The short-lived Comedy Central series TV Funhouse was the brainchild of longtime Saturday Night Live scribe Robert Smigel and grew out of a recurring SNL sketch of the same name. The conceit of the program involved both satirizing vintage animation styles (such as the Hanna-Barbera-Filmation cartoons of the '80s) and busting dozens of taboos, courtesy of a cast of irreverent puppets called the Anipals. With this in mind, Smigel, co-creator Dino Stamatopoulos and others designed TV Funhouse to be as outrageous and as aggressively tasteless as possible. Bits included puppet sodomy of live animals, characters who devoured excrement, and a puppet panda that exploded on camera, showing innards everywhere. This box set features the entire series.
