrick's best film, but arguably the greatest war film ever made. It is a haunting experience which is truly unshakable, and one of those films that you will immediately want to revisit after you first see it. Highly recommended for fans of Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and other Vietnam classics.

What's not so great: Nothing! This is one of those rare films which is as close to perfection as one can get in cinema

Zero Dark Thirty delivers an uncompromising look at America's tireless hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Kathryn Bigelow has crafted a film with technical precision that is truly an unforgettable experience. Easily one of the best films of 2012, and one which should have garnered more Academy Award wins.

Les Miserables is undoubtedly one of the most cherished musicals of all time. The 2012 film features brilliant performances from Hathaway (Academy Award Winner), Crowe, and Jackman. The cinematography and direction captures the classic essence of the story and music all while crafting something contemporary and exciting. Highly recommended!
