Best Kitchen Scale!
on July 24, 2013

I never thought I'd refer to a kitchen scale as "my buddy," but I do. I use this kitchen scale primarily for weighing food for portions and servings. On a side note, I do quite a bit of cooking and baking and have loved the accuracy of a kitchen scale for that, but I primarily bought the scale to use in order to measure my portions of food. Prior to owning the Oxo scale, I had no real idea of what a true portion was. I was blown away once I started actually weighing my food to find that my ideas of a portion were way off. For example, thanks to the Good Grips scale, I now know what a serving of pasta truly is. I also realized that what I once thought was a serving was actually about 4 servings! That makes a huge difference when counting caloric intake! I've been using my Oxo scale in conjunction with my Fitbit One, Fitbit Aria scale, and the Fitbit and MyFitnessPal apps. This scale has proven to be an invaluable tool in helping me achieve and maintain my fitness goals. The zero feature on the scale is perfect for adding additional ingredients to an item. For instance, I will start by weighing a glass bowl. Once Oxo has determined the weight of the bowl, I hit the zero button and the scale is ready for me to add an item. If, for instance, I'm making yogurt, I can then add the yogurt I'm going to consume and then hit zero. Oxo is now ready for the next ingredient - either berries or granola. This scale has produced accurate results time and time again for me and it's measurements have been invaluable to me with regards to portion control. I have used this scale multiple times throughout the day for the past month and I absolutely love it! It is easy to read and with just the press of a button I can convert between ounces and grams. I really like the look of the blue backlighting on this unit as well. The light button illuminates the scale readings in a cool blue light. My only wish is that the light would remain on. The screen stays backlit but only for a several seconds. I would like at least the option to toggle the light on and leave it on. I'm sure the feature is to turn the backlighting off after a few seconds in order to conserve battery life, but it would be nice to have that option. One well thought aspect of this scale is the detachable face that allows for easy reading of measurements when large bowls or containers are on the scale. For normal every day measurements, I've found I don't need to remove the face. However, when measuring ingredients into a KitchenAid mixing bowl, it's nice to be able to move the face forward in order to easily see the measurements. The face is attached to the scale with a cord so it never actually detaches from the scale. The stainless steel is easy to clean and looks great with the other stainless appliances in our kitchen. This is a sleek scale that you won't mind displaying on your countertop! In my opinion, the scale is very well-built, thoughtfully designed, accurate, and attractive. I absolutely love it!

If you've got a Fitbit, you need this scale!

After owning and using my Fitbit religiously for about two weeks, I decided to spring for the Fitbit Aria scale to add to my program. The scale uses wifi to sync with the Fitbit app on my iPhone and my iMac. I set the scale up through my iMac and it was a snap. I was up and running in just a matter of minutes. The scale is set up to recognize myself and my wife and it has no problems delineating between us. To get the most accurate readings, the scale must be on a hard, flat surface and the user needs to be barefoot (for the body fat measurement). All I need to do is simply step on the scale for a few seconds for it to instantly recognize me and sync my weight and body fat info with my iMac and iPhone. The scale is a sleek and modern. It's very easy to read and I actually have no problems leaving it out in plain sight. I actually find that by looking at it, I'm reminded that I need to use it regularly. I weigh in once a week and all my data is instantly available on the Fitbit dashboard. I like being able to track my progress and the sync capabilities of this scale and it's integration within the Fitbit program and MyFitnessPal app make it worth the price. If I were just looking for a scale that measures body fat, I don't know that I'd spend the price to get this particular model although I do feel it is a well-built and accurate scale. I usually weigh in once a week at the same time and I've found the scale produces similar results at those weigh ins. I will usually take three measurements when I weigh in and there are never any wild fluctuations between these measurements. Even though the scale is fairly thin, I have found it to be sturdy and solid feeling. It has become an invaluable part of my fitness ecosystem and I have not regretted this purchase for a minute.

My sister gave me this Fitbit One several months ago. It sat and collected dust for those months. I knew I had it, but I didn't "have time" to mess with it. I finally decided to open it this past June and see what it was all about. The tiny black device is pretty sleek. There's only one button on the face of the unit and it was also packaged with a sleep wrist band and a clip so that the unit could be worn on the waistband of pants or shorts that have no pockets. I usually just wear mine by putting it in my pocket, but now that I've used it for over a month - I am never without it. It's funny how we can become so attached to gadgets and devices. The Fitbit One makes that a little easier with it's salutations. Whenever the device has been still for a bit and it detects movement (i.e. picking it up off of a table), it will display a message that always ends with the user's name. It's pretty cool when this little guy says "Let's Rock!" It gives it a bit of personality. I found using the Fitbit website very easy. Everything is laid out fairly straightforward. The main page is a dashboard and from there you can open tabs that have to do with specific topics: Log (where info on exercise, food, weight, sleep, journal, heart, bp, glucose are entered), community (boards/forums), and premium (part of a paid service that I haven't utilized yet). The Fitbit monitors the steps you take, it estimates the number of floors climbed, calories burned, distance traveled, and highly active minutes throughout the day. I constantly sync my Fitbit with the Fitbit app for the iPhone and I'm always keeping that data current. Back on my iMac, there's a dongle that plugs in to a USB slot in the back and through an icon on the menu bar at the top of the screen, I sync my Fitbit with the iMac, too. I can sync with either device and the information is shared with all my Fitbit enabled devices. In other words, if I sync my One with my iPhone, the website accessed with the iMac will have the same info. Obviously, the software works with iOS and Mac. One feature I really enjoy is the fact that the One will work with other fitness apps as well. My sister uses hers with Sparkpeople, but I use my with MyFitnessPal. I enter all my food and exercise info on the MFP app and it syncs automatically with the Fitbit. The reason I like the MFP app over the Fitbit app for logging food is barcode scanner MFP employs to allow you to quickly identify and log food items. It's much easier than typing - especially on a smart phone. I love the fact that the Fitbit will record all this data and it gives some useful graphs with the data it collects. It breaks down not only how many calories have been consumed and expended, but it also will give you information about the percentage of protein, carbs, and fat you consume. It will also chart and graph your weight, bmi, and body fat. After having the Fitbit One for about two weeks, I decided to spring for the Fitbit Aria wifi scale. It works seamlessly with the Fitbit software. Along with the scale, I also picked up an Oxo 11lb. Food Scale in order to more accurately weigh my servings and portions of food. The Fitbit isn't just for people looking to lose weight, it's for anybody who wants to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle and keep track of their exercise, food, calories burned, etc. The sleep feature is rather neat, but I don't know that I've found a true use for the data yet. I'm sure I'll find more uses for that later, and as time goes on, I'm going to explore the Premium features, too. So far, I love this little device and it goes with me everywhere.

You have to NOT hear it to believe it!

I bought dishwashers that tout their silent operation and found that, while they were more quiet than the unit I'd replaced, they didn't run as quietly as I'd hoped. That is just not the case with the KitchenAid KUDE70FXSS. This is the first dishwasher that I ever felt lived up to the claim of quiet operation. When the installer came into the living room to tell me he was finished with the installation of the KitchenAid he said "I bet you never even heard me turn it on". I was amazed as he walked into the kitchen, opened the door and showed me the stainless steel washing tub dripping with water. He'd tested the operation as part of the installation. I was literally 40 feet away in the living room and I never even heard the unit turn on!
First and foremost, the dishwasher is refined in it's simplistic elegance. The controls are mounted on the top of the door so they are hidden under the countertop when the dishwasher is closed. The only thing that breaks the stainless steel monolith on the front face is a very small light near the upper right hand corner of the door. At first, I questioned what it was and wondered why it was there when I learned it was a light. I wasn't sure why KitchenAid would interrupt that stainless facade with it. Now I know. It's there so you will know when the dishwasher is actually running. I'm not even kidding! When the machine is running, that light glows blue. When the unit is in the drying cycle, the light is red. Finally, when the dishes are clean and the washing/drying cycles are complete, the light is green.
To test the dishwasher, I had some dishes that I'd let wait in the sink all day. I had a pan with dried on egg and cheese from an omelet. There was a bowl with dried grits and other assorted plates, utensils, cookware, and so on. It really went against the grain to not pre-wash any of these items before loading them into the dishwasher. I'm so used to not only removing food, but also, in effect, basically cleaning the dishes before loading them into the dishwasher. However, I wanted to really test the ProScrub option on this unit.
I've read a few reviews with people that complained that the dishwasher didn't clean effectively. I have to admit, those reviews made me somewhat hesitant seeing that this dishwasher comes at a premium price. However, all those fears were quickly dispelled with this one wash. As a caveat, I will say that I read the instruction manual (an online PDF) and there were directions about how to properly load the dishwasher. If you plan to allow the dishwasher to scrub dried on food on plates and cookware, there is a specific way to load the unit to increase the efficacy of the cleaning. I can imagine that if these directions aren't followed, the results may not be as expected. That being said, I loaded the pan with the dried omelet and grit-encrusted bowl, and all the other items facing towards the back of the unit. The ProScrub jets are mounted on the back of the dishwasher and truly dirty dishes and pans need to be loaded at the back facing those jets. There are also instructions on the optimal way to load plates, bowls, etc. and I pretty much followed the suggestions with the rest of this load. I even had some cooking utensils loaded into the third tray above. I ran the unit on the Heavy Duty cycle with the ProScrub option and selected ProDry. Once I pressed start and closed the door, I waited. The blue light came on and I eventually heard the slightest noise indicating the unit was actually in operation. Given that I had selected the most aggressive cleaning cycle and option, I was completely floored that the dishwasher was actually running. The blue light is obviously a smart idea that is there to prevent somebody from opening the dishwasher door while the unit is in operation. Suffice it to say that the entire time the dishwasher ran, nobody in the house really knew it was running. Upon completion of the cycle, every single dish emerged spotless and without food particles. Another important tip I gleaned from reading the manual is that the use of rinse aid is highly recommended with this dishwasher. Again, it increases the efficiency of the unit especially with regards to drying. It provides a sheeting action that will help the KitchenAid not only with the drying cycle, but also with leaving glasses and flatware completely without spots. We had some glasses that had become rather white in appearance from years of use in the old dishwasher (which I foolishly didn't use rinse agent with). The KitchenAid did not remove that white deposited material by itself. For glasses and items that have become laden with mineral deposits over time, I ran them in the dishwasher with two Affresh dishwasher cleaner tablets. I put one in the main dispenser and one table in the bottom of the tub itself. That not only cleaned the dishwasher (not that it needed it), but also cleaned the glasses and they came out crystal clear.
So the bottom line for me with this dishwasher is this: KitchenAId has produced a VERY sleek, elegant dishwasher that will operate so silently you'll need to see an indicator light to really even know it's running. It absolutely will not intrude on your TV watching or entertaining while it's running. With operation this silent, you can run your dishwasher at any time of the day or night and never once disturb anybody in the house. As expected, this KitchenAid cleans dishes completely and effectively. I don't know that I'll be loading dirty dishes like I did with my trial. It goes against years of ingrained pre-cleaning for me. However, suffice it to say, it's nice to know that for those evenings when I just don't feel like pre-washing, I can load this dishwasher full of the dirtiest dishes and they will emerge spotless and dry. With dishes that I've already rinsed off before loading, they will emerge even more clean than I ever could have achieved by hot water and Dawn alone. If I had it to do all over again, I'd purchase this dishwasher without hesitation. I highly recommend this KitchenAid!

These are a must if you have the LG Washer/Dryer!

These pedestals are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. If you purchase them along with the washer and dryer, you will be adding an extra $500 to the purchase total. Some people may balk at this and deem it an unnecessary expenditure. I can assure you that, like the LG washer and dryer, this will be money well-spent!
The pedestals serve several useful and important purposes. First and foremost, they raise both the washer and dryer to a comfortable level that does not require bending or stooping down. This feature alone was worth the price of admission for me!
I have a relatively small laundry room and so space is at a premium for me. The fact that these pedestals also have spacious drawers in them is just icing on the cake for me! The drawers slide out very easily and don't feel cheap or flimsy at all. They easily glide out and slide shut. The drawer is divided into two equal sections and both are quite spacious. However, it would've been really nice if the largest liquid detergent containers would've been able to fit in these. That might have made the pedestals too tall and thereby affected the optimum height of the washer. My large container of Tide will fit in the drawer, but I have to lay it down on its side. I mitigated this problem by buying smaller bottles of Tide, Downy, and All that will fit in the drawers. I refill them from my larger containers that I store in the closet.
These pedestals were, in my opinion, an essential component to the LG washer and dryer. They have augmented two fantastic machines and made them even better. The pedestals afford storage space for laundry items, which is a huge plus. They also elevate the machines to facilitate easy loading and unloading of clothes. If I had it to do all over again, I'd buy the pedestals without a second thought!

What's great about it: It eliminates bending over to do laundry; storage space
What's not so great: Can't store larger containers of liquid detergent or softener

It's not just hype - this machine truly delivers!

I purchased this dryer to go along with the matching LG Cherry Red washing machine WM3070HRA. I had never owned a front loading washer before and so I didn't really know what to expect when it came to its performance. I also hadn't owned a dryer that offered steam options like this one does. I have to say that, after using both on a daily basis for over a week now, I am completely satisfied and totally impressed with their performance. This is undoubtedly the best dryer I've ever owned; it's not only aesthetically impressive, but also extremely efficient.
One reason I wanted to purchase this particular dryer is due to the Steam Sanitary feature. My wife suffers with allergies and this feature allows me to use the rack to steam sanitize items like pillows, etc. This is great for things that couldn't normally be washed. I used this feature the day I got the dryer delivered and I steam sanitized all the non-memory foam pillows in the house. Couple this with the Allergiene wash cycle on the WM3070HRA and it's a one two punch for allergens.
This LG dryer also used True Steam to help prevent wrinkles and odors during the drying cycles. I love this feature as well as Steam Fresh, which uses steam to freshen already dry clothes. Think of this as a wrinkle release, except steam fresh works more effectively and quickly. I never owned a dryer that had a steam option before. To be honest, I was somewhat skeptical of the many cycles and features of both the LG washer and dryer. I thought it sounded great to say I have a washer with 12 cycles and a dryer with several steam options, but I doubted if I'd ever use all of them. I can tell you that I've used just about every cycle on both machines. None of them are gratuitous and placed on the machine just for the sake of bragging rights. They all serve a purpose and they all work very well to that end.
My old dryer that this LG replaced had a moisture sensor that was supposed to monitor the degree of moisture in the clothes and adjust the drying time accordingly. I don't know that it ever worked. I was, out of habit, skeptical about this feature on the dryer. I can tell you than any doubts or skepticisms I had quickly dissipated after my first use. The Sensor Dry feature on this LG actually works. Now there is a caveat I will discuss in a moment regarding this, but suffice it to say that I am impressed with the accuracy of the Sensor Dry. After I washed the first load of clothes in the LG washer, I put them into the dryer and set the cycle for regular cotton. After a few seconds, the time showed up on the screen and stated that 40 minutes remained in the drying cycle. I thought "Yeah, right!" I was certainly impressed when I pulled out completely dry, fresh, clean smelling clothes after that 40 minute cycle completed. I'm not surprised that the clothes were warm, clean and fresh. I fully expected them or at least some of them to be damp still. That just wasn't the case. Every item of clothing was dry. This was a mixed load, too. I had jeans, towels, socks, and t-shirts in this load. It all came out dry though and in record time. I have never washed and dried laundry as quickly as I have with these two machines! Part of this is undoubtedly due to the spin cycle on the washer as clothes come out of the washing machine with as little water/moisture as possible. The other reason was due to the function of the Sensor Dry units. Now for that caveat. It is important that you DO NOT USE DRYER SHEETS in your dryer. It is in the product manual and there really should be a warning sticker on the dryer. However, dryer sheets can coat the drum of the dryer with a film that will impede and hinder the efficacy of the Sensor Dry modules. With the perfectly timed and effortless dispensing of fabric softener through the washing machine, this really isn't a problem. WIth regards to static, there is a static feature on the dryer that will prevent build up of static cling on clothes, so both features of fabric softener sheets can be accomplished quite easily through alternative methods. Believe me, it took some getting used to. I've used dryer sheets my entire life so it was counterintuitive to not place a sheet in the dryer. However, after over a week's worth of use on a daily basis, I can say that I do not need the dryer sheets. My clothes are every bit as soft and without static cling.
I'm sure there are features and items I'm missing from this review as I've pretty much used just about everything on this dryer. Suffice it to say that if I had it to do all over again - I'd buy this dryer again in a heartbeat. It's one purchase that I don't regret at all. This LG dryer, like the washer, is incredibly well-made. It feels sturdy and stable - solid. It operates and is almost whisper quiet. I can oftentimes forget I'm drying clothes until I hear the end-chime song. When the dryer is in operation, it is 100% stable and does not vibrate in the slightest. This is one very well-made, perfectly designed piece of equipment that actually has and will save hours in the mundane chore of laundry. It's actually a pleasure to do the laundry now, and up until a few weeks ago, my wife and I would argue about who's turn it was!

Get ready to love doing laundry - REALLY!

Ok, so I didn't think I'd be so thrilled that I'd actually be writing a review for a washer, but, nonetheless, here it is! This is the first front load washer I've owned and I can say that I will never go back to a top load again. The short list consisted of this washer and a Samsung. The Samsung I was looking at had PowerFoam as a feature, but was a little over $700 more than the LG. To be fair, that washer was a 4.5 cu. ft. size as compared to the 3.7 cu. ft. size for the LG. I'm sure the Samsung washer would have been a great washer; I liked the idea of PowerFoam. However, I'm a family of three and so the 4.5 cu. ft. load capacity wasn't really something we needed. 3.7 is more than large enough for my family's needs. Also, as cool as PowerFoam sounded, I liked the idea of the Allergiene cycle that uses steam to remove 95% of common household allergens. My wife really suffers with her allergies and I really liked the fact that this wash cycle could help mitigate some of her suffering. The SpeedWash, TurboWash and ColdWash features were also big selling points. Couple that with the Direct Drive motor (as opposed to pulleys) for the movement of the drum and I was satisfied that I was getting a washing machine that would more than satisfy my needs. So in considering this machine and the Samsung, I very quickly realized that while both machines were quite good, I would be almost able to purchase both the LG washer and dryer for the price of just the one Samsung washer. As a side note, the smaller capacity Samsung washer (the one that would be more comparable to the LG I purchased) did NOT come with the PowerFoam option, so in a more apples to apples comparison, I feel the LG washer outshines it's similarly equipped/sized Samsung competitor.
With regards to performance, this machine is the best I've ever owned. I had high expectations, but I was also somewhat skeptical as to what a front load washer would really be like. I was sure it would wash clothes and that it would do a good job, but would it really be a noticeable improvement over my old top loader? YES! If you've been on the fence, time to move. I do not regret this purchase at all.
I've had the LG for about a week now and I've used it daily. First, the machine is extremely quiet during operation. Our laundry room is located in an open nook just off of the kitchen. There is no door to close to dampen the noise. Prior to this, we'd always have to adjust the TV volume accordingly when washing clothes. The only real intrusion I've noticed is during the initiation of the spin cycle. During the actual washing cycle, I don't even hear the machine. It doesn't intrude in conversation or TV viewing. It's amazingly quiet. Don't get me wrong, you can hear it if you choose to attend to the noise, but it becomes so innocuous in the background that it's easy to forget the machine is even running. Of course, once you hear it's end of cycle signal, you remember you had clothes running! Once the washer is spinning, it returns to very quiet operation, too. I just notice the difference when it moves from the wash cycle to the spin. And that's really if I'm even listening for it.
Since I'm speaking of the spin cycle, this washer does not walk all across the laundry room floor either. It's very stable and has not even vibrated the floor, house, windows, etc. even once - not even a hint of vibration. Given that front load washers can spin at some pretty impressive speeds, I was surprised by this. The TrueBalance system on this machine is definitely impressive and effective!
With regards to performance, I was thrilled at the difference between washing in the top loader and this LG. This LG replaced a Maytag that, at the time of purchase, was a top of the line washer. I nicknamed the Maytag the Washing Dead because it refused to die. It was 16 years old and still going strong. It was undoubtedly a relic. The agitator was a pain when it came to washing comforters. I can't begin to count the times that a small load would get out of balance and the machine would just stop until I manually balanced the load. Sometimes it would get out of balance and quit again within 5 minutes. This was annoying, but if I was home it wasn't a big deal. This would be a problem when I'd set clothes to wash when we were leaving. It was never a good feeling to come home only to find that the machine hadn't finished the job. Say goodbye to that problem. This machine completes the job every time.
After several loads of clothes, I can say that my clothes feel cleaner. I could tell the difference with the first load of clothes I washed. However, because I didn't want to chalk it up just being excited about a new appliance, I waited several days to make a judgment. I have no doubt that our clothes are cleaner with this machine than they have ever been. Things just "feel" cleaner and on a deeper level, too. Another plus is that my clothes are not being beaten up by the agitator any longer. That means that clothes will look newer for a longer period of time. A front loader is just going to prolong the life of any garments washed in it. Another thing that amazed me about this washer was how dry clothes came out of the washer. I'm used to jeans dripping wet coming out of the old Maytag. That's a thing of the past. This machine spins as much water out of these clothes as possible and with such effectiveness that it reduces the amount of time (and therefore energy) needed to dry the clothes. That's a win-win scenario in my book!
There are a multitude of programs and cycles available in this washer and I don't believe any of them are gratuitous. In a little over one week, I've found that I've used a great deal of them. About the only consideration I gave with my other washer was hot, warm or cold and then moving the slider to correct position for the size load of clothes I was washing. That's about it. With this machine, I can wash small loads or bulky loads. I washed two full sized comforters at the same time and still had room to spare. I've loved the ColdWash cycle and have found it to be just as effective as the warm wash cycle. I've used the Allergiene cycle and my wife commented that her sheets, pillowcases, and comforter never felt or smelled better. While there are a myriad of options available for washing, I have not found any to be gimmicky or unnecessary. I can see a use for all and have already used most.
I purchased the matching pedestal to go with this unit and I highly recommend it. It brings the machine to eye level and eliminates stooping down to load or unload the machine.
All in all, I'd buy this machine over again in a heartbeat! It's been one of the best appliance purchases I've made in years! The dryer that goes with this washer is also amazing and I have reviewed that as well. My wife and I both love the Wild Cherry color. It sounds awkward to refer to such a mundane appliance as sexy, but nonetheless the red is just that. It pops nicely against our mocha paint in the laundry/kitchen area. So not only is this unit visually stunning (again - hard to believe I'm talking about a washing machine and not an exotic car with such jargon!), but also incredibly efficient and effective. While the options are numerous, a quick read of the instructions manual or PDF online will have you up and running in no time. The automatic dispensing of HE detergent (liquid or powder, but I recommend liquid), fabric softener, pre-wash, and bleach takes all the guess work out of cleaning your clothes. I've found the pre-wash to be very effective at helping clean some of my red clay soiled jeans. I also got some dark cherry juice from cherries on a white t-shirt out without a trace. I didn't get a stain on the shirt intentionally, but I figured this would be a good litmus test for how efficaciously the washer cleaned clothes. It worked like a champ!
When they first released appliances other than TVs, I was skeptical of Samsung and LG. I once remarked, I don't want my refrigerator made by people who specialize in TVs. I can honestly say, I have been proven wrong. I would have no qualms buying a refrigerator or washer from either company. The highest compliment I can give LG is that they completely exceeded every expectation I had for this machine. Nothing feels cheap at all about this machine. It is truly a fantastic washer and, for the first time ever, everybody in the house wants to do the laundry!
What's great about it: Effective, efficient, superior cleaning, cherry looks amazing!
What's not so great: nothing I can think of!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Much better than I expected!

I have been a long time Mac user and have come to enjoy the simplicity of running a Mac eco-system in my house. Everything is connected, everything is Apple and everything just works. I was rather skeptical of the Logitech camera with regards to ease of use and ease installation. Let me suffice it to say this HD camera was much better than I expected in both regards!
WIth regards to ease of installation/set up, I don't see how it could've been any easier. The included software installation disc (which works for both Mac and Windows) installed in less than 3 minutes. After that and a few mouse clicks, I plugged the camera into the USB port on the back of my iMac and I was up and running. All in total, I'd say I had this camera operating in around 5 minutes. One of the first things the Logitech software did was check for downloads. The updater found one such update and it downloaded in less than 5 minutes. The installation was very straightforward and, to be honest, didn't require looking at the instruction manual. I did it simply by inserting the disc into my iMac and then following the on-screen prompts.
With regards to ease of operation, the camera was a snap! The picture capture was VERY similar to Photo Booth on my iMac. Although there weren't any funny effects to add to my photos, it did allow me to instantly start snapping pictures and capturing video. It was also extremely easy to toggle between resolutions. I found 720p to be excellent on my large iMac. The pictures were very clear as was the video. Also, once a picture or video is captured, icons for sharing via email, twitter, Facebook and YouTube appear in a side menu on the right. I emailed a video very quickly and, although it was compressed, the quality as I played it back on my iPhone and iMac was super. It's at least every bit as good as the iSight camera on my iMac. However, I found the quality of this camera edged the iSight out with regards to clarity and detail - especially with close proximity to the camera lens. For instance, when I placed my fingers extremely close to the Logitech camera lens, I could clearly make out the ridges which form the swirls of my finger print. However, this detail was not nearly as clear with the same distance on my iSight camera. Another nice detail about the Logitech is that is contains an auto-focus. So, once I pulled my hand back from in front of the lens, the camera re-focused on me seated in my chair in front of the computer. The camera is easy to maneuver, position and swivel and that's a plus over the iSight camera in that, if I want to change the camera angle when using my iMac, I have to turn the entire computer around. With this camera, its quite easy to maneuver around. The microphone in the camera also did a very good job at picking up sound. In this area, I'd also say the Logitech edged past the iSight camera. The microphone was able to pick up several soft sounds clearly as well as conversation.
I used the Logitech in place of my iSight on a Skype call and, happily, it was very easy to use in place of the iSight. The quality of the call was better due to the improved microphone and picture quality. I was able to set the Logitech to a widescreen mode which is something I can't do with the iSight. It was a pleasure to use this camera in place of the iSight on my Skype calls!
This webcam is great for somebody who doesn't already have a built in camera in their laptop or desktop. However, its portability and compatibility with both Mac and Windows makes it great to take from home to office or vice versa. It's also very easy to upload pictures and video to the various social networking websites as well as email.
In summary, I found this camera to be far better than I expected and am happy to have found it exceeded my expectations in almost every way!
What's great about it: image quality, portability, compatibility, ease of operation, ease of installation
What's not so great: none that I can think of
