This is one of Martin Scorsese's best pictures. It's a bit too much at times, but it's wickedly funny. It also features great performances from DiCaprio and Hill, as well as by Margot Robbie.

Resident Evil: Retribution is the fifth installment in the successfull Resident Evil series. The film picks up where Resident Evil: Afterlife left off.
Alice, now captured by the Umbrella Corporation, must escape and make her away across a series of sequences after learning that the human race faces total extinction under the hands of the Red Queen, who is now under complete control of Umbrella. Partnering with Wesker and newcomers Ada Wong and Leon S. Kennedy, Alice must reach the rest of the team before the underwater Umbrella facility implodes, losing all hope for the survival of the human race.
The Blu-ray audio and picture quality is beyond amazing. The storyline is also great, considering that it sets up the rest of the story that is to unravel in Resident Evil 6 & 7 (the final films in the series). My only complaint is that it feels too short. Other than that, it is highly recommended.

What's great about it: Picture & sound quality.
What's not so great: Length is too short.

Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon is a cinematic masterpiece. Every single shot in the almost 3 hour film looks like a painting from the time period that shameless social climber Redmond Barry dwelled in.
The film is slow-paced, which can throw many people off. But those with the persistence to finish it will find that the wait was well worth it. Barry Lyndon is a film that has not been paralleled since.
The extras are lacking in that only a trailer is included. While it is in high definition, it does not make up for the lack of other extras. Still, this is a purchase that I definitely recommend.

It will stay with you forever...and ever, and ever

As far as Kubrick's filmography on Blu-ray goes, 1980's The Shining is second to 2001: A Space Odyssey in picture quality and story.
The colors on the transfer are vibrant and striking. It is only after the door to room 237 opens that the film gives off a detached, uneasy tone. Suddenly, the atmosphere- in sound as well as in picture- drops. At this instant, the viewer starts to feel like something isn't going right, like there's something more to the bigger picture, of which only Jack Torrence can see.
Simply put, the film's transfer looks beautiful, and it has a sound track to match it. The extras aren't exactly 5-star material, though. The trailer is not in full high definition (although it is still eerie), and there's only so much that the featurettes can deliver. The commentary with Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown is one of the two special features that is really worth noting. The other is Vivian Kubrick's insightful mini-documentary that gives audiences that rare glimpse into the legendary's director's mindset while working on a film.
My first viewing of this film was on Blu-ray, and I cannot imagine seeing it any other way, except maybe on a large theater screen. Both the execution of Kubrick's film and it's haunting performances are those that stay with you forever... and ever, and ever.

What's great about it: Picture quality, making of documentary.
What's not so great: Trailer included is not in HD, otherwise, everything is great!

Badlands is acclaimed director Terrence Malick's first feature, which stars Sissy Spacek and Martin Sheen. Presented by The Criterion Collection in a new high definition 4K transfer approved by Malick himself, the Blu-ray is absolutely beautiful. The detail is amazing, and the sound track sounds really great (mastered in 24-Bit).
The supplements included in the Blu-ray are more than satisfactory, and they even include the original trailer in 1080p High Definition, left unrestored to give it the feel as if one had seen it in the theater back in the 70s (the film however has been digitally remastered).
This is a definite must-have Blu-ray for anyone who appreciates the unparalleled art form that is film, and the beauty that Malick so much encompasses in each of his poetic visual masterpieces.

The Last Days of Disco is charming in that it tries to relive the last days of a movement that freed millions on the dancefloor.
The opening sequence immediately captures one's attention; it depicts Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale's characters trying to get into a crowded Studio 54-like club. The rest of the story is great, but it could have been better. In some ways, it feels like it's more about the extra characters in the story than it is about reminiscing in the last days of disco.
The soundtrack is one that features many disco highlights, but unfortunately, almost every track feels similar to the previous one. I think that Whit Stillman, who wrote and directed the film, could have added better music to represent the last days of disco, although the Chic tracks are definitely spot-on.
As with many Criterion releases, the artwork is beautiful. But unlike most Criterion releases, The Last Days of Disco deems lacking in both special features, audio quality, and video quality most of all. Even the booklet that is always included with a Criterion- or maybe in this case, a pamphlet- is lacking content.
In all, The Last Days of Disco is recommended to those who love witty dialogue and music that helps define an era.
What's great about it: The acting, music, and bonus features.

Eyes Wide Shut is the final chapter in Stanley Kubrick's career that spanned early four decades.
Although dark and disturbing, Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick's best work. In many ways, it sums up everything Kubrick has ever done, as it features recurring themes found in some of his better known work, like 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining. The slow pacing and the fluid camera movements make for a hypnotic and enthralling picture.

What's not so great: PIcture quality could be better, but it's pretty great overall.
