The Amazing Rooster Teeth Saga Continues....
on May 31, 2017

Beacon was a shining sample of peace. It was a place where those who wanted to make a difference in the world could go and learn. One of a handful of such places in the world of Remnant. Lead by Headmaster Ozpin.
After the events of Season 3...Beacon has fallen. All but abandoned to the encroaching Grimm. Professor Ozpin is missing, assumed dead. Humanity's grasp on peace and control in the world has been been fractured and is slipping. Team JNPR is no more after Pyrrah's sacrifice in an attempt to stop Cinder from escaping Beacon Tower. Team RWBY has splintered. Ruby now joins the remains of Team JNPR to form Team RNJR, to continue the fight against the Grimm, Cinder and other evil forces, under the watchful eyes of her Uncle Qrow. Yang, after suffering traumatic injury during the Battle of Beacon, goes into a time of self evaluation. Weiss has been taken back to Atlas by her Father, supposedly for her protection, but she quickly finds things at home are not what her Father would have her see. And then there is Blake, who feels a lot of guilt over the events in the Battle of Beacon, in particular those involving the injury to Yang. Seeking to find her own answers, and peace, she returns home to Menagerie, the 'homeland' of the Faunus. Only to find that the treachery that has taken over the once peaceful White Fang has made its way not only to Menagerie, but to her own front door.
Follow 4 amazing young women, and others as well, who must face the world with everything they had known and believed in shattered. It is time to grow as individuals, and to learn to work both alone, and together with others. The story of RWBY departs the quiet area of Vale, bringing the entire of the World of Remnant finally to the forefront, along with a personal vendetta on behalf of the injured, yet more powerful, Cinder Fall.
Rooster Teeth has made an excellent fantasy adventure to follow up the success of Red vs Blue. A show that features its share of comedy, drama and action. With an excellent cast and featuring updated animation production, RWBY Volume 4 will introduce you to the "rest of the story" and prepare you for world shattering confrontations yet to come. Bring your sword, some dust and a box of tissues. RWBY gets real.

Space Opera At Its Best - Leijiverse Must See!
on May 31, 2017

This was the second work involving Japan legend Leiji Matsumoto I watched. The first was known in the US as Star Blazers. I originally watched a severely cut down, watered down version on VHS called "Vengeance of the Space Pirate". It wasn't until I found an old DVD in the 90s of Arcadia that I saw the entire story for Captain Harlock. While Arcadia of My Youth (or My Youth in Arcadia, as it has also been released under) makes a great story as a stand alone, it also sets up an entry point into the Leijiverse for other stories, such as the rest of the story as started in this film. It also is an entry into the stories of Tochiro and Emeraldas as well as ties into the Galaxy Express 999 (Galaxy Express Three Nine) and other associated stories. If you enjoy Star Wars and/or Anti Hero stories, then check this film out. This anime offering is an action adventure in which Earth fights a war...and loses. Yet the Human Spirit seems can never be truly crushed. From the Engineering know how and sheer guts of little Tochiro, to the bravery and determination of Harlock as well as the honorable Zoll of Tocarga, this story will hold your imagination for the entire run.

This light hearted release from the romantic comedy anime series Fruits Basket includes all 26 episodes of the show, following the story of a quirky girl named Tohru Honda, who learns that the boy of her dreams is from a family burdened with a magical curse that turns them into animals if they're embraced by someone of the opposite gender - and she's the only one who knows.

For Being Truncated, Not Bad

Usually, I find myself trying to write a plot synopsis here. This time, I am going to be able to resist, but you should not resist watching this entertaining series. While the voice acting it not to terribly off and the script it not to terribly diced and botched in translation, the anime series takes liberties with the story itself that leave one feeling a little less than satisfied. There is so much more, some of it not nearly as light hearted, to this story. For what it does cover, the anime does well, though a better explanation of what Kyo's condition is might help one better at the end of the anime series, which is about the midway point or so, if memory serves, in the Manga.
The music is light, the cockiness or lack there of of the voice actors covering the original Japanese adds to the idea of what each character truly represents. Like certain seasons of Sailor Moon, changes were made and events omitted, but it is still a fun watch and is another entry in Anime imported to the US that shows that the style isn't just about gratuitous...over emphasis of certain anatomy parts, but rather that good stories can also be found.
If you enjoy this, I would also like to recommend Sakura Wars (available here at bestbuy.com), especially if you have an appreciation for Steampunk. :)
What's great about it: Not too awfully diced up
What's not so great: Does not cover entire story arc from manga well

They Don't Make 'Em Like This No' Mo'

Wayne and O'Hara pair up in many of the classic pieces, but this one may be their best effort together. Wayne plays the wiley and grizzled Jacob McCandles, estranged husband to Maureen's character, who oversees the McCandles ranch in Texas. A gang of banditos crosses the border from Mexico, staging the "infamous McCandles Raid" as the announcer terms it. Their grandson, played by Wayne's son Ethan, is kidnapped and held for ransom. He decides, along with his ex-wife, that he should be the one who makes the trip. Along the way Jacob and his two sons, James (James Wayne) and Michael (Chris Mitchum) struggle to understand their father, as he tries to keep both of them out of the cemetery. It is also during this trip, he finds out that kidnapped boy is named Jacob (called Little Jake) in his honor. The final, climactic battle between the McCandles and the Banditos includes the expected Wayne wit and guile that trademarks most of his pictures. Boone plays a great lead villain.
It is about time this film got a good remaster. The original prints were a little grainy, but to see this picture up close and personal really makes you feel like you are in that turn of the century Texas/Mexico border area, where banditos still ran free and vigilantes still had their place. Given that it doesn't rely on stop-motion effects, the film holds up rather well in it's improved state and could provide a surprise for someone who has not seen it before, with the plot, gun fights and even more jokes, gags and funny comments than you can shake a can of Yonkers Peaches at!
What's great about it: Great Movie for a New Generation
What's not so great: Not a lot of extras that could be added, but still worth it for the film alone.

What Is This Movie...Really?

Potential Spoilers Below.
This film (actually filmed in Canada) follows Franklin Hart, once a great Formula One racing star, who changed his tune when the US outlawed the use of petroleum based fuel for transports. With the US now getting by on electric trains and bicycles, Hart settles into what for him is a miserable life, where he sings the praises of the new policy in seminars he gives as one who has seen the errors of his past ways and wants to encourage others. His life is made even more miserable when a plague sweeps through, killing a large number of people, including Mr. Hart's wife.
One day, he decides he has had enough. Retrieving his cleverly hidden and preserved Porche racing machine, he (and a young Chris Makepeace, playing a computer geek) set off in an attempt to seek freedom. The State of California has refused this new policy and set itself up as the 'Free State of California.' Hart decides to use his car to make a run for it.
The Government, desperate to stop him before he gets too far, brings in an old fighter pilot (excellently played by Burgess Meredith) and outfit him with a Sabre Jet and all the weapons and fuel (not sure where his comes from) he needs to end the mad dash. However the crusty old pilot, a true Patriot at heart, refuses to kill the fleeing duo, instead finding a "chance to wear medals" one last time, allowing the duo to make their escape to California, leaving the Government sure that now people will once again yearn for transportation, for freedom to travel about.
The under appreciated character of Mr. Morley, the 'gopher' for the agency attempting to foil Hart's escape, rides the same roller coaster of emotions that the audience feels. His respect and affection developed for the old Pilot is really a nice, tragic bit of work, which usually gets lost.
Most of the scenes are obviously not filmed in the best light, but this film was a little less about the effects and more about the (tired and worn out) cleverly delivered story line. Also, the occasional joke is inserted, thanks to appearances by Smokey Bear and a truck full of cans of Coca Cola.
I'm doing 4 stars on this film because it is one of my favorite cult classics that has yet to get a mass DVD release. While nothing is earth shatteringly remarkable about this movie, if you want a good sit down and watch a 'light fair' sort of action movie with some laughs, a little action and one sweet paint job on a Sabre Jet, this is the film for you!
What's great about it: It's about time this thing got released!
What's not so great: Not sure if digitizing the original film will improve the quality.

A Better Synopsis
on January 3, 2009

An excellent trip back into our youth, of rushing home headlong from the bus stop, tossing ones school books in an unkempt pile on the couch and planting ourselves before the TV for an hour after a hard day of school. Ah, memories...
Synopsis:
Prince Adam (He-Man) is summoned by the Sorceress of Castle Greyskull for an important mission. Accompanied by Cringer, the Prince is told that it is time for him to make a special journey. He passes through a gateway within the Castle and emerges in the world of Etheria. Through adventure, Adam and He-Man wind up supporting the planets Rebellion against the oppressive Horde and their leader, Hordack. They must be confronted if Adam is to complete his mission, to deliver a near duplicate of his own sword to a special person on Etheria. This journey will change He-Man's life, as he learns a secret carefully guarded from him for his entire life...until now.
What's great about it: What a set up for a spinoff!
What's not so great: There's a need in spots for connecting material...

And So It Ends...
on July 8, 2008

And so Teen Titans comes to an end. We also learn about the life of Beast Boy. What did he do before becoming a Titan?
Then there is the question of what to do with all of the honorary Titans, even with Titans East now established, where does it go from here?
Add to this the story of the formation of the Teen Titans and a surprise return in the final episode of a friend long thought gone and you have the makings of a final season that will make you want more. Alas, there is no more.
I is best to follow this up by watching "Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo" if you need another fix. While not the best mix of episodes, the seaons flows fluidly and will have you sitting on the edge of your seat by the time we find out Robin has a secret, but will the secret get out?
A season full of twists, turns, tear jerkers and, oh yeah, that one guy who...
What's great about it: Extras and entire season
What's not so great: Its the last season :(
