Really not very good
on September 24, 2008

This movie was very funny in spots, but overall it was pretty awful. There were eight of us who watched it together, with a wide variety of tastes, and all of us were disappointed. While there were some very funny lines, there was a lot more groaning--both out of nausea and embarrassment--than laughter.
What's great about it: Some very funny lines
What's not so great: Boring plot, terrible lines

Dull

I'm hard pressed to say why I didn't care for this movie. The atmosphere just felt off--kind of wilted, which is interesting, because I hadn't realized how similar in feel the three previous films had been. Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood seemed like a watered down version of her original character, and Harrison Ford felt forced and stilted as Indiana Jones. Shia LaBeouf brought an energy to the Crytal Skull that may have been the most on target in terms of the feel of the original films. In spite of that, however, the movie just wasn't that much fun to watch.
What's not so great: Just not very exciting

Surprisingly Good

I wasn't sure what to expect when I went to see this film; so many movies masquerade as comedies in the trailer, only to turn, once they've lured you in, into vile, sentimental, boring, and ultimately depressing stories about loss and what it means to be defeated (like, as a lifestyle). This movie, on the other hand, is what it advertises: a comedy. And though there are some heartfelt moments, the film never feels like it's going down and bent on taking you with it. Mila Kunis is great and extremely appealing, as is Russell Brand, the story is interesting and in many ways original, and the supporting cast does a fantastic job of bringing depth and a substantial feel to the scenes. Well worth the time and money.
What's great about it: Good performances, well written
What's not so great: Bit of a slow patch toward the end

FANTASTIC MOVIE!!!!

This movie was great! The plot was interesting, with appealing characters to move it along. The actors played their parts well and handled the dialogue lightly. Definitely worth watching, and I'm DELIGHTED that I saw it in the theater. For those of you who have impressively large televisions and surround sound systems (I do not, sadly; yeah, 27" SD TV, right here) this movie should translate well to your living room, and for those of you who don't, it's still worth owning.
What's great about it: Techie stuff, action, humor
What's not so great: I'm sorry, I don't understand the question.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This movie is exactly what its preview would have you believe. If you find the trailer appealing, you'll like the movie as well. I didn't care for the movie, with the exception of Sydney Pollack's performance, which was delightful. The movie is worth renting just to fast foward to scenes showcasing his performance.
What's great about it: Sydney Pollack
What's not so great: In my opinion, almost everything else
