Although it failed to connect with a mass audience during its theatrical run, Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love did find a small loyal audience. This disc will please that core constituency and probably win the film new fans as well. The film itself is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. By all accounts Anderson was very hands-on during the transfer process and the result is startling. The eye-popping colors and precise framings are a joy to behold, even on the small screen. Videophiles are encouraged to follow Anderson's instructions in the liner notes for best results. As with all of Anderson's films, Punch-Drunk Love has a precise and controlled sound mix. Again, this has been remixed in order to accommodate the small screen. The 5.1, Dolby Surround, and DTS Stereo tracks all capture the intricate mélange of noises and music and sound that comprise the soundtrack. Because this is a superbit disc, all available memory has been employed to produce the best possible picture and sound. They have succeeded on all accounts. The extras include an original short film called Blossoms & Blood that is more or less a 12-minute version of the film using artwork not seen in the film, and deleted scenes and alternate takes. Trailers, deleted scenes, and a very funny fake advertisement starring Philip Seymour Hoffman for his character's mattress store round out this excellent Colubia/TriStar release. Four films into his career Paul Thomas Anderson has made nothing but original, interesting films, and he has produced superb DVD releases for each of them.

Not what I'd expect from Adam Sandler

The movie plot is strange and at some points confusing, but what seems most off is that Adam Sandler is typically funny and upbeat, but he plays a disturbed character and it seems largely unfitting for his personality.
What's great about it: Sandler stays in character
What's not so great: Does not fit with Sandler's traits
Greatest movie of all time. Strangely has educational moments, but is by far the funniest movie I have ever seen in my life. Adam Sandler at his best!!
What's great about it: hilarious, so many memorable scenes and quotable lines
What's not so great: deleted scenes should have been left in the movie!!
