I enjoyed this miniseries because it is based on American history. It is about two families and their stuggles as the white man moved westward into Indian territory. The culture and life stuggles of the American Indian and the pioneers of the west was depicted very realistically and it draws you in.
What's great about it: based on American history
What's not so great: contains violent scenes

This movie has been around for awhile, but is one of my favorite comedies. I love the humor and it is also packed with adventure. I bought the dvd instead of renting because it is one of those movies that is great to have around and watch from time to time.
What's great about it: a funny fairy tale
What's not so great: none

A young couple finds that the apartment of their dreams includes the neighbor from hell in this comedy, which has been given a solid presentation for its release on DVD. Duplex has been given two transfers for this edition -- one letterboxed in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 (and enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors) and another pan-and-scanned at the full-screen ratio of 1.33:1. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1; viewers may choose between the original English-language soundtrack and a dubbed version in French, while Spanish subtitles are also included. Bonus materials include a short documentary on the making of the film and several deleted scenes.

I purchased this movie because I like Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore, but what a waste of money. The movie is about a couple who try to kill an elderly lady because they want her apartment. I personally did not care for the bad and truly sick humor throughout the entire movie.
What's great about it: Ben Stiller, Drew Barrymore
What's not so great: vulgarity, poor humor

Adapted from the bestselling 1968 novel by Catherine Marshall, the drama series Christy ran for two seasons on CBS, from 1994 through 1995. Life Goes On mainstay Kellie Martin toplines as the title character - 19-year-old Christy Huddleston. She's a young woman from a life of privilege and luxury, who was raised in a cosmopolitan community around the turn of the 20th Century. Her life changes dramatically, however, when she accepts a position as schoolteacher in an impoverished small town nestled amid the Great Smoky Mountains. As she looks to her Christian faith for support and encouragement, she also struggles to make a dramatic impact in the lives of her hyoung students. Cagney & Lacey's Tyne Daly co-stars as a quaker woman who becomes an integral part of Christy's new life. This box set contains all episodes from Seasons One and Two.

This is a story about a young girl who goes to the Appalachian Mountains to teach at a missionary school. It is a nice movie with beautiful scenery of the Smokey Mountains. The people who live in Cutter Gap are very poor and this movie depicts the poverty and the pride of the people who lived there.
What's great about it: family movie

NASA engineer Homer H. Hickam, Jr.'s autobiography provided the basis for this drama about a teenager coming of age at the dawn of the space race. In 1957, Homer Hickam (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a high school student in Coalwood, West Virginia when the Soviet Union launches Sputnik, the first man-made satellite. While most of his friends and neighbors react with fear or distrust, Homer is instantly fascinated and begins studying everything he can find on jet and rocket design. While many of Homer's friends are puzzled by his new obsession, several new friends share his enthusiasm, and with the encouragement of his teacher (Laura Dern), Homer and his fellow "Rocket Boys" begin designing and launching their own homemade missiles. However, Homer's father (Chris Cooper) takes a dim view of his son's interest in rockets and is convinced Homer's future should be the same as his own, working in the local coal mines. October Sky mixes the drama of traditional family conflicts with a nostalgic glimpse of life in the mid-50's and a look at the earliest days of our journey into space.

This is truly an inspirational movie based on a true story about a young man who dreams of building rockets instead of working in the coal mine like his father. He and three friends work together, and this movie is about the hardships and obstacles they encounter to achieve their goal of launching a rocket and entering a science fair, with college scholarships as the prize.
What's great about it: Inspirational, based on a true story

This is probably my favorite movie of all time. This is a wonderful story about a young orphan who is sent to live with a couple who thought they were getting a boy to help with the farm. The couple are a middle-aged brother and sister. The scenery is beautiful and the actors are great.
What's great about it: romantic, great family movie
What's not so great: none

Gillian Armstrong's 1994 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's beloved novel is given an attractive presentation in this special edition DVD release. Little Women has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which is also enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The original English-language audio has been remixed for playback in Dolby Digital 5.1; a two-channel Dolby Surround mix is also included, as well as dubbed Dolby Digital Stereo tracks in Spanish and Portuguese. Optional subtitles are featured in English, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, Korean, and Thai. Bonus materials include a commentary track from director Gillian Armstrong, a pair of deleted scenes, two trivia games, a short documentary on the making of the picture, an insolated audio track featuring Thomas Newman's musical score, a gallery of the film's costume and production design sketches, biographies of the film's leading cast and crew, a timeline of events pertaining to the book and its film adaptations, and a copy of Alcott's original novel.

Good Movie

This is a heartwarming remake of the 1933 movie and I recommend it. I actually bought this thinking I was buying the original, but I was not disappointed at all. This is a clean movie about four sisters during the Civil War and their lives as they mature into adulthood. If you enjoy movies like Anne of Green Gables you will probably like Little Women.
What's great about it: family/romance movie
