I upgraded my entire 5.1 setup to the Pro1000's (not counting the Pro1000 sub I already had) and also purchased a Denon 3313 and felt like I was just missing "mids" and fullness. In some instances, I could still pick out certain sounds coming from the L & R as opposed to having the sound be blended to where you can't hear where it's coming from. With these BP-8020ST's, that is not the case.
Having remembered something I read once about keeping your speakers w/in the same wattage range (i.e. don't have 100 watt surrounds and 300 watt fronts), After some listening of the Studio Monitor 55's and the BP-8040ST's since they were in the listening showroom, I was quite pleased with the 8040's but felt they'd overpower the rest of my setup AND I didn't need that much subwoofer. I listened to the BP-8020ST's outside of the listening rooms and although they didn't sound as great as the 8040's, they also weren't IN the listening room which would have made a big difference.
After getting these home and putting them through the calibration, the fullness in sound AND balance that I have with my now 7.1 setup is something. I'm very pleased with the mid end they provide and compliments my Pro1000 sub very nicely.
p.s. If your receiver has a primary and aux subwoofer RCA output and you already have a sub like I do, you don't have to run the RCA to one of the towers BUT, you will have to have the speaker outlet plugged in to get midrange. OR you could always run a Y-splitter.
With a 5-1/4" midrange, 5-1/4" planar low-frequency woofer and 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter cone, this Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 1000 Black bookshelf speaker provides immersive cinema sound in a small package.

Having decided to upgrade my embarrassingly old bookshelf setup completely with 4 of these, a matching center, and a new receiver, I went with the Pro1000's since I already had a Pro1000 sub, and the fact that reviews were so excellent. After getting my new and updated 5.1 setup calibrated sound quality was a tad blah. Looking back at the EQ setup after calibration, my Denon 3313 decided to set the fronts at 100hz and the center at 110. After doing a bit of research on AVR forums, as well as looking at the definitive website that these are capable of much lower frequencies, I proceeded to put them at a comfortable 80hz, and the center at 100hz. The room lit up at this point.... BIG difference... but wait, there's more...
After doing some single scene tests from Avengers(beginning where Loki comes in) and the Elephant battle scene from LOTR (3rd disc), I realized that after removing my subwoofer from the equation, things sounded a bit dull. Like I was still missing some of the mid's and wasn't getting the punch I wanted.
At this point I did what I didn't want to do, upgraded to tower speakers(BP-8020ST), and kept the 4 Pro1000's for sides & rears.
These Definitive Technology ProMount 90 Black articulating wall mount brackets allow you to adjust the position of your speaker for optimal placement in your home entertainment area. The sturdy design holds a speaker weighing up to 10 lbs.

I'm using these to mount the Definitive Pro1000's and although the mount is an all metal design (minus the ball) you REALLY have to tighten down on the allen screw to feel as if the speaker won't move. Due to the design of my house, my rears had to be mounted up at the ceiling and had to flip the mounts upside down to achieve a slightly greater than 45* mounting position. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase but wish the mounting system was designed differently.

Originally looked at the Klipsch Sub-12, but due to backorders and the poor setup at the store (not in dedicated theater room) I wasn't all that impressed and wasn't willing to buy and return. If you're not concerned about size like I was, then the Klipsch may be for you. I went down to a local Magnolia Store that readily carries Def Tech and after hearing the ProSub 1000, was impressed with the sound. It's not a Super Cube, but satisfies my current needs and produces low, clear and deep bass. Don't just read wattage because BOTH the Klipsch Sub-12 and Def Tech Prosub 1000 are rated the same 300 RMS. Although it's not listed in the description or specs, this sub has a forward firing 10, and a second downfiring 10 radiator. I've tested this sub on Lord of the Rings(III) w/ the battle scene that has the massive elephants, Top Gun, BadBoys II, each and every time impressed by what this sub is willing to pick up and how it rumbles. Enjoy
What's great about it: Small, powerful, clear and clean bass. Begs for more.
What's not so great: At the $500 price pt. There are other subs worth trying, bur hard to find. (Veloydyne, SVS, HSU Research)
