This stylish version of Stoker's Dracula is a near miss. It's fairly well acted and the cinamatography is pretty impressive but its a little too stylish for its own good. But worth a look either way.
What's great about it: Mostly true to the book
What's not so great: Stylish in a bad way

Transferred to DVD in a widescreen anamorphic picture format (1.85:1), this film comes with only a single audio track option, Dolby 2.0 Stereo, a deficit partly compensated by the DTS Surround Sound. Closed-captioning is also included. Among the bonus features are an audio commentary by actors David Naughton and Griffin Dunne; interviews with Rick Baker and John Landis; a making-of documentary/featurette; production stills, notes, and storyboards; and the usual theatrical trailers. Picture quality is what would be expected from an '80s film brought over to a DVD version.

One scary punim

All I have to say is..."A naked American man stole my balloonknot"...(boy in the zoo)
This is a classic horror movie...still scary as heck 25 years later. Great effects for the time and still impressive. Give me Rick Baker over CGI any day...(we'll see how he does with the new Wolf Man).
A considerable gripe however...when David is trying to get the Constable (who's responstable) to arrest him he gives up too easliy. He simply confesses to the murders and then makes a few disparaging comments about the Royal Family (albeit probably accurate). He then gives up on trying to get arrested??? Why not slug the Bobby in the kisser?!? Anything to get arrested, steal a car...etc...???
That notwithstanding, great movie!!!
What's great about it: Very scary, great effects
What's not so great: David doesn't try hard enough...

This is a wonderful story for young children....some of the Disney cartoons are difficult to understand for 3 year olds (not ours, but for some I would imagine)...this is a very simple and easy to follow story...

What's not so great: Nada

We love the Peewee
on October 16, 2008

We absolutley love the Peewee. I was a huge color gaurd geek/nerd in high-school so most of the guys I dated or hung out with were like Peewee. My husband is the dashing, handsome, leading-man type and he's also a brilliant man. But it's nice to watch the Peewee and remember back to my days on the Island of Misfit Toys as it were. Livvy the punim loves the Peewee too.
What's great about it: The Peewee
What's not so great: Simone is beat

Image on TV is smaller than screen.

New LCD TV has 3 screen size options: one cuts off top & bottom of image, one stretches image sideways, and one is normal but much smaller than the actual screen. TVs on display at Best Buy all had images that were proportionate and filled screen.
Do we need HDTV service to get large image/fill screen? Thanks!
My guess would be that you're watching a standard definition source...as in non-HD...this will usually be in 4:3 instead of 16:9 ratio so you'll have the black bars on the sides...you can stretch the image depending your TV's settings...
HD video such as a bluray...HD cable...etc should fit perfectly...also, most standard DVD's are in 16:9 so they should fit perfectly as well...

Your only problem should be with standard definition cable...

Best TV

What's the difference between LCD and Plasma TV's?
Not a whole lot anymore...price aside...

LCD's tend to have less accurate colors

Plasma's tend to have better color accuracy and much deeper blacks...these are related issues

Plasma's have traditionally handled fast motion better but the LCD's have really improved in this area...

LCD's can be brighter...but this may or may not be a good thing...

I prefer a plasma as I believe they have a better image overall...

However, a top of the line LCD will likely be better than a cheapo plasma and vice versa...

Lastly, you can find some really good deals on plasma's right now...there is a Panasonic 50' plasma for a little over $1000...it's only 720p but I firmly believe that 1080p is not worth the extra $1000+ you'll pay for it...I challenge you to see the difference...especially a $1000 difference...
