The DVD of Warner's Rock Star has a lot going for it, even with a few faults. The image, the strongest part of this disc, is simply amazing. Framed at 2.35:1, and anamorphic, it shows no flaws at all. As a matter of fact, this is one of those transfers that could possibly be better than the theatrical experience. Colors are vibrant, and since they are such a vital element to the film, they are always noticeable. The sound, a very robust 5.1 English track, is primarily centered upfront, with only a minimal use of the surrounds. Still, the track is strong, but sadly isn't what would be hoped for. Still, it shouldn't disappoint. As for the extra material, what is listed on the box is a bit misleading. Not that those supplements aren't there, they are just a little weaker than what it seems. The main point of interest is a commentary from director Stephen Herek. He does offer a good amount of information on the making of the film, but, unfortunately, there are significant gaps where he goes silent. As for the rest, they don't amount to much. A four-minute fluff piece with some brief interviews and behind-the-scenes shots, though of course welcome, isn't very much to go on and only leaves you wanting more. Beyond that is an entertaining music video from Everclear, the theatrical trailer, and filmographies for the two stars and director.
