Former Bob Newhart Show regular Peter Bonerz takes over the directing reigns for Police Academy 6, which comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials are limited to a brief making-of featurette, featuring new interviews with some of the cast and crew, and the original theatrical trailer. This is a fine release that will probably satisfy fans of the Police Academy franchise.

Not Quite Up to Par, But Acceptable
on May 6, 2008

Similar to 'Police Academy 4,' this 6th installment is not quite up to par with the other previous films of the series, but it's not completely awful either. Recommended to fans of the series.

Alan Myerson occupied the director's chair for Police Academy 5, which comes to DVD with a full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original aspect ratio of the film. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials are limited to a brief making-of featurette, featuring new interviews with some of the cast and crew, and the original theatrical trailer. This is a fair release that will probably satisfy fans of the Police Academy franchise.

Another Good One
on May 6, 2008

This 5th 'Police Academy' installment helps get the series back on track after the rather disappointing 'Police Academy 4.' Once again, the return of most of the usual cast members is the films strength, and makes for a rather enjoyable comedy experience. Recommended!

Police Academy 4: Citizen on Patrol makes its debut on DVD with a standard full-frame image. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a making-of featurette and the theatrical trailer. While not the best of the Police Academy DVDs, this disc should still please fans of the series.

One of The Weakest of the Series
on May 6, 2008

'Police Academy 4' was kind of a disappointment. It wasn't quite as bad as the last film, but it certainly left a lot to be desired, especially to those who were fans of the first three. Full-screen, sparse extras.

Excellent Bargain!

This 2-disc set features all the same materials as the regular dvd releases, at almost half the cost. These are also the two best films of the 'Police Academy' series, so save yourself some money and purchase them together. You can't go wrong.

My Favorite of The Series

'Police Academy 3' is my personal favorite film of the series, and I still crack up every time I watch it. Bobcat Goldthwait is just hysterical. Highly recommended! Widescreen, sparse extras.

Supplemental materials are limited to a brief making-of featurette, featuring new interviews with some of the cast and crew, and the original theatrical trailer. Superior Sequel

I actually thought this second film in the 'Police Academy' series was better than the original. Very funny, with most of the original cast returning. Highly recommended. Widescreen, sparse extras.

Hugh Wilson's popular comedy Police Academy gets a loving 20th anniversary DVD release from Warner Bros. on this disc. The film is presented in a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. English and French soundtracks are faithfully rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. The high point of the extra materials is the commentary track featuring star Steve Guttenberg, G.W. Bailey, sound-effects maker extraordinaire Michael Winslow, Leslie Easterbrook, producer Paul Maslansky, and director Wilson. The group is obviously proud of the film, and has a blast reminiscing. Their good spirits are infectious. The 30-minute making-of featurette is also well done, containing interviews with some of the people who did not take part in the commentary and ending on a bittersweet note with a clip from the deceased David Graf (Tackleberry), who talks about how happy he is if this film is his legacy. This is a solid release from Warner Bros. and is easily the best of all the Police Academy discs.

I Enjoyed This Series of Films
on May 6, 2008

While not top-notch entertainment, 'Police Academy' is still quite enjoyable, and has plenty of material to keep you laughing. Even better, is that the first couple of sequels were actually superior to this first film. Widescreen and decent bonus features, including ensemble cast commentary. Recommended!

Ben Stiller's The Cable Guy managed to be considered a box-office failure while still making close to 100 million dollars. The film comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while Spanish and French soundtracks are recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. Spanish and Korean subtitles are accessible, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials are basically nonexistent. Though this is not a favorite of Jim Carrey's fans, completists will be happy to have this fine-looking, and sounding, version of the film available on home video.

Unappreciated Movie
on May 6, 2008
Posted by: kevman79
It's my opinion that of all his films, Jim Carrey's most unappreciated is 'The Cable Guy.' Geniusly scripted and well acted, 'Cable Guy' was generally criticized as being too dark. Well, I thought it was a riot and I recommend it to all. One note though, the 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen dvd version has been discontinued for some odd reason, and now all you can get is this cropped 1.33:1 version. Die hard fans may want to try and track down the now out-of-print widescreen copy, if you can find it.

Classic Musical

To be honest, I must admit I'm not a personal fan of 'Grease.' However, I would be wrong to say that it's not a good movie. One of America's most beloved musicals, this dvd is sure to please fans of the film. Widescreen and ample bonus features. Recommended to fans.
