While the movie as a whole is only fair to good depending on what kind of movie fan you are, it was my favorite movie of the summer so far. As a former Marine, I can tell you it has one of the more accurate portrayals of how Marine's really are and how they act in battle, albeit the character development could have been much better. The movie plays out more like a Black Hawk Down type of movie. It may not be a great "movie" in the artistic sense, but it is very entertaining, and if you're former military I'm sure you'll very much enjoy it. Aaron Eckhart did an amazing job as the rugged platoon leader and helped make the movie, without him it could have been much worse.
I bought the disc on the day was released and put it in my samsung 3D player and nothing. I took it back for an exchange and again nothing. After contacting samsung about this and doing some research on the web. I have found that it will not work if you have a Samsung blu ray player or Sony players until there is a firmware upgrade.
MANY new movies that come out require firmware updates. If these reviews are correct, I suppose you should never try buying a new release for fear that it may not work with your Blu Ray player that has never been updated. The fact that people give movies a bad review because of their blu ray player is laughable. Fact of the matter is, all blu ray players need updates from time to time as the newer blu rays require certain updates to play them. Don't degrade a movie rating because of this. It's the tale of technology. If we want to continue as consumers to get better media we have to allow technology an avenue to grow. This is tons better than having to buy a new Blu Ray player every year, now all we have to do is download an update.
