I was wondering how they would tie the two casts together, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. This is a great SciFi/Action film that has an interesting story line. It rounded out several more characters. In fact, I would say it is one of the best films of the franchise, and well worthy of adding to the library. The audio and video are very near reference quality. The extra features are numerous and interesting to watch. However, if you have not purchased it yet, there may be an extended version released in the future to get people like me to double dip. If you are not interested in waiting, then I say get it now.

Didn't know what to expect, was not disappointed

I didn't know much about this movie before I bought it, other than a SciFi action flick starting Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Which, by themselves, could mean a good film. This movie comes as highly recommended by several professional reviewers, and I agree. Non-stop action, and an interesting storyline. Even the time shift sequences are taken with an unique approach and keeps you engaged. This is basically an action film, but the comedy touches keep the story line fresh. I knew I was adding it to the library before I was it, but after watching was very happy I made the purchase.
The audio and video are at or near reference/demo quality status. Audio at MA 7.1, will keep you on the edge of your seat. The special features provide a good set of extras.

The second is better than the original

We are now waiting for the third sequel to be released. This edition is much better than watching on TV, and was must for my library. Waiting to get a good deal on the first film (they ran out of the first when bought this one). The quality is better than expected, but remember this is a B-movie made for TV. As noted in the title, this movie is much better than the original, especially considering how much of a spoof film it is. Over the top is not an understatement. It's on its way to cult classic status.

While I do put this on the recommend to a friend category, you have to take a couple of things into account for this type of comedy. As noted above, there is a lot of bathroom style humor in this film. However, the actors do portray characters well, and if you watch closely there are a number of cameos. I added it to my library, but after watching it, unless you are a move collector, I would say it is a toss up for rental vs. purchase. The video quality is excellent, and audio is very good. Extras are not extensive, but interesting to view.

Why isn't Gravity in your library yet?

Not many movies are surprising in presentation. It is a refreshing change to see a movie developed and filmed with such a simplistic plot but so well executed. Breathtaking describes not only the picture and audio, but the script and acting. There's a reason for an academy award.
The 2D video is reference quality (have not watched 3D version). Although have not watched 3D version yet, all reviews have raved on the 3D version, and I could imagine why. Audio is near-demo worthy 5.1 MA, although a 7.1 treatment may have been better. The number of HD extras were surprising, and generally very good.

What are you waiting for, upgrage to the Blu-ray

Still as good as it was when viewed at midnight showing in college back in 1981.
The Blu-ray version was a nice upgrade (have previous DVD version). The video (1.66:1 aspect ratio) is excellent, and although not reference quality and there is some grain, couldn't expect a much better transfer. The audio is a surprising 7.1 MA treatment, and the mix is amazing. The HD extras are also excellent, and plenty to keep you busy for a while.

If you have a TiVo, you need to get a Mini

With the cable companies charging for every cable card, using the Mini is perfect as it allows you to use your TiVo experience on another TV with out a cable card. You do need a 4 or 6 tuner TiVo. I've used both the Premier 4XL and the Roamio Plus and they work great. If you do more than one Mini, you are better using the Roamio's as they have dynamic tuner assignment. Once tied to a 4 or 6 tuner model, you can access all other newer TiVos. Although won't access older original HD models.
Comcast On Demand access for the TiVo was released back in June 2014 in the Atlanta area. This also works through the Mini.
Liked it so much that I set up my mother with my old XL and a mini when replacing Dish.
There have been some specials on the Mini with lifetime programming. Look for lifetime programming.
