I decided to upgrade from my Epson 2030 to something with a little more power. I looked at JVC 4k projectors, but was worried about the gaming lag. My search then ended up between the Sony vpl-40es and the Epson 5030ub. I ended up going with the Epson since I already had 4 pairs of 3D compatible glasses. (ps: the samsung glasses are compatible with Epson projectors) Out of the box this projector showed some improvements over my previous projector, but it wasn't anything that I would call a major upgrade. Once I calibrated using the Disney Wow disc the picture improved dramatically. I can honestly say that the picture is comparable or better than any 1080p HDTV. My wife thought it looked better than the 4K TVs she saw at the store. Her only complaint was that the picture was too bright and clear! I calibrated on living room and THX modes. I use living room mode most of the time, but will switch to THX mode when watching shows with my wife at night. THX is darker than the other modes and I would only recommend using it at night and in a completely dark room. Some people have complained about the noise with the Epson projectors, but there is an easy way to turn it off. I just switched to ECO mode under the settings menu and there is virtually no sound. The only time I ever hear the fan is in 3D mode. There is no way to change the setting to a lower output in any of the 3D modes. I guess the little fan noise is worth it because the 3D on this is amazing! Seriously, even if you have hated 3D at the theater, you need to try watching on this projector. It is the clearest and brightest 3D I have ever seen! Epson even includes 2 pairs of glasses in the box. I couldn't be happier with the decision to buy this projector. I would recommend to anyone who buys this to consider calibrating the picture. I would be happy to share my settings to anyone who is having problems.
This Sony BDPS6500 Blu-ray player features built-in Wi-Fi. To build a complete 3D home theater system, we recommend you purchase a 3D TV, 3D glasses designed for the TV, high-speed HDMI cable and an A/V receiver that is compatible with 3D products.

I purchased this blu ray player about a week ago to replace my Panasonic 3D blu ray player. I do not have a 4k television and was curious if the picture would be an improvement over my previous blu ray player. I watch my movies on a 120 inch screen with the Epson 2030 projector. I also have a dolby atmos setup and at first thought I would have to return this player since I couldn't find the bitstream option on the audio settings. I ended up finding the setting I needed to change to make sure it supported atmos output. I have watched a 3 movies to demo the picture quality and sound. The Expendables 3, to test the atmos. The atmos mix sounded as good as ever and I also noticed that the picture was noticeably sharper and the color looked more vibrant. I also have watched The Hobbit and Ant-man in 3D. Both looked fantastic in 3D and I didn't notice any cross talk that some reviewers claimed to have seen. I have thought about purchasing the Oppo blu ray player, but I can't justify spending $500 on a blu ray player. Currently, I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and will update my review if I have any issues or thoughts that might be beneficial to someone thinking about purchasing this player.
I am going to focus on the 3D aspect of the movie since that is what people are most likely to be curious about. I was one of the fans who was excited to see this movie in 3D in theaters only to find out that they decided to release in 2D only. So when I saw Best Buy was selling part 1 and 2 in 3D I was very excited. This is one of the worst 3D transfers of any 3D blu ray released on the market (and I have seen Clash of the Titans in 3D). There is little to no 3D effect through out the whole movie. Not worth a purchase if you were thinking about it. Part 2 on the other hand looks great in 3D on blu ray.
